Is life is strange a video game, or an interactive story?

wiki says that it's a video game, not I'm not sure of it. I haven't watched or played it so I can't really judge it

well it is a game WITH an interactive story, meaning that there are choices in the game that will change how certain parts of the game play out. if you're trying to figure out if it's an actual game game or a "game" like Everyone's Gone To the Rapture or Gone Home, then I can assure you it is definitely a game game. 

 

to reference Total Biscuits definition of a game, Life is Strange has a challenge or some adversity that that player must overcome and it has a failure state, meaning progress is halted due to the mistake of the player.

Its as much of a game as anything else, calling them otherwise is disrespectful the entire dev team that worked to create it. People say the same thing about telltale games even though you fight at points and can die just like in other *games*.

I've played Episode 1 and it seems like a game. It isn't like a visual novel where you just read text and make choices, you can rewind time and interact with objects in the environment. There is just enough interactivity and gameplay for it to be a game.

okay thanks. I asked that question because I've seen people call games similar to telltale games an interactive story, not to be disrespectful.

It's a game kind of similar to the Tell Tale games. But has a better story than some of those games.

The one thing I've learned from studying games in university: A game is what you define it to be. Some consider LiS a game, others an interactive fiction. It's honestly pointless to convince people it's one or the other because it has elements of both.
