Toominator 916 Posted January 13, 2016 I had someone tell me that they don't understand how people can play video games all the time, and that they just get fat and lazy and don't do anything with their lives. I can't stand when people do that. I'm not going to speak for everyone here, but video games are an escape for me. The real world sucks sometimes, so after working all day, I go home and play video games. So what? Yeah, I'm not skinny and I can be pretty lazy sometimes, but during my work day, I feel like I work hard, and I work nonstop (I'm a teacher btw). It's one thing to not be interested in video games and have no desire to play them, but don't talk down about others in a passive-aggressive way because they happen to enjoy them. What are your thoughts on this? Have you met people like this? What is your reaction? There's a lot more I have to say about this, but I have neither the time nor the energy. 14 KHLegendIII, EchoFox23*, Master Eraqus and 11 others reacted to this
2 quid is good 2,209 Posted January 13, 2016 Dude, big up respect to you, you're a teacher and you still find the time to dedicate so much to the site? I will never take you for granted again! As for this... It's just annoyingly funny to me. I just can't help but laugh when people say stuff like that, it just sounds so ridiculous to me. But if I'm already feeling a little salty then I just get mad. People wouldn't treat you this way if every day after work you watched a film or listen to music instead! Games are just another form of entertainment, they're not some brainwashing thing that'll steal your darlings. 1 Toominator reacted to this
Aqua7KH 5,395 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Cudos for you man. Being a KH13 teacher omg that's so awesome. Represent. And I know exactly how you feel. It utterly pisses me off when people act like that. I'm around people like that all the time and it pisses me off. Video games are a work of art, and it brings people together. Video games are an escape for me too. The world firetrucking sucks and especially now that I turned 18 months ago life's hard. But I always have video games to calm me down and make me happy. Everyone else who acts like gamers have no lives are just ignorant judgemental baggots who wallow in their sad dull existence. All those people do is just wake up go to work and go to sleep to start it all again the next day. They are truly the ones who don't have lives. Us gamers have lives. We have three lives ffs. That's how it is with Disney for me. I go to Walt Disney World as an escape route from society and all the hell it brings. I hear it from extended family on how they don't get how my family and I like it so much. We call them d'git's. It's short for "doesn't get it". Those people don't know and choose to not know better. The 13th Kenpachi 4,279 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Bob:"Omg loser all you do is play video games and sit in your room all day" Bob will then proceed to sit on the sofa and watch TV for long periods of time by himself. Bob is an accurate representation of some people in society. RikuFangirl2008 1,368 Posted January 13, 2016 A KH13 News Team Leader and a TEACHER?! I salute you man! But yeah of what you said about video games, I couldn't agree more. So far, it's my mom that would tell me that I space out from socializing with others, watching different types of movies, etc. I just bring my 3DS with me and I take naps when I'm at my aunt's house (for example). Not much was going on, and plus some of these movies my mom watch, I'm not interested in. And as a college student (soon a graduate), I don't go out that much. Only to my classes, places that I build courage to drive myself down there, and places that are not far from my house. People on the other hand, not yet so far. I'm not all that sociable, but I pick and choose of who I want talk to. I don't talk to everyone, because you have no idea of the type of person they are. And I'm shy. There are also topics that I'm not comfortable discussing and some folks talks about that stuff. 1 Toominator reacted to this

Veemon 1,540 Posted January 14, 2016 Yes, I am a teacher by day and a huge Kingdom Hearts nerd by night It's hard, but I pretty much live a double life lolYes, exactly what I'm going through! You get it. And it's even worse since I go on here every day too. My brother complains that I go on here too much, and then when I play videogames, depending if it's an RPG that he wants me to play, he will complain if I am playing something specifically. Frankly, I don't get as many complaints about my gaming habits, and strange enough I'm not overweight like those kinds of people stereotype gamers of being, but all I can say is that, yeah, gaming is like a completely separate world that gives you that opportunity to stop thinking so realistically and gets you focused on simpler things. The things that you want (maybe). I'd laugh if someone said that gamers are all obese and lazy, 'cuz then they would have to see me, and get proven wrong. I guess I wouldn't want to do it in a rude way, though they did start it. Tell ya what: I'm gonna just say that nobody should really be thinking that about us anymore. They made Wii Fit for that purpose. Have fun while exercising AND feel rewarded? That sounds very Game-like, but it's also very good for your body!Rock on! 1 Toominator reacted to this
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted January 14, 2016 Eh, people who don't know about video games often make these comments because they don't know what they're missing out on! Video games aren't just an escape, they are also a valuable tool for learning life lessons! Many video games have had amazing stories that have touched the hearts of gamers and changed their lives for the better! It's like with the Kingdom Hearts series! Lots of people have met countless others and forged lifelong friendships because of these video games! Video games do more than just entertain us! They bring people together! (Or in some cases, tear them apart, such as is the case when playing Smash Bros! ) But yeah, people who diss gamers either don't know poop about games, or they just hate the fact that gamers enjoy what they play! Ya know what they say! Haters gonna hate! 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
OmegaForte 1,674 Posted January 14, 2016 I'd just tell them "how is it any different than someone sitting on the couch watching sports all day?" People these days want you to do the same shit they do, and they see something different? Oh no, its apparently bad, [insert dissing here]. They can firetruck off for all I care. My hobby isn't hurting them. 2 Mystics Apprentice and Exiblade7 reacted to this
Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted January 14, 2016 I could only see video games being a problem if they interfere with your life in an unhealthy way, such as, say, interfering with work and relationships. If they are just a hobby, though, I truly don't see the problem with it. It's hardly different from watching TV, if anything more educational. : D Like Omega mentioned above, a lot of people want others to conform to their way and don't want them to be different. I love video games and I don't see anything wrong with playing them.
