Exiblade7 1,917 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) I mean seriously, why play a game most mostly for its graphics when it's really the gameplay and the story(sometimes) make the game. I get this from mostly COD fans though, saying that a certain game is the best game ever because of the graphics are the "best" Edited January 12, 2016 by Luke Fon Fabre 1 The Transcendent Key reacted to this
Master Eraqus 1,340 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) I get this from mostly COD fans though, saying that a certain game is the best game ever because of the graphics are the "best" Yeah. Usually, those people who say that graphics are what make a good game are stupid kids who play COD a lot and think they're cool just by saying that realistic graphics are what make a good game and any less is for kids (which is pretty ironic in this case). Honestly, I don't give a crap on how realistic the graphics of a game look. When it comes to graphics, I just want them to look good and appealing cause there are games with terrible graphics that just make things look ugly but not unrealistic graphics. I mean just look at Minecraft. Edited January 12, 2016 by Master Eraqus 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
GotMilk5101520 573 Posted January 12, 2016 If you ask me, there are 3 things that are important to games. 1 is Gameplay of course. 2 is Story (Unless it's a sports and/or racing game) And 3 is Graphics. 4 venxas24, littleTSUBAME, Exiblade7 and 1 other reacted to this
Moochieh32 676 Posted January 12, 2016 Graphics is icing on the cake to me. A game with crisp clear, detailed and smooth graphics does pack a punch, but really the gameplay is what matters most. 2 WakingDawn96 and Exiblade7 reacted to this

Saber Lily 1,543 Posted January 12, 2016 I like decent graphics. But all because CoD looks pretty, doesn't mean it's the best. Seriously... Life is Strange is not hyperealistic and has lipsync issues but it is far better than anything CoD pumps out year after year. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
WakingDawn96 1,166 Posted January 12, 2016 It's not really important to have great graphics, cause if you look back at older games that are considered classics you can tell that not all are of good quality graphics anymore, but people still love those games. And new games that have a not so great graphic design can still be loved by many people. Honestly, it's not about the graphics at all, but they can add to the element of experiencing the game's world. But what really matters is mostly gameplay, as Smash 4 doesn't have a story and it is one of the best games out there. But at the same time, there are multiple games with a good story that make the story matter as well, like the Kingdom Hearts series. Graphics is mainly the third concern when it comes to a game, and I think even Nintendo realizes this with their handhelds! 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
Awesome Sauce 634 Posted January 12, 2016 Meh, Graphics can really add onto the appeal of a game IMO, And there are some games that really benefit from them. I consider them a bonus, though my brother on the other hand... Ugh. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
Isamu Kuno 2,512 Posted January 12, 2016 I hate to say it but I can't play any game with lower than PS2-era graphics. sprites just don't do it for me unless its a series I've been with for a while like Pokemon or Digimon.Story actually take president over gameplay because if there's no story I'm just not motivated to move forward . 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this

Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted January 12, 2016 sometimes you may want to play a game for the experience the graphics can create. i believe there's at least two kinds of people who play games for graphics. people who think good graphics make a good game and play based only on that, and people who see games with a unique graphic style and are interested in seeing the experience those graphics can offer. Minecraft is a good example, i'd say. the graphics style is so different from what we'd usually see in high budget, triple A releases that it might pique someone's interest to see what it's about. Another game that actually got me interested, due to the graphics was the game "Master Reboot." It had an interesting look to it that made me want to check it out. The environments were made more appealing due to the graphical style of the game. i feel there's some logic in playing a game just for the graphics, but as you play the game i would imagine other aspects of the game will hold your interest. personally i'd be more willing to play a game with some kind of stylized graphics, as opposed to realistic ones. Realistic graphics are look the same because, let's face it, they're all based off of reality and all share similarities. With stylized graphics you have a wide variety of looks and art styles to get immersed in. Kingdom Hearts, Okami, Patapon, Psychonauts and Persona 5 for example have unique graphic styles that offer fresh and interesting visuals. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
venxas24 544 Posted January 12, 2016 Graphics should be an afterthought after story. Good graphics are a matter of opinion as well. My favorite game graphically is Super Mario Sunshine even though there are game even in the series that have "better" graphics but graphical enjoyment is based off of several things other than being realistic. The N64 is my favorite system overall graphically because I enjoyed the polygons for whatever reason Another thing is that people can play games just for graphics if they want to. I play Skyrim purely for the graphics because I couldn't care less about the quests and leveling up my abilities as long as I get to look at something cool. That being said I don't play skyrim a lot. So graphics can be a reason to play a game but it isn't as entertaining for me as gameplay and story. 2 atheist123 and Exiblade7 reacted to this
atheist123 583 Posted January 12, 2016 Exploration-based games like open-world RPGs benefit from awesome graphics. Games like Witcher 3 and Skyrim are much more immersive on PC with higher quality graphics. For games like Kingdom Hearts where there is very little exploration, it doesn't matter so much. Games like COD also do not benefit much from good graphics. High framerates and resolutions are more important. With low resolutions it is harder to see enemies and low framerates make the game feel sluggish.
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Honestly, I couldn't care less about graphics! I mean sure, they may make the game look prettier, but in the end, it's the gameplay and story that earns my attention! I've played games like Final Fantasies I, III and IV, and I've also played Chrono Trigger, and they aren't graphically groundbreaking games! But their stories and gameplay are so entertaining that I really don't mind the graphics! Plus, I like retro looking pixel characters! Obviously, today's games are visually stunning, and while some of them are superficial, many of them offer amazing stories and gameplay to go along with their good looks, such as The Last Of Us, the Uncharted series, the Assassin's Creed series, the Kingdom Hearts series, and many more! Sure, I like graphics, but they aren't what makes a game epic! But hey, that's just my humble opinion! People play Call of Duty for the gameplay tbh.
mag77 405 Posted January 13, 2016 To be honest, there are some games I won't even play if they don't look graphicly pleasing to me. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of old games I play that do not have great graphics, but sometimes if characters look too weird or the colors are too dull (or really neon bright), then I won't play them. In fact, I really like cartoon/anime characters in fantasy or sci-fi worlds; I'm not interested in games where characters look too realistic (it takes me out of the experience). Also, I think we can all agree that if the graphics get really glitchy that it can most likely ruin the whole game. However, despite what I said above, I do agree that graphics aren't the most important thing. In rpgs, the story and characters are the most important, followed by gameplay, then music, and then finally the graphics. For others (like sidescrollers, puzzle games, and adventure games) its gameplay, then music, then characters, and then finally graphics (I usually don't care for the story in these games) But this is all my opinion, so its totally fine if you disagree. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
