Lulcielid 159 Posted January 4, 2016 I mean, no DISNEY & SQUARE-ENIX worlds, characters or other IPs own by them. By original content i mean, Princess of Hearts, Light & Darkness, Heartless, Nobodies, Keyblades, World Travelling, Sora, Rikku, Kairi, [insert another KH original character], etc. Because after KH1, DISNEY & SQUARE-ENIX characters and worlds has been having very little impact on the lore and universe of the franchise. What do you think about the franchise taking this route ? I´m totally on board. 2 FerroAxel7 and irinasi reacted to this

True, though i think we should admit that the series has been using very poorly both Square and Disney IPs that dropping them wouldn´t make too much difference. Endless Thundaga 533 Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) Then Sora wouldn't be Sora anymore. You do realize he was heavily inspired by Mickey right? I'd say Disney has a more impact on the story, while Square Enix characters have very little impact, because it would be a very violent game. The series wouldn't be as popular as it is now without Disney and Square Enix. Plus, who would the Seven Princesses be then? Seven school girls? BlankShell 638 Posted January 4, 2016 I could see it working, but it would lose a lot of appeal for me.

Green Sparrow 795 Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) "Hey, you know your favorite game? What if we cut 95% of the stuff that appeals to you? Would you still play it?" :PBut honestly, no, and I think it would lose the majority of its audience. If you take out the Disney and Square content, then you're just left with a generic JRPG about friendship (No offense to anyone who likes that stuff). You're right that the cameos don't have much impact, but they get a pass for it. KH doesn't need to explain who Cloud is, because hopefully you'll have played/heard of FFVII. We don't need to know Aladdin's motivations, because we've seen the movie. Take these culturally embedded characters away, and you have a very heartless game. Edited January 4, 2016 by James Lutz

Enix 995 Posted January 4, 2016 Honestly, if you take Square Enix and Disney from Kingdom Hearts, it will a forgotten RPG that NO ONE will give a care about. Just like Shining Force.
Isamu Kuno 2,512 Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) If that where to happen, KH would end at KH3 for me. Besides, you can't remove Disney from KH, Disney owns KH, therefore all original properties created for it are in fact Disney properties. So even if you dropped the worlds and characters from the movies and just focused on worlds like Radiant Garden and characters like Sora, it's still be all Disney. What they need to do is make the Disney worlds relevant again and maybe expand into other Square properties (Dragon Quest in KH anyone?) Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted January 4, 2016 i feel like the Disney and Square material help to give KH a unique feel, with how it incorporates those properties into its story. KH1 did a great job of making the Disney elements relevant to the story and KH2 helped to get the FF characters more involved with the Hollow Bastion subplot. I think being able to work both Disney and Square into an original story is an accomplishment that the KH series should try more often. Right now the Disney worlds feel like they're there because it's to be expected. The whole idea behind KH was "It's Disney meets Final Fantasy" and now that doesn't ring as true. so in short, i feel like Disney and Square should be equally relevant to the KH series. Lulcielid 159 Posted January 4, 2016 One of the reasons i feel that they should drop DISNEY & SQUARE-Enix stuff is because as a Cross-Over (what KH is) is (am i hate to admit it) a big wasted potential.
FerroAxel7 237 Posted January 4, 2016 I wouldn't mind seeing that. It would appeal to a more mature audience.

Aile 273 Posted January 4, 2016 Then it wouldnt be Kingdom Hearts anymore. I mainly play KH because of the Disney stuff. That is what makes these games special to me.
Hearts Creed 142 Posted January 4, 2016 (edited) Definitely not droppping them. It's true that a fair amount of the worlds have little to give to the story, bit I'm hoping that'll be fixed in KH3. Instead of relying on the original stories from the Disney worlds, they could use the worlds to help expand the story with original plots, much like what Sanfransokyo will supposedly be doing in KH3 with its own original plot. I feel like more worlds with that kind of concept will be a breath of fresh air and a nice way to make most, if not every world relevant in some way. As for the Square Enix properties, these are fine the way they are. Edited January 4, 2016 by Hearts Creed

You can't have Kingdom Hearts without Disney and Square. And besides, I think I remember an interview where Nomura said that they would try to give the Disney worlds more connection to the game's plot. KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted January 4, 2016 Quite simple, you have no KH. Both make up the whole series. You can't have one or the other or none.
VisitJoan 2,713 Posted January 4, 2016 I definitely feel that they need to be incorporated more into the story, but taking them out all together is not a good idea. They've done well with merging it into the original story, but the worlds themselves need more work.
