Exiblade7 1,917 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) with the announcement that some PS2 games are backwards compatible with the ps4, I really hope that the PS4 gets backwards compatible with PS3 games because I'll sell my ps3 for a ps4 if that happends(yes, I'm that despite), but sadly, I don't think that's likely now. Minato arisato 253 Posted December 22, 2015 Eventually but they think playstation now will do fine which won't, that sort of system isn't really good on a ps4. Ps3 games maybe next year, or 2017. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
Komali 594 Posted December 22, 2015 As far as I know it isn't possible due to the different hardware architecture of the PS3.

Gamerazor247 877 Posted December 22, 2015 Pffft, WHAT, lol, no no no, you have to wait until the PlayStation 5 (nexus) releases so you can play PS3 games, because THAT will be backwards compatible. If you don't get where i'm going with this, well...
Minato arisato 253 Posted December 22, 2015 can't they work their way around that? Probably can but maybe they don't want to as ps2 thing is a experiment to see if people will be interested in playing older games on a new system 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this

MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted December 22, 2015 Either they can just make the current digital PS3 games on the PlayStation Store compatibile with the PS4 or just work on PlayStation Now. Physically, I don't think it will happen. Though don't count on Kingdom Hearts being available. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this

Hope I'm wrong though. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this

KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted December 22, 2015 how come? They have been remaking PS2 games (or are planning to) for the PS4. That's the closest to backwards compatibility we'll get. If the PS4 would be backwards compatible with the PS3, they would have said, or made a model to do so already.

Yeah but what's the point many have already said playstation now isn't very great and most have complained to sony about it, especially how sony doesn't have the greatest online service compared to Xbox. Sony has games yet refuses to do so, they assume they won already so let's not try to please the customer base. Well, xbone has it Probably like one of the only things Microsoft has done right at the moment, though rather sony do it because they have more games. Sorry but all the Xbone gets is mutiplatform games, even then it's lacking. 1 2 quid is good reacted to this

By then, they would have started to shift focus to planning and designing the PS5.
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) I thought they just announced PS2 emulation, isn't that different from backwards compatibility? BC is like literally putting the disk into the PS4 and having it work and play fine with no problems. Emulation is just basically proof you can have the game work on whatever system you're using, usually for the sake of digital releases. Did they just announce that they could be backwards compitable with PS2 disks? if that's the case, then I really hope that the ps2 games that are available now on the ps4 sell well because this will basically decide how early or how late I get the ps4. I respect your opinion, but the wii is backwards compatible to gamecube games so I don't see the problem with that, exspecally since everybody's moving to the next gen console (the ps4) Um, dude he was just making a joke, he wasn't forming an opinion. He's joking that since they are doing this with PS2 games and not PS3 (seemingly), they would likely skip a generation and have PS3 games be backwards compatible on the PS5, likely leaving PS4 games out. It's just a joke about how they're doing things right now, it's not like he actually believes that they will not make PS3 games backwards compatible until the PS5. Sora96 17,256 Posted December 22, 2015 (edited) It's not possible. The hardware is far too different. And PS4 is NOT backwards compatible with PS2. It's called emulation. So yeah, I'm guessing they did lose a bit. Makes you wonder how they build it because Nintendo and Microsoft have no problems with backward compatibility. 1 Kittenz reacted to this
