This is something that's been bothering me for quite some time. Every original female character made for Kingdom Hearts has less than shoulder length hair. Kairi, Namine, Xion, Aqua & even Larxene have this reoccurring theme. Heck, Xemnas, Xehanort's Heartless & Marluxia have longer hair than all of the female characters. As a character designer I think it might be just a coincidental design choice, but what do you think?

It might be a cultural thing in japan. But now that you mention it that is weird.

Long hair is hard to animate. Or maybe someone at square likes girls with short hair

cuz why not? Maybe the characters look better with short hair...

Maybe short hair is quite popular in Japan.

Though that is strange, Xion, Kairi and Namine are the same person and people might find sex appeal in short haired women so that could be the reason, as so do I. Aqua has short hair because most of the time, short hair is shown as a sign or symbol of a strong women, at least that's what i think. 

Well, I really don't know why the design choice for these characters in terms of hairstyle was chosen this way, but I like their hairstyles!  Ha, I'm sure we'll get a long haired female character soon!  But yeah, this issue has never really bothered me, to be honest.

Kairi grows her hair out come Kingdom Hearts II. And Marluxia was supposed to be a girl and his hair is a little longer...

Kairi - Don't know why she had short hair in KH1 but she look cute having short hair for a fourteen year old back in 2002. She eventually grow it out in KH2 which she look more attractive with long hair back in 2005.

 

Namine - Namine never had short hair from what I can remember. She always had long hair since her debut.

 

Xion - Xion's appearance was created from Sora's strongest memories of Kairi, so she had the appearance of Kairi when she was fourteen because that was the last time Sora saw Kairi before Chain of Memories. That's pretty much why she had short hair.

 

Aqua - And as for Aqua...well? Okay honestly Aqua just look so sexy with short hair in my opinion.

 

Larxene - Same as Aqua. Larxene looks good with short hair.

 

Olette - Olette has pretty long hair though.

 

I honestly believe the reason why some the original female characters in Kingdom Hearts have short or long hair is because Nomura draw them the way they are from his imagination or vision.

Actually I think Xaldin, Marluxia, and Vexen have the longest hair of the original characters . As far as female I think you're correct

But those reasons don't explain why some male characters (Xemnas, Saix, Riku, ect.) have long hair.As for why some of the female characters have short hair, tbh I'm not sure. But I don't really care; I think they look good with short hair! Also, Olette and Namine have long hair, and Kairi has long hair now, so not all original female KH characters have short hair.

We need some variety among the females god dammit.It's incredibly dull when 90% of the females have similar length hair when the males on the other hand have far more variety.

 

I'm honestly putting my hopes in the two female foretellers having long hair because i give up on the other females.

 

 

Who knows and who cares? Are the characters fantastic? Yes so the rest doesn't matter.

Naminé's got longer hair than what you say, ceirtanly longer than Marluxia. Same as KH2 Kairi and Olette.
