Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted December 16, 2015 So far he seems fine, but an issue that I have is that he's only voiced in Japanese. Did they not manage to get Corey Burton to voice a few quick lines for them? Or did they not have access or permission to recycle clips from past games like KH or Disiddia? I hope there might be an update patch at some point that can just give him some reused Burton lines, because it just feels so weird to be so used to Cloud's English voice and then suddenly have to hear his different pitch and tone in Japanese, not to mention have all of his one liners and victory quotes in Japanese as well. I get if this isn't a thing that bugs most people, it is kind of minor in the grand scheme of things, but for someone like me where every little aesthetic counts, it's really distracting and I hope it is addressed soon or at some point. 1 Clouded Sun reacted to this
catmaster0116 2,676 Posted December 16, 2015 No problem with that! I'm used to both Corey Burton and Takahiro Sakurai voicing him. I guess in my situation its the reverse of yours - I used to be much more used to Sakurai voicing for Cloud but after a while I got used to Burton doing his voice (so now I'm fine with either). If they do release a voice patch, it'd be nice to be able to switch between the languages.

Well either case I hope they do, because they did a similar thing with Marth way back in Melee and though I don't play Fire Emblem I'm pretty sure he would have gotten an English voice actor by now, yet his Smash voice has remained Japanese for the past 3 games while everyone else (except Roy and now this Corrin character I guess) have adopted their English voice acting counterparts. It was one thing because the games were out in Japan first by the time they were added, and of course you couldn't do things like patches with the tech we had back then, but now patches are a regular thing and they haven't even bothered trying to do that, likely because everyone is so used to it by now. Again, I guess I don't have much issue of that with Marth, since as far as I know he's always sounded like that, but with Cloud I do have an established investment in him and how I'm used to him being personified, so to not hear him with Burton's voice just really throws me off a little bit. I don't know if they would ever consider doing a pre-release English voice patch for a character, but if they do I really hope Cloud gets that treatment, it just feels right to me. Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted December 16, 2015 I think you mean Steve Burton. Corey Burton does the voice of Yen Sid, Ansem the Wise and various other Disney characters.

SuperSmashDrake 48 Posted December 16, 2015 I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I'm really disappointed that Cloud doesn't speak English. 2 Hero of Light XIV and Clouded Sun reacted to this
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) Corrin is English voiced. ................oooooof COURSE he is. Why not....this announcement just keeps getting BETTER and BETTER... > I think you mean Steve Burton. Corey Burton does the voice of Yen Sid, Ansem the Wise and various other Disney characters. God damn it, that's right. Ugh, I was up way too late. I can't even keep my Burtons in order. Edited December 17, 2015 by Hero of Light XIV
Shulk 8,623 Posted December 17, 2015 Pretty sure this is something on Square's side. They really didn't want to seem to support Smash much outside of giving Sakurai Cloud and Midgar, seeing as how the only trophies included were Cloud trophies, and even the Wii U version got 2 music tracks. Given how much attention all the other third-party characters got, I doubt that this is what Sakurai had wanted. It's just all Square gave him to work with.
