DQ Heroes sells only 31,000 copies in North America

Recommended Posts

DQXI is getting released next year right? Why aren't they marketing it more? It's going to be for the big consoles.

The PS4 version probably won't be released outside Japan. Enix likely won't translate the games anymore outside Japan given that Heroes didn't do well, so if we're getting XI, it'll be on 3DS/NX with translations coming from Nintendo themselves. The English version wouldn't be coming until 2017 at the earliest, anyway.

Hopefully they'll still translate Dragon Quest XI themselves, but if that one fails... there goes any chance of ever getting another Rocket Slime game again.  Here I am, still waiting for the translation of the 3DS entry, but that'll probably never happen ;_;.  Ah well, at least the two 3DS ports are still being translated, thanks to Nintendo :).

Heroes isnt a normal dragon quest game though so i dunno what this means for the MAIN series. Some people probably didnt buy it because theyre not into repetitive smash one button to beat hordes of enemies kind of gameplay. Im one of those people btw but i do love regular dragon quest games (recently played dq 8 and loved it). Theyre releasing 7 and 8 remakes for 3DS outside of japan. Lets hope those sell well.

Nintendo might be willing to translate Rocket Slime, though I get the feeling that they won't, given that it's a little older and not really a main series game. I'm hoping they'll translate Joker 3. I got Joker 1 recently, and I love what I've played of it.

From what I remember, Enix said that if this game fails to sell well outside Japan, they won't translate any of the other games. Funnily enough, whenever Nintendo does them, they seem to do well.

Oh my gosh, how on earth does this, a Dragon Quest title, do so poorly around the world, even in NA?

I take it you're not very familiar with Dragon Quest if you're asking that question.

Nope, not at all.

Dragon Quest isn't very popular outside Japan. It does have a group of fans, though it's not nearly as big as a lot of other modern RPG series are. The fans are pretty vocal and passionate about the series (Myself included, although I'm still fairly new to it), but the majority of Western gamers don't care for it. As a fan of the series, this is disappointing, but not terribly surprising. Thankfully, Nintendo did an excellent job of advertising and promoting DQIX when they published it in the West, so I'm hoping that VII 3D and VIII 3D will be just as successful as IX was, if not more.

Then I guess Nintendo should do the same thing with every DQ title on their consoles: advertise and push them.

That's what I'm hoping they'll do. The fact that VII3D and VIII3D were in the newest Nintendo Direct is a good sign. I'm hoping that they'll follow up with the 3DS version of DQXI, and the NX version whenever that's released.

Hopefully. It hurts to see any SQEX title do poorly.

I was interested to buy this game, but I never played a Dragon Quest game before and if Hyrule Warriors is anything to go by then this game will be full of references to the previous games of the series so I'd rather play the other games before jumping into this one,but for some reason they only release the old games for handhelds and mobile,so until they port the old games in current gen console I won't start this series.

This mentality that old-school turn-based RPG should only be on handhelds and ALL console RPGs should be fast-paced action RPGs really needs to go away,it wasn't like with the older consoles and it worked just fine. How come turn-based RPG is considered boring nowadays?

Is Dragon Quest Joker Terry's Quest or something of that sort?  I swear there was a Dragon Quest game with that name translated in the west... believe it was on the DS, but I think I'm wrong about that.  That being said, I think any future translation plans depend upon both demand for the Dragon Quest series, as well as what else Nintendo currently has planned.  I don't have confidence in getting the 3DS Rocket Slime game, but perhaps a future entry on the NX could be a possibility, but who knows really.

Terry's Quest wasn't ever released outside Japan, we only got Joker 1 and 2. 3 was recently announced in Japan, and it's on the 3DS, so I think it has a shot.

All the Dragon Quest Monsters games were localized until Joker 2. None since have been localized. None for 3DS, none for mobile.

The NX version is under consideration. They did not say it's definitely coming to NX.

That's pretty much what I just said. :/

Given that they've already brought it up, I think it's probably going to be released on the NX. There's no reason to not make an NX version so far, and DQ has had much more of a history with Nintendo than with Sony.

Thats a good question. Personally i still dont find turn based combat boring but each to their own i guess D: Theres so many games that spice the turn based combat up too like the mario luigi series for example :P Although i also like older games like the SNES FF games, Lufia 2, old dragon quests etc etc and those dont really have many gimmicks to spice it up. I guess people nowdays are just impatient or something.

I think the relationship with Nintendo is the reason they're considering. They didn't have the dev kits at the time. So I think the situation they meant was they'll be looking at the NX. Obviously, if it's not on par with PS4 there might be problems.
