I don't get this logic...

Recommended Posts

first in BBS it takes one heart of pure light and one of pure darkness to make the X-blade and then in DDD it's stated that  7 lights and 13 darknesses are needed in order to make the X-blade. Can somebody explain this if it's even possible? I like KH for its story, but honestly why does something like this have to be so confusing?

see, nomura, if you have to retcon plot points to keep the story going, maybe you should stop and rethink what you're doing. Maybe there's a way to continue the story without backpedaling every other game.

say for example....BBS serves as an origin story for Apprentice Xehanort who then comes back in KH3 after the events of KH1 and 2 (the deaths of Ansem SoD and Xemnas) and he attempts to finish what he started by reaching Kingdom Hearts.

Oh look the plot continued without all the retconning and confusing crisscrossing of plot points. To be fair though, this is what happens when you write from the seat of your pants and I suppose things could be worse....not by much though.

There is only one way to make the Xblade even in Xehanorts own words. There isn't one hasty way and one lengthy way. They had to use some excuse in DDD to explain that away. Xehanorts own words:  Xehanort's Report VIII have uncovered the Keyblade's ultimate mystery. You see, besides the three families of Keyblades, there is another "Key Blade." While it may sound the same when spoken, it is notated uniquely: "χ-blade." And make no mistake, while it resembles a normal Keyblade, it is something altogether different.Keyblades are said to be man-made counterparts to Kingdom Hearts. The χ-blade, however, coexists with Kingdom Hearts. It is only forged when two hearts of equal power intersect--one heart of pure darkness, one heart of pure light. At the time of its forging, Kingdom Hearts appears. It must be noted, though, that this Kingdom Hearts is special. Unlike the Kingdoms brought about forcibly and artificially through the collection of hearts, THIS Kingdom Hearts is a perfect and complete union of ALL the worlds' hearts. Surely it was over this that the ancient Keyblade War was fought. If so, the walls that divide the worlds today are of little consequence. With the χ-blade, all their hearts could be instantly reunited--and the Keyblade War, refought. And then there's this problem with that as well:

Well I just got Flaming Lea'd.

13 Darknesses and 7 lights aren't what is required to make the x-blade. They are required to remake it. Like how a broken sword requires heat and it's broken pieces to be reforged (take Aragorn's Andùril/Nasril as an example), the x-blade requires the 20 pieces, 7 of light and 13 of darkness.

There are two ways to forge the X-blade.

  • Forge two hearts each with pure light and darkness
  • Forge the seven lights and thirteen darknesses together

For the first way, this would summon the Kingdom Hearts we see in the series. For the second, it would summon the true Kingdom Hearts that fell to darkness.

Have you read any of the posts on this thread? There is only one true way to forge the X-blade as Xehanort stated himself not only in the report in BBS but then admitted in DDD himself that he "screwed up." The way in BBS was false and it was incomplete just like the Kingdom Hearts shown in it.

That's right. I knew that. I forgot that from the games. Thank you for correcting me.

Yep, this is easily one of the biggest retcons in the series, but it would have helped if Xehanort's report had said: "One way of forging the X-Blade is to unite a heart of pure light and one of pure darkness, and another way is gathering seven lights and thirteen darknesses to forge it."  If this had been the explanation in Xehanort's report instead of one light/one dark being the ONLY way, what happened in KH3D would have made more sense, ya know?  But yeah, what's retconned is retconned. It's the magic of a poorly written retcon
