lehahiah81 60 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Seen people talk about the inclusion of Wreck it Ralph in the game, but only as a summon because getting the license to use the video game characters that appear in the movie would be too hard. My problem with this is that the video game characters that appear in the movie have no relevance to the plot at all they are just cameos, and can be taken out easily. The movie takes place mostly in sugar Rush. Game central Station could be included, but I don't feel like it's an area that would seem too odd not being full of people. The train station in twilight town is not packed, but it didn't feel too strange, and the emptiness of worlds is one of the things that really bothers me although this mostly only happens with the Disney worlds. Solarclaw 82 Posted November 10, 2015 Though the cameos are what really brought people to see Wreck-it Ralph, I agree that there are enough original characters for its own world. That said, since it IS that cameos that made it special, Square Enix can replace them with their own game characters and even from some Disney games too. I wouldn't mind a summon, but it can stand as its own world, even if only a mini-game world of racing in Sugar Rush or a climbing one in the Wreck-it Ralph game. So yes, a Wreck-it Ralph world IS possible. imo it's a manner of how they'll handle it and how the fans will react to it. I have no doubt that there will be complaints from some on how it would be practically useless / unnecessary just because their "favorite video game character" (ie Sonic, PacMan, Ryu) isn't it due to this licensing problem. 1 Deadpool reacted to this
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted November 10, 2015 The simple solution to this whole Wreck-It-Ralph situation is really an easy thing: only include the characters that appear in Fix-It Felix Jr, Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush, and voila, you've got yourself a Wreck-It-Ralph world! I also like Solarclaw's idea of switching out the other video game character cameos with characters from Square's extensive library. That could be one way of taking care of the licensing problem! 2 HeartlessAqua and Seyin95 reacted to this
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted November 10, 2015 But it's the cameos that made Wreck-It Ralph special. Peace! No, the cameos made Wreck-It-Ralph funnier than it would have been without. It's the characters and the story that made it special. I think we could live without seeing a Sonic advertisement. 4 OrangeLightning, TheKingdomkid, Movies798 and 1 other reacted to this
Deadpool 1,200 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) I want Wreck it Ralph as a full fledged world. The cameos were the icing on the cake for the money, but it DEFINITELY stands on its own characters and stories. Getting tired of people saying things like "SANIC IS WHAT MADE THE MUVIE GRATE!!!" or "I THA ONLY THANG GUD ABOUT THE MUVIE WUZ PACMEYN" Edited November 10, 2015 by Deadpool 1 lehahiah81 reacted to this
GothicSlenderman 173 Posted November 10, 2015 True and the only character that had an affect in the plot was Q*Bert and even he isn't needed. Square could have references to their own games like an arcade machine based on 2015 Dissidia, Dragon Quest monsters in the background, maybe even a Black mage cameo
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) No, the cameos made Wreck-It-Ralph funnier than it would have been without. It's the characters and the story that made it special. I think we could live without seeing a Sonic advertisement. Speak for yourself, lol. X) Anyway, yeah I agree, a Wreck-It Ralph world could easily work if you remove all the licensed character cameos. It's not like we actually go to Sonic or Street Fighters' worlds anyway, so really all you would need would be Fix-It Felix Jr., Game Central Station, Hero's Duty, and Sugar Rush, seeing as how those are the only important areas of the movie (could easily do without the Pacman therapy room, only two scenes, no big loss). However, that isn't to say that they couldn't get away with making small references to those characters. You could have Ralph joke around about a few characters he knows, without namedropping of course, maybe even make a 4th wall joke and say that Sora looks like a video game character, or that he may have seen Donald or Goofy somewhere before. And maybe there could be a few hidden gimmicks or references like a Cardboard Box or a pair of red sneakers lying around. I'm not sure how much permission they would need from other companies to be able to make such small little nods or references like these, but it would certainly be a lot easier and cheaper than trying to get the rights to use the characters for nothing more than cameos in just one part of a video game. I do agree though, seeing Game Central Station so barren would feel pretty underwhelming, especially since it was the mascots that really made that area so breathtaking, but what they do with that area all depends on what they do with the rest of the game. Will populated cities or commons actually have civilians strewn about in greater number than before (doubtful since it's probably hard to have non-disappearing NPCs in the same area as enemies) or will it be the same as usual, having mostly empty areas with a few occasional NPCs derping about here or there? Hard to say, it could go either way at this point, but if it is business as usual, it's no big deal to me, it never bothered me that much in the first place (who in their right mind would walk around while Heartless can just show up out of nowhere anyway?). But HOOO BOY, if somehow a miracle did happen and they did get to use all the cameo characters in Wreck-It Ralph for that world (as cameos of course), then man that would be the one of the biggest things to happen in video game history ever! Like, that would be some Riddly's Believe It Or Not material right there, I don't think anyone other than Smash Bros went that far, and that's still sticking mostly with it's own IP. But alas, that is still but a dream. But hey, a fan can dream, can't he? X3 I want Wreck it Ralph as a full fledged world. The cameos were the icing on the cake for the money, but it DEFINITELY stands on its own characters and stories. Getting tired of people saying things like "SANIC IS WHAT MADE THE MUVIE GRATE!!!" or "I THA ONLY THANG GUD ABOUT THE MUVIE WUZ PACMEYN" I don't really hear that many people say that about Sonic being in this movie, not even from the Sonic fan base. The only thing significant about it was that it was the blue blur's first widespread appearance on the big screen since the 90's, and even then that was just an OVA, and those don't really get as much marketing unless you already have as huge of a backing as Pokemon. Other than that, it was just big news for the big blue, it didn't really contribute to the story or anything, aside from some nice side-gags.That said though, maybe it made SEGA feel a little more comfortable with the idea of letting somebody make a movie about Sonic again, so maybe that had some sort of indirect influence on the upcoming Sony movie. But anyway, I don't think that many people (from my experience anyway) overhype Sonic's appearance in the film that much, despite how he was featured in a lot of the promotional material. Guest Posted November 10, 2015 But it's the cameos that made Wreck-It Ralph special. Peace! No they weren't. It's the original characters that made them special. The real video game character just made the world more believable. Besides, they only really made a minor impact in the beginning of the game so your point is slightly invalid. Honestly, I am so glad that you've made this comic. Wreck-It Ralph will be in Kingdom Hearts III. Disney Animation would inevitably want their successful properties incorporated into the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and because Square Enix is a gaming company, the two merge together perfectly! Seyin95 175 Posted November 10, 2015 As has been mentioned we don't need the likes of Bowser, Sonic etc for this to work out at all. We have the Fix-It-Felix residents,Hero's Duty squadron ( if that) and Sugar Rush. To be fair Sugar Rush is such an expansive world, we probably could explore there without the need for other characters. Also this could be a prime opportunity to include older Final Fantasy characters which haven't been seen in KH yet and a quick cameo would be imo better than Sonic.
