This Is The Dumbest Pre-order Ever

Woooooooooow that is the dumbest pre-order "bonus" I've ever seen. Seriously BestBuy, if I want a new pair of socks I'd go to the local clothes store and buy some. Was someone at the company drunk when they thought of this? Who would seriously pre-order a game for a dumb pair of socks?

Okay, that's actually hilarious. You would've thought they'd at least try.

Haven't you always wanted to have a chance to buy a game when it's the most expensive, just to have a pair of game-themed socks?

I know, right!? I think that the guys at BestBuy just ran out of ideas for cool pre-order bonuses and decided to be cheap and just grab a pair of socks, add some special designs on it, and call it a pre-order bonus. Well, at least now I know I won't be pre-ordering this game at BestBuy for some stinking socks.

It's not worth it, wait until it's cheaper! Or when it pops up on steam, always the best option~ <3

The socks look like they are Ebay quality, I'm honestly completely baffled here, what the heck is this, it's ridiculous. You can probably even custom make this for like a third of the price of that bundle.

For sure, they'll regret this decision when no one except let's players pre-order this game.

It feels like even IGN realizes how stupid this is as a bonus. At least, I'm going to assume they were kidding about the assuming one for each foot thing. A pin is one thing. But SOCKS? I still want Square to be more fair about how they treat international releases, but considering this, getting just the pin might not have been such an insult after all. At least it's a collector's item. And clearly we've just seen that there could be worse. I mean socks? Seriously? Was somebody's mom making a Christmas list and gotten it mixed up with the actual bonus list or something? Even a wristband would have been better, at least that's 15% swaggier than something that won't be seen half the time depending on what kind of pants you're wearing...though really, what would go well with that kind of design anyway?

I'd rather have socks than content that stays locked behind a paywall on the damn disc.

I was going to be the guy to complain about that (Namco with their stupid Storm 4 pre-order bonuses...), but it looks like you beat me here. Oh well, two people in agreement is better than one guy voicing his opinion.

But hey at least it's not a pin right?

Oh man I still remember how much backlash SE got from that move for pre-ordering KH 2.5. That felt like an insult to the western KH fnabase.

Yeah, that Naruto Storm 4 pre-order bonus idea is stupid.

Yeah, like I said. This is a really dumb pre-order "bonus". *Sigh* Game developers these days seem to be running out of ideas for pre-order bonuses. It's sad, really.

I really doubt that the developers are the minds behind most pre-order bonuses. They're in charge of building game physics, environments, menu interfaces, etc., things that actually have to do with the actual game itself. How many of them do you think actually have the extra time, skill, and energy to make all those plushies, pins, replica swords, ....socks, etc.? I'm pretty sure there's a separate position or division for that, likely someone who has to do with marketing or retail. Maybe the developers can throw an idea at them about what a cool bonus could be, but ultimately that is a decision someone else has to make. So if anything, some other bozo thought this would be a good idea, the developers likely never even knew about it.

But hey at least it's not a pin right?

Actually looking at this, that pin doesn't seem so bad in hindsight. At least it actually is a collector's item, you WONT find it at any of those Disney Pin Trading stores or stands I'll tell you that much. I swear you could get these kind of socks at any Hot Topic, that's how mediocre this is. Alone the socks would be a nice little thing for a fan to get, but when you measure it up as something that accompanies a game as a special bonus for paying an extra $10-20 it actually lowers it's value, it makes it weaker by comparison. Not to mention considering the hype that Fallout tends to get, it feels rather anti-poetic. I mean, yeah we got over-sensitive over the pin because a) as fans we REALLY tend to value and hype the series up to more of an extreme than an average casual gamer would do, so typically if there is any word of bonuses teased, we're more likely expecting something huge like an actual replica Keyblade or something (one of these days........T3T"), so our expectations might be a bit unrealistic, and b) the only real reason we even felt the pin was stupid in the first place was because we got an art book with 1.5 and Japan was getting a super huge box bundle with a plushie, an art book, both games in a special case, AND the pin. We only directed our anger towards the pin because we saw it as the one factor that represented the idea that Japan got more and we got less...and then we got the same amount anyway, so then it didn't really matter anymore. In both cases we were blinded by our feelings as fans of the series. It still was a bit unfair that it looked like we weren't going to get as much as Japan was, sure, but in the end we still got treated the same, and if Japan wasn't getting anything more than a pin either then I doubt we would have made as big of a deal over it. The pin would have been welcomed as much as any other material bonus (well I mean I guess we would still weigh it against the 1.5 bonus book but even then that would have been minor). So really, the pin wasn't all that bad, it was just the meaning that we put behind the pin that made us angry, the pin itself is a pretty decent addition on it's own. And again, it's rarer than a pair of socks you could probably get literally anywhere else.

Cars as a preorder bonus? That's crazy. And dedication to those who preorder the game.
