lostmemory123 1,056 Posted October 14, 2015 The one man who has been spoken about only legends has finally come in our time of need and has saved Anime. One Punch Man, the greatest Anime on this planet Earth. Id like to see some thoughts on the show from you guys. Is the show great? Is it better than great? Is it the best? The answer to that last question is yes. But seriously, I want to see some opinions on the show if you currently are watching it. As for those who have never heard of it, GET OUT OF HERE AND WATCH IT ALREADY! 2 Enix and Kyouma-Blade reacted to this
Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted October 14, 2015 ive only just recently begun to see this show pop up more and more so i am a bit curious as to what it's about. maybe i'll check it out when i can
Penny 128 Posted October 14, 2015 Hmm I gotta check this out now. I'll hopefully have a response about it by tomorrow!
Firaga 5,947 Posted October 14, 2015 Anime didn't need saving. Kill La Kill and Ninja Slayer From Animation already saved it. In all seriousness, I've been checking it out and it seems pretty decent so far. Still, I have doubts. This seems like it could one of those overly hyped series that can take a nose dive once it gets rolling after a certain point, and I don't want to repeat the crap I went through with Attack On Titan. Kyouma-Blade 90 Posted October 14, 2015 It's good so far, but the hype is really coming from the manga readers. Apparently, there are a lot of talented animators working on this anime, so it's at least going to have really nice animation. Here's a video that talks about that. Veemon 1,540 Posted December 14, 2015 Wow, the last episode of One Punch Man is next week... It's been so great, but I understand why they are ending it so soon. So, in response to the anime's end, I will say this: We will remember you in our hearts, Saitama. You have been one of the biggest inspirations I've ever seen in any anime I've watched! Rock on! 1 lostmemory123 reacted to this

Actually, the creator of OPM has stated that he's going to try to make sure that a second season is put into production though it's not a confirmed second season. Firaga 5,947 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) I finished the finale, and for the sake of not making a thread where I talk about OPM as well as other things that relate to it, I'll just leave my thoughts about OPM specifically here. So, what are my thoughts about the finale and the series as a whole? Well... Look, people, I tried, I really did... but all this series did for me was tell me that a) the creator isn't very good at writing parodies and b) apparently, you just need to look pretty to get anime fans to jizz all over a show. I mean, seriously, I was legitimately pulling for it at one point and I thought it wasn't going to be burned like I was Attack On Titan. But I was, and now I feel foolish. Now, as far as I'm concerned, there are many, many, many problems with this show, but I'll try to condense them as far as I can in order to avoid turning this into an essay: Problem #1: The story is almost non-existent. The bits and pieces regarding the Hero Association are very interesting, but it never segues into something that makes me latch onto what's going on. It's literally just watching battles most of the time in terms of actual intrigue. Problem #2: Saitama is a horrible main character. He literally has the power of a God and barely proves anything to show that he deserves it nor that he should be regarded as a "Hero". The only time I actually cared more about him rather than him making jokes (which were legitimately funny, I can't lie) was the mini-arc with the Sea King. In that plot, his actions towards the other heroes, especially Mumen Rider, allowed him to have an actual moment of humanity. And yet, even after that, it just seems like he just reverts back to being an uncaring shit. And don't get me started on his fights. I thought the "one punch" gimmick was going to get old, and I was right as rain. Except again for the Sea King fight, there was no valid explanations or at least reasonable ones for why Saitama couldn't just get it over with. And even when he was faced with a serious challenge in all of the two times in the show, he didn't even emote to show that he's feeling pain. It's not funny, it's just a failure in expanding this character into something greater. Problem #3: The other heroes are a joke. Let me tell you something, Saitama may have turned me off, but I loved Genos, and I loved Silverfang, and I loved Metal Bat, and I loved Atomic Samurai, and heck, I even loved Tornado. Most if not all the non-joke heroes rubbed off me better than Saitama did. Now to be fair, this may just be the equivalent of standing next to an ugly person to look hotter, but even then, I'll still tell you that at the very least, Genos should have been the main character, with all the other characters getting the same roles but maybe just a bit more larger and well defined. At least when I watch them fight, Genos especially, I can get invested in what they're doing or what their motivations are, or even if they're just trying to do their job and survive, because unlike Saitama, they can elicit a response from me and won't just piss away any drama in the battle itself and just win in the end like I know they win. Tornado, I admit, also seemed way too overpowered, but at least she was used in small doses. Problem #4: This is supposed to be a parody, and yet, it doesn't feel like one. I get the joke with Saitama, they beat it into the ground almost every episode: he has a massive amount of power and can literally beat anybody with just one punch, but he's also an unassuming git who wears a silly costume and blah blah blah. What's the joke? That looks aren't everything? That's something that's used as a trope in freakin' DRAGONBALL, the defining series of shonen. Is it a commentary on the shonen trope of overpowered main characters? Well, that doesn't work because Saitama doesn't make up for it by having a good personality or anything. He's literally just like those same characters. Or how about his views on being a hero, like his constant denial of doing what he does for anything except as a hobby and as a way to get paid, and then calling people out when they're upset at his actions causing more harm than good? The first one I can just handwave as him being an ass, but the second one I just don't legitimately get at all. I mean, yeah, he was being unjustifiably scrutinized in context, but I still care because he's an ass, and that's also a big problem with the moral itself. And you know, I hate going back to this, but the Sea King fight had a moral similar to that but handled better, especially with how Saitama handled it himself. I could probably talk about more, but at this point, I'm just losing interest. This series just left a bad taste in my mouth overall. - tagged just because the finale is still fresh in people's minds - Edited December 21, 2015 by Firaga Sensei

lostmemory123 1,056 Posted December 21, 2015 You didn't even read anything I wrote, did you? Dont be so quick to assume mah boi. Despite the painful read that it was, I did in fact read what you had to say about OPM. While I would go on a debate on the matter, with me probably saying stuff along the lines of "shows/animes dont need to follow a story in order for them to be considered good/great" or maybe something like "Saitama is a bad main character?PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!" But I decided not to do so, and instead decided to simply let you have your opinion on the show. I dont want to start a ruckus after all.

One that can be argued to be very rude to the fans who did enjoy OPM, right? But OK,Ill oblige. Edited December 21, 2015 by lostmemory123

Firaga 5,947 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Dude, calm down, youre acting pretty rude about this. I've dealt with a lot of crap already just for having this opinion, I deserve to let off a little steam. Especially since you're the one who instigated this in the first place. And again, if you don't want to talk about this, then I will respectfully put this conversation to a close and we can move on. I dont care about whatever "crap" youve dealt with in regards to your opinion, thats on you, but Im pretty sure that whatever you went through doesnt warrant you calling me a smartass. If I set you off somehow I apologize, but I can assure you that doesnt give you the right to be acting so rude. It's not on me for having an opinion and being shat on it just because I'm in the minority, but I'll stand by what I said before. We disagree, but that's fine. To each their own. At the very least I commend you for handling this better than some other people I've talked to today.
