Tails 6,692 Posted September 29, 2015 Well, looks like YouTube is going to possibly implement a paid subscription service on October 22nd. And the worst part is, this is this paid subscription is going to charge you $10.00 a month all just to watch your favorite YouTuber's videos. This is so stupid. And just when I thought YouTube couldn't get any worse. At this point I might move on to Dailymotion of this officially gets implemented next month. 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
Ultima Spark 753 Posted September 29, 2015 And that's why I don't bother playing the monetisation game. ...why can't the web just revert to what it was like in late '06-early '07? 2 Kittenz and 2 quid is good reacted to this
Pokemoncuzzie 271 Posted September 29, 2015 This really sucks. I can kinda see what they are trying to do though. They want to counter all the people using Ad Block as less money is made that way. The Youtubers kinda need the money to keep their content going. But I don't think getting people to pay is the right way forward.
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Bye-bye, majority of Youtube's userbase. Bye-bye, Youtube profits. If this is true, they're in for an early grave. You can't stop Adblock users, you can only ignore them, lest ostracizing everybody else. Trying to curb the problem with a subscription service is just going to screw you. Rinax 473 Posted September 29, 2015 Guess there's no way to tell who has AdBlock on, and just prevent them from watching the video unless it's off? I've always had mine disabled when I'm watching people I'm subbed to. Also, I don't have my own method of online payments, so they'll lose me if this is implemented. IwasBornAsVentus 396 Posted September 29, 2015 Youtube more like Cashtube  . What happened to the old days when YT had a better rating system and were not so keen about copyright and when Google + didn't exist those were the days when YT was truly YT. A lot of users have received emails from YT about this new information but I have not received any information by email, could it be because Im not in US, is this going to affect other parts of the world too. 2 AlixtheMagi13 and 2 quid is good reacted to this
lostmemory123 1,056 Posted September 29, 2015 I was always in support of some kind of Youtube service, cause lets face it, it was honestly inevitable that they were gonna do an ad-free thing. But this?THIS? Hopefully though, there will be enough backlash for Youtube to change their mind.
Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) 3,859 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) I think nothing will change; this is only for those who watch videos of those who they're subscribed to. Don't subscribe to anyone, that way you won't have to pay to watch any video. Please, tell me if I understood something different, I'm sure this is what was said. Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted September 29, 2015 Dear lord. Am I going to have to pay $10 to every user I'm already subscribed to!? Who's going to like, comment, and SUBSCRIBE now!? Nobody, that's what. This will make users LOOSE money, not gain any. God damn it Youtube, when did you turn into such a prick? 1 Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) reacted to this

R.I.P youtube i really feel bad for the X-keeper mostly cynical since he has no job and he is living off youtube and i can't pay $10 a month, i'm trying to get money for a ps4 and kh2.8 now so i defiantly can't add youtube subs to my list, plus i have like over 100 subs soo... yeah. what they should do is just have google make it so you have to pay for ad-blocker and just give the money to youtube to give to youtubers, done and done i just gave them a 1,000,000 dollar idea Well, looks like YouTube is going to possibly implement a paid subscription service on October 22nd. Yeah, I remember back in the old days YouTube was such a good site. Now thanks to Google YouTube is getting worse every day. ANd this new payed subscription system will just ruin YouTube even more. Veemon 1,540 Posted September 29, 2015 So, can I (non-video maker) still watch videos on YouTube for free on the app, or can I no longer watch my shows on YouTube, and I'll have to look elsewhere for them? Exactly. This will only hurt YouTube even more. They should think of another alternative than this. Who will seriously pay money just to watch some videos on YouTube? There are certain fools who do. I mean, the people who are running the site 24/7 should get something out of their site rather than wasting their time. People who are truly loyal to YouTube would pay to watch them. Nero Kunivas 3,046 Posted September 29, 2015 Umm....this is optional, not a replacement for the standard subscription service. Also, Ad-Block is rather naughty anyway.
Wyle 123 Posted September 29, 2015 I don't mean to be starting something up here, but this seems fake. Especially the letter when it read, "a loss for the thriving presence you've built on the platform, and above all, a loss for your fans". Maybe YouTube down the road is implementing an subscription based fee to prevent ads, but I see it no more than that. Already we are able to donate money to our favorite YouTubers through a support feature. I guess I just don't see the benefit for Google to do this so it's hard for me to even comprehend. Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted September 29, 2015 didn't a recent Chrome update accidentally stop ad block users from skipping ads or something? Why don't they just implement that again, only this time intentionally, instead of doing this? this whole thing seems a bit too silly. what's the point of making someone with 3 subscribers implement a paid subscription service? if anything that'll just seriously trim the fat of the youtube community. i'll wait and see how this turns out
Aang 649 Posted September 29, 2015 I think this subscription plan is a terrible move on youtubes part. The whole appeal to youtube in the first place was the idea that you can post your own videos, and watch others absolutely FREE. A place where you can upload anything with near no restrictions. A place where you could watch video's and talk with others in the comments who have also just watched the same video, for FREE. That was the major draw. It's how it got popular. Sure, there will be a lot of people willing to pay the subscription. But there's going to be even more who don't, or can't. Youtube will lose a large portion of there audience. We're talking millions world wide who either can't afford the subscription, or who refuse to partake in it ( and rightly so ). It's a bad move all around. Let's hope this doesn't happen.
