Hurricane Joaquin coming to USA East Coast

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to let everyone who lives in the NE or knows someone who does that we might get a storm like around Friday.

It could be a Tropical Storm, a Hurricane (Category 1 and 2, basically Irene/Sandy level) or a Major Hurricane (Category 3 - 5).

The models are saying it could be a Category 1 or 4 or something. Its crazy, I think it might be a Category 1 if anything. It just formed so who knows what could possibly happen so people on the east coast in general should check it out to see if they'll get it. It will probably be named Tropical Storm/Hurricane Joaquin (this name sounds so ratchet but i love it).

Here is the current forecast:

(NOTE: Always updates by itself, so whatever you see here, is the current update)

I live in the northeast! Please pray for this to miss us or remain as a tropical depression!

Best thing you could pray for is a TS in terms of categories. Lets hope it stays that way.

I'll be updating this thread about new information in blue.

------------------------------

NEW INFO: The storm should be hitting the NE Saturday/Sunday now instead of Thursday/Friday. The states nearby the coast will be affected before then along the way however.

Meh, I'll take it as a tropical storm for NY at best. Still gl to those down there, it will definitely hit hard.

Aren't you in NYC or did you move?

Yeah I'm expecting a strong TS or a weak hurricane from this one but we'll see. Its still 5 days out. Its also being very weird. It moved its circulation (what would be the eye) to the south near the thunderstorms which is weird. It could be a bad thing, since thunderstorms need to be around the eye in order to intensify because it needs to be organized.

Still in NYC. I don't expect much over here besides a storm. It will be annoying though.

Where I live, I am hours away from the Atlantic Ocean, so the worst that could happen here is rain, thunder, lightning, and things of that nature. Plus I live in a sort of land where there are mountains all around me so I think I will be safe. But for people here like Shana who may experience this storm, may you all have safety and best wishes everyone!

It will be, we aren't made for hurricanes. Sandy was a Cat 1 (like 75 mph, borderline hurricane when landfall) and still did something because of the angle it hit. Remember that the categories really measure its wind and pressure more than its rain, etc. Sandy was a huge rain/snow maker. But it seems it can take a Sandy way or just go through Queens. Honestly have to wait till Wed or Thursday for a better picture.

UPDATE 2: Tropical Depression 11 is now Tropical Storm Joaquin and is expected to come near the North East by Sunday now. There is more of a possibility of this becoming a hurricane as well. It could landfall in North Carolina or Florida, but the Northeast is where its at right now.

How do you even pronounce that?

Anyway, here's hoping for as little damage as possible.  I'm a ways inland, but I do see the clouds left over from storms that hit the gulf.

Waa-keen. It sounds so great.

True I'm hoping for minimal damage as well.

I hope it doesn't turn into anything like or even worse than sandy.

It could have a Sandy moment according to some models (where it goes out to sea and then makes a quick turn to hit NJ but near NYC, which was the worst possible outcome for NYC in terms of pattern).

Please stay safe this upcoming Sunday if you're in the area.

Its less of Sunday and more of next week because...

---------------------------

UPDATE 3: Tropical Storm Joaquin forecast has changed. It wont arrive on Sunday, it could arrive later then.

On top of that here are the 4 possible outcomes with this system: Hits Northeast, Hits Mid-Atlantic, Hits Florida or churns out to sea.

The models and forecasts are very low in confidence because nothing like this ever happened. There is a chance it can be a Category 3 in the Bahamas sooner or later.

It will affect the Caribbean and the Bahamas especially so far. Florida will be affected too one way or another soon.

The system is moving extremely slow which is causing a change in the forecast.

The humidity is killing me. Storm/hurricane is not even here yet, but the humidity is... Ugh.

I know right?! Why is it so humid all of the damn sudden. If its because of that storm thats gonna last like the rest of the week I'ma shoot a bitch. Like seriously NYC is straight up getting bi polar again. Its hot and cold and humid at the same time. Sweater dilemma getting real.

Joaquin is probably a Hurricane already, despite the forecast saying it should've been one on Thursday.

It has an eye.

Sorry got busy today, time to update!

---------------------------

UPDATE 6: Hurricane Joaquin had been reconned and its pressure dropped to a 950. This is bad. The lower the pressure the stronger the system. When Joaquin was a TS his pressure was around 976. This meant he was already a hurricane but yet his winds had to catch up. Once they did, he was already in Cat 2 pressures. His winds caught up again and got to Cat 2....but now the pressure is 950. This means its winds are gonna have to catch up again, to a Cat 3. And it can just do this again (as expected) to become a Category 4, and maybe even a 5 is a possibility.

Joaquin track is still very uncertain, it can hit from North Carolina to Maine or go out to sea as always. Its wind field may or may not expand. Those who are living in Florida, the states a bit north of Flo and the Bahamas should be ready because this storm might do some damage despite not landing anywhere near you guys. Even if it goes out to sea it will rain a lot on the eastern seaboard so look out for that too, but I don't expect it to go out to sea.

Anyone in the areas that could get hit should get prepared pretty much right now. You don't want food/supplies to run out after people rush to buy them on the weekends. The Carolinas and Virginia people especially since it looks like it might just hit there, but who knows. Things could change. This system is depending on 50 things right now to make its track.

NOTE: I just realized that the forecast updates on its own. That's cool.
