LETTERSE7EN 54 Posted September 23, 2015 I've got a few questions about the keyblade and overall keyblade lore that I'm hoping you guys and help me out with.. 1- Sora never went through the inheritance ceremony..Terra passed it down to Riku..When Destiny Islands fell to the darkness, Riku should have gotten the keyblade, but he accepted the darkness which allowed Sora to wield instead..Assuming that I have that right, is this the only case we know of something like this occurring? In Axel's case, I'm assuming all he did was show he had a strong heart in his desperation to find his friends..Also, does Ventus' heart have anything to do with Sora getting the keyblade or is just really the Riku thing? 2-What is the significance of the kingdom key? I wouldn't even ask if it weren't for the Kingdom Key D, or the fact that the X Blade is forged from two separate kingdom keys..but it just seems like there is something special about that particular keyblade, other than the fact that it's the default blade we start every game with.. 3-I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, because it seems like a silly question, but when Sora gets a new keyblade, is he just given a keychain that he attaches to the kingdom key and transforms it, or are the characters in the various worlds he visits actually handing him a brand new keyblade that already existed? 1 The Transcendent Key reacted to this
Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted September 23, 2015 so i'll take a stab at these 1. i think Sora is the only one to receive a keyblade in this manner. although later in KH1 he proves himself worthy to wield it so I guess you could liken it to the same way Lea got a keyblade. He had a strong heart and proved himself worthy. also Ventus doesn't have anything to do with Sora getting a keyblade. Ven only allows him to dual-wield. 2. I always thought the Kingdom Key was just the default form of Keyblades. I know it's meant to be the Key from the Realm of Light (like how the Kingdom Key D is the key from the Realm of Darkness) so that makes me think it IS just the basic template for a Keyblade for someone in the Realm of Light. 3. This one I'm actually sure I know the answer to and yes it's supposed to be different key chains we're getting from the worlds. KH1 provides the most evidence for this answer. I guess Sora just attaches them to the Keyblade and it just changes it's form, which is also what makes me think the Kingdom Key is a default look for someones keyblade until they put their own key chain on it or something. so i think that's about right but if not i'm sure someone will come along to correct it 1 LETTERSE7EN reacted to this
Master Eraqus 1,340 Posted September 23, 2015 Sora obtained Riku's Keyblade by touching the light within Riku's heart. So far, this is the only case we've seen this. We have yet to know how Lea got the Keyblade and I don't think that Yen Sid commenced the Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony with him cause he seemed very surprised when Lea summoned his Keyblade. Ventus' heart has nothing to do with Sora obtaining Riku's Keyblade. Many people have spread that as a misconception, including myself for some time. I think because of Sora's connection to Ventus, it shaped Sora's Keyblade (that was originally meant to be Riku's) to make it look like something similar to the X-Blade since Ven wielded it once when Vanitas and him became one. If Sora didn't take it from Riku, it would have probably looked different when Riku wields it. I don't know about the rest of its significance though. I keep hearing that it is the Keyblade of the Realm of Light (as opposed to the Kingdom Key D, being the Keyblade of the Realm of Darkness) but what makes it that special? I have no clue. Sorry there. Flaming Lea will probably help. Sora never gets any new Keyblades. He acquires keychains which change the form of the Keyblade. Don't worry if you think you sound dumb. This is actually a quite common misconception. 1 LETTERSE7EN reacted to this
VisitJoan 2,713 Posted September 23, 2015 #1 - That's pretty much right. That's what makes Sora special - he's not the only one that wields a keyblade, he's the only one that has gotten his keyblade through nontraditional means. Axel (or Lea if you want to be correct) got the ceremony form Yen Sid. It just wasn't shown so it would be a surprise to the player. Still, the fact the Lea just walked in there and asked for one and was able to get is kinda cool. #2 - no clue #3 - It's the keychain 1 LETTERSE7EN reacted to this

Lea got the ceremony from Yen Sid as implied in the DDD interviews. Nomura also confirmed Sora did not inherit anything from anybody- it was his destiny. Ven only gave him the ability to dual wield. 2.It's just basically the default RoL keyblade as opposed to the default RoD keyblade Kingdom Key D. It really hasn't been expounded on much. 3. It's a different keychain. Every adventure, memories, and experience earned is what those keychains are literally made of. They then transform the keyblade as such. Cool, thanks guys. Ventus' heart has nothing to DDD ultimania and Famitsu talk about and show how Lea got his keyblade. I'll go get them Edit: Here ya go After that, he came to Yen Sid hoping to train.Yes. Since the Mysterious Tower is in an unknown spot, first you have to enter via King Mickey’s world. After that, they trained in a place where time flows differently, managed by Merlin, the great magician who can exceed time, as well as the Fairies. Did he have any prior experience? In order to wield a Keyblade, the most important requirement is to be “the owner of a strong heart.” Regardless if it’s a good heart or a bad heart, a strong heart is necessary. Right now there are a lot of things that Lea wants to regain. That desire is connected to the strength of his heart. Why did Lea visit Disney Castle when he should have been looking for his friends? To search for his friends he needed the power to move between worlds, and there is no way to do that other than to become a Keyblade wielder. While wanting to be made a Keyblade wielder, Lea saw a message from the past recorded by Ansem the Wise and, knowing it was dangerous, used the Corridors of Darkness once more to go talk with King Mickey and the others. That’s why after Maleficent left he was questioned at the Mysterious Tower. So, in “The King Departs” when Yen Sid said, “But Merlin and the three good fairies are aiding him in a place that’s more…temporally flexible”…Upon request, those who can manipulate time–Merlin and the three fairies who appeared in KH2–changed the flow of time in a special place, and there Lea received hastened training in order to be able to use the Keyblade, basically. In the original scenario, we had planned to have Lea able to use the Keyblade when he ran to Sora. One more question..If having a strong heart whether it be good or bad is a requirement to obtain the keyblade, then why was Riku skipped over? He just accepted the darkness is all..I mean, obviously a lot of the lore came after..I'm sure they weren't planning of having hundreds of keyblade wielders right from the beginning, but I'm just curious. Riku didn't show weakness of heart in my opinion..He simply stated that he wasn't afraid of the darkness..It's clear from the other scenes in KH1 intro, that he's strong willed, determined and all that other good stuff..he clearly cares for Sora and Kairi..idk..just wondering

Meaning he did not have it in check or in control. Once he learned to control it this became a nonissue. MX mastered and controlled darkness so that's another example of what I mean. When Riku did the same he got another keyblade this time based off Soul Eater as a base. 3 LETTERSE7EN, Robbie the Wise and Blooming Marluxia reacted to this

Okay then, here's my answers to your questions! The thing with Sora is that, according to Nomura, he was always destined to wield the Keyblade. He was going to receive it at some point, but he just happened to receive it right after Riku's darkness made his Keyblade pass on to Sora, hence, making Sora a Keyblade Wielder before his time. It's really interesting, when you think about it! I think that Nomura once said that the Kingdom Key's color design matched Riku's clothes, but I don't know if that answers your question. Hmm...to put it another way, the Keyblade is a manifestation of a person's strength of heart, so perhaps the Kingdom Key was the manifestation of Riku's desires to go to the outside world, to opening new doors, and that, in turn, is what I would believe led the Kingdom Key to having the design it currently has! As for this one, the Keychains are what changes Sora's Keyblade's appearance. They aren't Keyblades that the characters from other worlds handed over to him. Hope this helped! Captain Swagblader 280 Posted October 3, 2015 I'll answer #2. I am not sure about this, but I heard somewhere in the games that the keyblade Sora wields is the keyblade for the realm of light, similar to how the kingdom key D is for the realm of darkness. All the other keyblades are still keyblades, just not the ones that were meant to protect one realm or the other. Sora's keyblade is the keyblade that protects the realm of light and it is the opposite of the Kingdom Key D.
