Just have musical segments be optional cinematic cutscenes. Have popular songs have a Kingdom Hearts twist to them.

They only did it in KH2 because they realized how unbalanced combat was in Atlantica in the first game. I mean, enemies could attack from any angle, including below, at any time, with no warning and we couldn't even dodge or guard! They couldn't figure out how to improve it in KH2, so they decided to eliminate combat for that world altogether and make it a mini-game world.

So no, they won't because they don't need to.

Pfft. Like Kairi wasn't having musical numbers while Sora was sleeping for a year.

On topic, I actually like the musical idea. The only thing that stopped me from fully enjoying Atlantica was that the original songs written for the game had lousy lyrics (though I wonder if that's a translation thing). If a good amount of effort was put in, it'd be fine.

I'd be ok if we had some fighting sequences that were rhythm based sort of similar to the duels in the original dark cloud for some of the mini bosses or the theatre scene in final fanatasy 9, but that's not really musical that's just matching button presses for certain fights. I feel it could make for interesting scenes if it were handled that way like it was done in final fantasy 9 where it actually felt important.
