Guest Posted September 8, 2015 Whilst looking at the Big Hero 6 reveal trailer by Roy Conli: something caught my eye: Hiro's character model. I decided to do a little bit of research as to whether it has been used before for Big Hero 6 promotion... turns out, it hasn't. This means that Hiro Hamada is the first Disney Animation character publicly shown to be rendered with the Kingdom Shader.
143436611Xxcc 1,105 Posted September 8, 2015 That's all concept art from the movie they didn't share any of the actual in game workings for the Big Hero 6 world.
KeybladeLordCheeseCurd 1,542 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) We sure? Because if that is a picture of him in the Unreal Engine 4/Kingdom Shader, then WOW. Then again it could just be something from the movie. Edited September 8, 2015 by KeybladeLordSora
Liam Johnson 6 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) When comparing Hiro's render in the Roy Conli video to the official render from the movie I noticed that there are actually differences in the two images, especially in the face and angle of his body. While I'm personally inclined to believe that it isn't from Kingdom Hearts III because of the text "from the film Disney Big Hero Six" under all the images in video, it's still is curious. Then again the one on the left is mostly likely an earlier version than the one on the right. It's hard to say. KH3 Hiro Render_zpsjasmxnn3.png Hiro_Suit_Render.png Then again the one on the left is mostly likely an earlier version than the one on the right. It's hard to say. If you look at the first one, it has details reminiscent of Square Enix character models on PS3/PS4 games. Hiro's suit is more worn out. There's scratches on his helmet and his pupils are a lot bigger (presumably to blend in with the Kingdom Hearts aesthetic). Disney could have easily shown a finished render for an announcement like this as pre-rendered promotional art would have been pointless and irrelevant. I think that it is intentionally coincidental that Hiro render mimics another render of Hiro as Disney and Pixar movies release key character and models for their movies. All the Disney Animation movies before Tangled, Disney characters did have their character models released for promotion. We sure? Because if that is a picture of him in the Unreal Engine 4/Kingdom Shader, then WOW. Then again it could just be something from the movie. That's the thing, it looked so convincing that it was a promotional render of Hiro from BH6, however, upon closer inspection, I noticed distinct Square Enix details! lostmemory123 1,056 Posted September 8, 2015 Taking in the fact that Square is working with the animators of the film, I say it wouldnt be surprising if this did turn out to be the KH3 model, after what Xehanort said at E3 I was expecting the models to look closely like the movie counterparts, although Im gonna hold of saying that this is indeed the model until we get some officialy released pics, cause it still might be an old render from Disney. Isamu Kuno 2,512 Posted September 8, 2015 Eh, looks more like Disney Infinity style to me.
Cheshire Meløn 4 Posted September 9, 2015 Not totally of-topic, but I watched Big Hero 6 again the other night, first time since the recent KH3 trailer. And all things considered, that movies aesthetic is almost 1:1 with the quality of the chessgame scenes. It's amazing to think games have come that far graphically, but it's also going to be a pleasure playing trough worlds so visually close in game to their actual movie sources. If they deliver on the whole "shaders adjusting to world movie viuals" thing, I might actually cry playing trough some of the 2D worlds. I pretty much agree with what you've just said here. I really did make an effort to look for an entirely identical copy but I found nothing. I suppose it is the fact that they are working "hand in hand" with the Disney Animators to make the models as faithful to the movies as possible... (hence the reason as to why it is so hard to distinguish as to whether it is an official character model or not). Well, the 2D world would look like GC Disney movies anyway (as evident by Mount Olympus). I wonder how drastically different Hercules would look in comparison to a character like Rapunzel as Hercules is from a hand drawn Disney movie whilst Rapunzel is from a CG Disney movie. Eh, looks more like Disney Infinity style to me. You may need to go to an optician to get your vision checked... this is a Disney Infinity Hiro character model.
