I toke me a VERY long time to make this video. P.S. This video isn't perfect because I was trying to make it better, but the video editor crashed on me and I didn't feel like doing it ALL OVER again.

okay, now before this turns into a flame war, let me say this:

1: I respect all of your opinions

2: I do in fact like the game. It's even my top five favorite tales games xP.

3: I think both games have an awesome story.

Now, let's get onto it.

I DON'T think that I think the game is overrated  because it is popular. It's because I don't think it's as fun as people say it is. I played the game and finished it once and I never really got the feeling of it being as fun as Abyss. I just feel like the game is missing something that Abyss had that I really liked, but I can't really put my finger to it yet. When I was playing Abyss, the second tales game I've played, every time I got into a battle, I always felt excited to fight them. The battles felt so alive. The music kept my excited. The music was so good to me that it felt like it was worth it trying to fight all of the enemies that are in my way.The boss battles were just plain awesome. The characters constantly talking during the battle (most of the time and yes, I know that other characters do that in other tales games too) and the overlimit feature. I loved it when I used it because when I used it near an enemy it knocks them into the air for a few seconds letting me think on whether I should do a mystic arte on it or not. I love the combos that Luke and the other characters in the game have. The combos just felt so good to me. I'm not going to touch both of the game's story because of what I said for number 3.

Compared to other Tales games I've played, Xillia's battles do feel quite easy compared to that of Symphonia or Abyss in my opinion. Maybe that's the reason? The battles are easier so they're without much challenge and therefore enjoyment? Not to say that they fights were't enjoyable at all, just not as enjoyable as they could have been.

Xillia is my favorite because of the great story and interesting characters, but in terms of gameplay I had more fun playing other Tales games. The battles are really easy for the most part,it almost felt button mashy for me at times. The game also lacks in sidequests, Symphonia,Graces and Xillia 2 had much more and there's not a lot of costumes to unlock in-game,most of them are paid DLC.It didn't bothered me,but I think Xillia is also one of the most linear game in the series,I never played Abyss though,so I'm not sure if its linear as well or not and the soundtrack of Xillia is very forgettable.

I enjoyed Xillia, but the only thing that really made me keep playing was the cast of characters, because they were a very well put together cast IMO.  I prefer Xillia 2 myself.  Part of the reason that Xillia isn't my favorite is that I played it right after finishing Graces F, which made the combat feel like a huge step down.  It isn't a bad tales game by any means, i just don't think it excelled in one area or another, everything about it just felt rather average to me.

Abyss was stupidly confusing. That's my main problem with it. Where as Xillia explains every system and how things work, then lets you do it on your own, Abyss basically dropped you into a whole bunch of random confusing things and mechanics and refused to let you know how they work. Overlimit in Abyss and Symphonia was disappointingly minor as opposed to Xillia and Graces especially that made it feel special. Also I never understood what the heck characters were saying in battles, so there was no point to that feature. Combos are not something I've been able to pull off really well, so that's nothing. But I think Xillia was so much cooler when it came to combat. Whether I was preparing for a rush by charging by Alvin then unleashing these super epic charged artes, or Jude snap pivoting and berating the enemy from behind, or casting these huge epic spells or channeling that power into sword attacks, and especially doing linked artes, it always felt smooth and badass. Combat in Abyss felt more like a huge chore.

Of course, a very big thing when it comes to my opinions of Abyss, it might suffer since it is the only one I played by myself. Since I had it on my 3DS my sisters could not join me, but playing the others on the PS3 I had the grand experience of co-op and loving the game with others, sharing my thoughts and feelings as it went.

Xillia 1 was the second Tales game I played and now that I've played a lot of the others, it's defintely one of the worst ones. The story was confusing in some places, probably because I wasn't paying attention due to how boring it was. The characters were bland especially Leia, I wonder what she was even doing there in the first place. The gameplay was okay, it was fun I guess for the start but I could not bring myself to do a second playthrough with Jude. If the combat were more enjoyable, I would have. Xillia 2 however was a much better game and improved on almost everything.

Abyss is defintely miles better than Xillia 1, it's my absolute favourite out of all the Tales games. They just did everything right in that game and I wish there would be another Tales game of the same quality. The music as you said is a lot better. I felt in Xillia 1 that most of the music was just there to fill the void in cutscenes, it wasn't anything special. I have the soundtrack for the game and I haven't listened to a single track. The music does nothing. Abyss had great music though, stuff that you would actually want to listen to outside of playing the game.

I also loved the gameplay. The fof system weas a great feature that I wish they could implement in other games, or something similar. It made you think about what artes to use in battle. And I liked being able to combo forever in Abyss unlike in Xillia. But yeah, Xillia really is nowhere near the quality of Abyss.

I honestly think that it would have been cool if they made Tales of Xillia's battle system better for Tales of Zestiria. I should stop complaining now. I should be looking forward to the game, since I have a VERY weird taste towards Japanese JPGS. I might end up liking it at the end...Maybe they MIGHT expand upon xillia's battle system with Tales of Berseria.

The Xillia battle system is pretty much an updated version of Symphonia's battle system already and I prefer Graces' battle system,so if Zestiria plays like Graces then that awesome.

I guess I should be more open minded for the tales games. Honestly I just don't understand why people like tales of graces' battle system so much. It's probably not my type of game. Tales of like xillia are tales games that are most likely for me.

To me the jumping in the Tales games is pointless,it doesn't add much to the game,I'd rather have the ability to dodge left and right

If the game has free run then I mostly use that or use an arte that pushes the enemy away from me.  Jumping in a tales game is the last thing I do

What makes Graces battle system so good is that it doesn't punish magic users. All the other games have the SP and when your magic users run out of it they are screwed because they can't hold their own in a physical fight. It is also great because of A-artes, which helped make every single attack feel special. Xillia's battle system is rather bland in my opinion as it sticks very closely to almost all other JRPGs do.

I haven't played Graces but I am playing Xillia 2 right now. From what I've played, the gameplay is pretty fun. I agree that jumping is pointless and jump cancel really annoys me. I haven't found another way of cancelling attacks. Does Graces gameplay not have free run? I quite like it.

I think it does

but at the same time, it punishes the people who like to attack a lot.

Graces does have free run, but it generally isn't the best option because it also has a side-step feature (don't remember what the game actually called it). Free run is a bit slow and consumes AC (and once you run out, free run gets REALLY slow and you can't do any other action until you stop and let the AC recharge). Side-stepping, however, lets you dodge an attack and then you can immediately start attacking again.

Anyway, I'm okay with Zestiria being based upon Grace's system. Sure, I love the more traditional combat in Tales (that's what got me into the series, after all), but I don't mind having some variety.

I didn't like it when some of the bosses were harder than they should have been. If I wanted the bosses to be harder, I would have put it on hard mode. I want bosses in tales game to be slightly to moderately hard because I am looking for SOME challenge, but not a battle that is so hard that I could have rage quited .
