Enix 995 Posted September 3, 2015 I'm pretty sure you had the same problem too. Whenever an game releases, people automatically call it a ripoff of Inset Nintendo franchise. For example, remember Sonic Shuffle for the PS1 & DC? It was a unique party game featuring cards. But of course, people decided that it was ripoff of Mario Party. (Cards wasn't featured in Mario Party till Island tour.) Both party games were vastly different from each other. This go to other franchises too. People just assumed that all Non-Nintendo games are a ripoff of something Nintendo. Here's what people assume of when looking at non-Nintendo games: Halo and futuristic shooters= Metroid prime ripoff Dark Souls, Uncharted, and other puzzle games= ripoff of Zelda Racing games= Ripoff of Mario Kart Party games= Ripoff of Mario Party Sims and other life simulator= Ripoff of Animal Crossing Playstation all-stars and fighting Games= Ripoff of Smash Bros and Punchout!™ Klonoa and kiddie games that featured cute characters as the main characters= Ripoff of Kirby 2D & 3D Platformers: Ripoff of Mario Bros and Donkey Kong games RPG: Ripoff of Mother and Xenoblade Games where you train: Ripoff of Wii fit trainer This needs to stop with the community. Every single game isn't a ripoff of something Nintendo. I wish people would stop that. That's like if Digimon ripped off Pokemon. (Digimon came first)
Ninkoro 123 Posted September 3, 2015 Kingdom Hearts => Ripoff of Mario 64.........Oh wait No but seriously, it just sounds like you've had unfortunate conversations with the select few Nintendorks, or have been reading reviews on gameinformer. Unless those are your friends saying that.....in which case i'd get new friends. 4 Rizzyy, TheEightMelodies, Philip Ellwell and 1 other reacted to this
Saber Lily 1,543 Posted September 3, 2015 Fun fact: Metroid Prime Release Date: November 17, 2002 Halo: Combat Evolved Release Date: November 15, 2001 Sorry Nintendo fanboys. Metroid Prime ripped off Halo, even the release month and almost the release day. 2 moogleman and Rizzyy reacted to this

Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted September 3, 2015 The only rip off complaints I've heard are of All-Stars vs Smash. Nothing else. The minority mean nothing and going as far as to push it on any one fanbase as a whole is just ridiculous and impractical.
TheEightMelodies 152 Posted September 3, 2015 (edited) I've never really had this problem. The only comparisons I've really heard are Mario Party with Sonic Shuffle and Smash Bros with Playstation Allstars. Sonic Shuffle was pretty bad and it was obvious the game was made to try prelong the Dreamcasts lifespan by riding off the Mario Party hype. I can say I've never played Allstars but not heard many positives. It's also kinda obvious the game was made to resemble Smash. So I can understand why some call them two games 'Rip-Offs'. However all these comments are really rare so I don't know where you've been hearing all these comments constantly... I'm a massive Nintendo fan but never heard half of these...? It's better to just ignore them though. From my experience you can't judge a whole community by a certain few. OmegaForte 1,674 Posted September 3, 2015 Well this is a first. Usually what I hear is the other way around a lot more.
Setrex 1,031 Posted September 3, 2015 A lot of the examples you have mentioned are the first I've ever heard someone say that such and such is a rip off of such and such. I've never heard of Zelda and Uncharted being compared, it's always Uncharted and Tomb Raider. As for Mario Kart, I don't believe other racing games rip it off, even the likes of Sonic Racing or Crash Team Racing, I don't look at them and say, "pft total MK rip off!!" There is one on your list that I cannot argue for though and that is PS All-Stars. That IS a blatant rip off formula of what Smash does. Sony thought to themselves that they could take iconic characters from their history and use 3rd parties for promotion purposes and it would justify a good game. Sorry, but when I think of Sony I think of Spyro and Crash not Fat Princess and PapaTheRappa (or whatever). It was also a dreadful excuse for a fighting game in general and the idea was a rip off. Actually you know what.... Halo and futuristic shooters= Metroid prime ripoff > Metroid as a series came first. Metroid Prime came out after Halo. Neither is a rip off of each other.Dark Souls, Uncharted, and other puzzle games= ripoff of Zelda > As I said above. Never heard the comparisons before.Racing games= Ripoff of Mario Kart > Again as I said above.Party games= Ripoff of Mario Party > Party games aren't ripping off Mario Party. They are games based on... Party games. Mario Party is a game some remember from their childhood. So that could be why comparisons are made to newer party games.Sims and other life simulator= Ripoff of Animal Crossing > Again I've never heard comparisons between Sims and Animal Crossing, let alone people saying Sims ripped off Animal Crossing. If it ripped off AC then it would have you play in a town full of animals, no?Playstation all-stars and fighting Games= Ripoff of Smash Bros and Punchout!™ > PS All-Stars DID rip off Smash. Concept wise any ways. Popular fighting games like Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken, etc. all do not play like Smash or Punchout. I fail to see where the comparison is let alone the rip off. Punchout is a boxing game for crying out loud.Klonoa and kiddie games that featured cute characters as the main characters= Ripoff of Kirby > Klonoa is not something I would say ripped off Kirby. Far from it.2D & 3D Platformers: Ripoff of Mario Bros and Donkey Kong games > 90% of the NES and SNES era consisted of platforming. Both Mario and Donkey Kong are highly successful at what they did. Rip off? Not really.RPG: Ripoff of Mother and Xenoblade > RPGs existed well before both Earthbound and Xenoblade. Both are also niche titles. When compared to other RPGs such as Final Fantasy. In fact, I've never seen an RPG quite like either Earthbound or Xenoblade so.... The rip offs aren't doing their job right! That's like if Digimon ripped off Pokemon. (Digimon came first) > Pokemon came first not Digimon. If this thread was satire then kudos, but if it was serious then I'm not sure what to make of it as the comparisons are silly. Nintendo are a breath of fresh air in this stale market of annual releases and broken games. 2 Shulk and Hero of Winds reacted to this
Sirillia 23 Posted September 3, 2015 I don't think I've ever heard of Dark Souls being a rip off of Zelda. They're completely different games. I don't know where you find those kinds of opinions, I rarely hear about how everybody else is ripping off Nintendo. In fact, I rarely hear good things about Nintendo. Though there is certainly one game out there that was almost similar to Animal Crossing and that was Mysims.
Shulk 8,623 Posted September 4, 2015 "Every RPG is a rip-off of Xenoblade or Mother" Implying most gamers have even heard of those two series outside of stupid Smash Bros memes. And yes I'm fully aware this thread is a troll but I had to bring that up. 1 Soul Eater Evans reacted to this
outbackjim21 83 Posted September 10, 2015 The original post is making my IQ drop with each sentence read. But just so we are clear, most 3D platformers in the 90's were a ripoff of mario 64, the main company to do so was rare with games like banjo kazzooie. But honestly, rpgs ripped off earthbound and xenoblade? Didn't realize that videogames came before dungeons and dragons. And on more note, nintendo did pave the way for half almost all the games that you listed, im not saying that the ripped off nintendo, but without nintendo, those games would have not been so easily conceptualized, case and point Zelda-> any open world game from then on Metriod-> megaman
