New information from Ruliweb interview with Tetsuya Nomura: Maps from previous numbered Kingdom Hearts games will NOT appear in Kingdom Hearts III

This means absolutely nothing, even less than you think. The reason no maps are returning is because every world is open. That means one large map instead of several smaller ones. Therefore, worlds and areas that where used before can return without recycling maps, for example, Moonlight Hill in Halloween Town can return, but Halloween Town itself is one large map with Moonlight Hill just being part of it. Sneaky, sneaky Nomura.

so the "new" maps for the returning worlds that will be in kh3 are basically old maps from previous numbed games, but bigger with new areas?

I thought they meant maps as in the maps that you get of the area so you know where you are going but do they mean like areas are different what dose that even mean? so we won't be going to areas that we have been in Disney worlds from either of Kingdom Hearts 2 or Kingdom Hearts, so dose that mean we won't be going to the Coliseum in the Olympic Coliseum because if we do then that contradicts what this interview says I honestly don't get it. But I still think it is that we won't get a map like we did in Kingdom Hearts 2

That's a possibility, Nomura has a habit of playing with symantics. Before 3D came out he said all Disney worlds would be new to the series, but Symphony of Scorcery, The Grid, and Pranksters Parise where effectively extended versions of Mysterious Tower, Space Paranoids, and Monstro under different names. This, combined with them being sleeping worlds gave him the justification to call them new worlds. He likes playing word games. Always saying something, but never saying it straight.Personally, since they said most worlds would be new to the series, I'm thinking we'll only have two or three returning worlds, including Olympus Colosseum but for that minority they could still use the same areas as part of one large map. For anyone saying that Halloween Town is not coming back in KH3, look at this: Posted Image These are the other doors in Halloween Town. They can show us these worlds in KH3.

Maybe but not in KH3D, some worlds have lots of places to go, for example, Les Cite des Cloches, Country of the Musketeers and other worlds in this game 

Good point but I only use the maps while I'm in the Grid because the world design was pretty confusing. The rest of the worlds in were totally easy to get around.

I still think we can get a Dead Man's Chest world, seriously. Port Royal wasn't in Dead Man's Chest that much, so perhaps we could visit Tortuga instead.

 

Furthermore, I'd love to see a return of the Land of Dragons since that world was great. On the other hand, I would really prefer if most of the worlds are new so that the game feels fresh rather than recycling level material.

I think some are misunderstanding what they mean by new maps. we may still be getting some worlds back from kingdom hearts 1 and 2 but we are just not getting the locations in the those worlds back so twilight town had station plaza, station heights, underground passage way, and all that. those aren't coming back, we will be going to a new location within twilight town or at least thats how i understood it, especially with the Olympics reference.

That is venturing into new territory, however, they other door worlds have to be depicted in the movie before they can appear in Kingdom Hearts 3. It's entirely possible: I'm optimistic about this prospect.

 

I personally think the reason as to why "maps" are not returning is because they were designed with loading times in mind. Now that loading times have been eradicated: maps would naturally have to be designed differently to accommodate the larger scale of the worlds.

 

Alongside this, Disney movie have a new policies for their worlds: world-building. You heard me right, Disney Animation are designing their movies environment like a video game. Think about it, since Wreck-It Ralph: Disney Movies had visually distinct worlds that are large in scale. Wreck-It Ralph with Sugar Rush and Heros Duty, Frozen with Arendale, Big Hero 6 with San Fransokyo and now, Zootopia with its Zootropolis consisting of areas like Sahara Square and Tundratown. 

 

If anything, this news is good news as opposed to bad news. Be patient, you all will be surprised with what's to come.
