HarLea Quinn 26,501 Posted July 24, 2015 Have you ever pondered about society and humanity in general? Or your place in this world? Have you ever took the time to look deep inside yourself and truly understand who you are? Have you ever thought about why we are here besides just going through life's daily motions dictated by society? Do you think humanity is generally good despite the evils that corrupt our world? Are you a shrinking violet or a fierce tiger? Are you a quitter or a coaster in life? Are you merely existing or do you want to make a difference in this world? Do you have fight? I have seen the best in humanity in many of my life experiences- enough to give me hope and strength to carry on during the worst of times. I have also seen the scum and filth of humanity which in itself is disappointing and sad. The atrocities committed, the cruelty, the empty soulless eyes of the lost. I have seen pure evil. It just made me fight harder since my very nature is to roar like a lion. The abundance of pain and suffering in my life has not discouraged me but uplifted me. Because of my pain I can understand others pain. Even for those who have wronged me terribly - people who swore to love and protect me always but instead violated that very trust. I realize these people are fighting their own demons and I pity them. Pity for them not acknowledging how lost they truly are. It's very sad. You can't fix these people. They need to want to be better first. What I can do is fight to become the best person I can be and try to make any difference I can in the world. I won't be a victim but instead a warrior. A leader. I can't always control others actions but I can my own and it all starts there. I want to look back on my life one day and feel like I made a difference in the world. We need kindness. Compassion. Complacency leads you nowhere but to the bowels of society. Where do you stand? That's all up to you. I can tell you one thing though- this world has too many assholes already. We need to strive for better. Who are you? Never underestimate me. You won't be the first, or even the last. But you will be wrong. I had to let this out. http://youtu.be/34GL9_k3hZI&autoplay=1 21 Soul Eater Evans, Felicia Novita, Forever and 18 others reacted to this

Hearts Creed 142 Posted July 25, 2015 Very well thought out. This somewhat reminds me of Auron in Final Fantasy X. In his words, "I wanted to change the world, too but I changed nothing. That is my story." While Auron may not have directly changed the world, he was really the first person to challenge the seemingly needless sacrifices in order to "keep Spira safe." He knew it was wrong, and wanted to do something about it. In the end, he really did help change the world, despite being unsuccessful the first time around. He fought so that the corrupt times in Spira could be replaced with times of peace and to at least influence a better future. (I apologize to those who aren't too familiar with FFX, I just thought it might be a good analogy). Anyway, my point being that I think all we can really do is try to shape a better future where at least we have LESS assholes, because that's something that's difficult to get rid of entirely. We try to be the best we can be, and hope that at least a little bit, it'll influence others to do the same. 3 Blooming Marluxia, The Transcendent Key and luka reacted to this

Forever 3,550 Posted July 25, 2015 Hmmmm.... I have thought about this, actually....and struggled with it. Especially as a teenager in highschool. Due to my lack of friends, and struggle with school as a whole, I often felt like a failure as a person. I felt like....to be anything good, or to truly mean anything in this world, you had to achieve certain things at a certain time, do what certain people did, look a certain way, act a certain way.....Even though I had been taught not to be superficial, deep inside, I always placed my value on appearances and achievements rather than personality, or heart content. I was told that I was a sweet person, and am still told that...but......I just didn't see it, back then. Didn't feel it....to me, the outside didn't match the inside, so I felt like a puppet just going through the motions, really. My mother always tried to teach me to do the right things.....and of course, as a little kid, the world seemed perfect and whole, but it's not until I got older that her words actually began to make sense...as much as we try to block it out, the world can be a very f*cked up place....many people...hurt so much inside...and instead of bettering themselves, they try to spread the pain to others- I've never wanted to be that.....never. I rather be clumsy and kind, than seemingly perfect, yet cruel.....I've seen too many people like that- it breaks my heart.... It has taken me....a very, very, long time to accept myself the way that I am- my quirks, my shortcomings....not quite being on the "same page" that everyone else seem to be on.... But, one thing I can honesty say is that I try my hardest to be a good person. God knows I do. I fail....a lot...But growing up, building friendships, and just having different life experiences has taught me that sometimes being a little odd is fine....as long as your insides are in check. DragonMaster 1,166 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) SORRY FOR THE SUPER LONG REPLY!!! Have you ever pondered about society and humanity in general? Or your place in this world? Have you ever took the time to look deep inside yourself and truly understand who you are? Have you ever thought about why we are here besides just going through life's daily motions dictated by society? Do you think humanity is generally good despite the evils that corrupt our world? Are you a shrinking violet or a fierce tiger? Are you a quitter or a coaster in life? Are you merely existing or do you want to make a difference in this world? Do you have fight? It would be a bold faced lie for me to say I've faced any true hardship in my life, at least the type of hardship you're talking about. The only true suffering I've felt has been from within, torment born not from the malice of others but from the cruelty of my own mind. Self-criticism and hatred, delusion and denial, the results of a young, confused mind. Fear of the pain that others could cause proved to be far more painful than anything another human has brought upon me. Years of not having a single friend to my name, of not having the courage to speak my mind, of being afraid to just be like every other kid. And though I am now free from the mental torment I have described, I now must bear the weight of knowledge that nearly six years of my life were spent in isolation, the misery I should've felt only staved off by my powers of self-delusion, and that the only one to bear fault is myself. No external adversity ever affected me. My life has been easy, and all the elements for happiness were there. It was merely fear that kept me from it. Anyone that has been battered by the world, felt the pain of people and society pushing them down and had to struggle to stand back up, would be disgusted by my gross disuse of the gifts I've been lucky enough to have in my life. Yet today, here I sit, finally free from my pitiful state of those years now past. Though I may, perhaps, bear the scars (figuratively speaking), I am no longer trapped within the prison that was my mind. And now here I am, responding to these questions you pose, knowing that my "suffering" was far from the pain that many must live with as they struggle everyday to live. I'm one that just "goes with the flow." I don't much care what we do, so long as it can provide something to entertain my thoughts (within the confines of the law and the "morals" I hold). For me, there's no why or reason for anything. We're not born to fulfill some purpose, no day is meant to hold some significance. We assign our own meaning, our own purpose, which we must determine and define for ourselves. I find the idea that there is some written "destiny", some innate "purpose" to be restrictive and, frankly, depressing; perhaps more like a crutch to avoid the full brunt of reality (everything does not happen for a reason) than an actual belief. As I see it, everything happens as a result of everything else, as part of one long chain of events known as history. Every possible outcome is different for every possible action, nothing is meant to happen. All of us here are only us because of the precise timing of our conception, our birth, and due to the events that we experience. You might even say that we are all our own little miracles, though I assume that I assign a different definition to "miracle" than most. The chain of events continues in spite of any action we may take, and therefore most of the time I'm content to merely see where it leads. When necessary, I take actions to "make a difference" in my own life and the lives of those I'm close to. But to the scale of trying to, say, change the world? No, I don't have the motivation. To some, that may sound like a terrible reason, and I won't disagree. But at the same time, change cannot be forced. No one person's voice or action may change the world alone. The time must be right, all the events in the chain reaction must be making a push for that one change. And when the time for change comes, I'll do what I've always done, and ride the flow. The masses will determine what they want, and I shall either join them, or maintain a disconnection. You could say I'm apathetic, with little appetite for conflict. I believe we must pick and chose the miseries of others that we take on. There is so very much misery in the world, so much hatred, pain, and anguish, that to try and bear it all upon our own shoulders is to condemn ourselves to join the sea of misery. To contemplate the insurmountable amount of suffering that is experienced every day by so much of the human population is an exercise in self torture, because you can never heal it all. Choose, then, to do what you can, right in front of you, and hope that everyone does the same. Then, all those actions will influence the chain of events to change its course. As to humanity itself, it is neither good nor evil. It is an entity beyond such a label. Good and evil are mere concepts, invented by humans in order to make order out of the chaos that is the world. When we take into account all the influences on a person and all the factors that drive their actions, very rarely can anything be truly "good' or "evil." These labels are shallow, and do not hold up upon deep reflection. I will say this, though. We humans are greedy, envious creatures. But we're also intelligent, compassionate, and caring. We are especially susceptible to corruption, and I do believe that there are more corrupt people in the world than not. That does not mean that the compassionate, caring people are a rarity, it just means that the corruption is easier to see. Make of that (and everything that I've said) what you will. RikuFangirl2008 1,368 Posted July 25, 2015 Man... That's deep. True, but deep. You are absolutely right about you can't fix people. This world to me, is just--mad... Just full of some people that do stupid stuff. I've seen/heard such mess on TV shows my dad watch on a daily basis. All I hear is drama from the very problems people face. Sometimes my dad would call me down, to watch this, and have a discussion. Just like myself, there are people out there that are either jealous, wondering why I don't have kids and a husband, why I don't have a job yet, why I wasn't kicked out the house, etc. Just thinking about it, those type of thoughts has been following me ever since high school. Girls in school keeps telling me I need to get a man in my life, guys keep harassing me, and other types of hell I've faced in the past. As my dad tells my family, of what they taught me and my brother, they think he's controlling me. And he's not. They are still thinking that. I have had a boyfriend once, but it didn't work out between us. But I'm just not at the point of finding somebody, starting a family, etc. I'm still a college student, and soon I have to start finding a job. My father is supporting me all he can so I can become successful and not be like everybody, just struggling out there. He raised me to the point that I can make better decisions that could better me. He's proud of me because, of me not being like any other woman out there. 3 HarLea Quinn, Blooming Marluxia and The Transcendent Key reacted to this

That does not mean that the compassionate, caring people are a rarity, it just means that the corruption is easier to see. Make of that (and everything that I've said) what you will. First, I'm going to say a lot of what you wrote we can agree to disagree on bc our philosophies and ideologies differ. There's nothing wrong with that at all either. But I will point out a few things. One person CAN make a difference and we have some very monumental historical figures that prove this. Following the masses without being able to think for yourself or to not have the initiative bc, well, complacency, isn't good for anyone whether you are just looking out for yourself or for the betterment of others. Some of the worst atrocities and human suffering are the result of people not being that one voice who stood up and said that's not right. That's a very dangerous mindset to have. Because you have been lucky enough to not have had to experience some of the 'evil things", hardships, etc etc you can't grasp the concept that evil does exist. There is no other name for some of the stuff I have personally witnessed and experienced. Heck watch the news and try to tell me some of the horrendous things happening aren't evil. There is definitely good and evil in that sense. You can't allow others misery and suffering to destroy you but to also ignore it when you could do something to help isn't right either. That's why everyone must do their part to make the world better. One person can't possibly take on everything but many working together can accomplish alot You have just helped others by sharing your story. Even if the whole world is against you, even if you almost never get your way, you have the right to carve a new path for you to follow. And if you play as a good example, others may follow. ("May" is the key word.) Have you ever heard of Scott Pilgrim VS the World? That game is a symbolization of this lesson, in a way. Scott meets a girl, who he falls in love with. But the girl's ex-boyfriends (and ex-girlfriend?!) want to kill Scott for trying to take her away from them, so Scott fights for his girlfriend, no matter who he has to fight. And as it turns out, Scott's two other friends join him on his quest to defeat the evil Exes. So if you care about something a lot, and the world doesn't agree with that, you must have the guts to fight back and fight for that something. 2 HarLea Quinn and The Transcendent Key reacted to this
Shana09 5,769 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) My philosophy has been to always to do what you need to do to have the best life for yourself and with everyone else. And even when there are bad times, learn and move on. You don't have enough time to sulk around or make yourself go through pain. All you can do is move forward and make whatever situation better and always be optimistic. There are going to be stupid, smart, assholes and great people. Everyone is a mixed bag of good and bad, no one is 100% good or bad. We all have the capacity to do good and to do evil. Its just up to me to do good and never let anyone tear me down. Felixx 6,646 Posted July 25, 2015 (edited) Have you ever pondered about society and humanity in general? That's so TRUE. I'm often thinking about my place in this world, if I'm only "there" or a real part of it, and sometimes I have doubts about myself. Every day I try to be a good person, a kind one, and I'm proud to say that I achieve that almost every time, at least I think so. But of course there's that urge to make a difference in our world, to make it a better place, not just for us, but for every creature living, and to start that I begin with myself. Trying to be better every day, making the right decisions in life, and at the end of the day, be proud of my progress, that's what I want to do.One more good person in this world is a great improvement, so that's my first goal. And when I made myself a better person, a person good enough, I can try to make a difference in this world. Not like "I'll become president of the USA", but little differences, then even they have an impact on our way of living, our view of the world. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, made me really think about myself and our lives.
