How can I make a Struggle Bat in real life?

I want to know what kind of materials I need to forge my very own Struggle Bat. Although I do want to build a keyblade, I'm better off starting with how to make something a little more... 'safe' for now. (I will eventually build my own! I can be sure of that!)

 

Can someone give me some kind of instructions or list of materials I need to make a Struggle bat?

If I had to guess, the bat itself is probably some kind of foam, and the handle likely a kind of plastic.

I actually had something similar to a Struggle Bat when I was a kid. I mean it was just a thin baseball bat wrapped in foam but thats pretty much a Struggle Bat.

First of all, we need to know: how much do you want to spend on material and how heavy do you want it to be? Once that's decided, first things first, you must sketch out your idea and find its width, scale, ect.. Do you want the design to be the regular struggle bat? Or the Defense or Magic-based bats that are available? How wide is the blade? The guard? The handle? This can be found through googling and making approximate guesses. Assuming you want the standard bat, and from light googling assuming Sora (and by that logic, Roxas) are approximately 5 foot five or so, here are approximate sizes:The blade of the weapon goes to his knee and a bit above from the base of his foot, from this and his hight I can assume the size is approximately 3 and a fourth foot long, or 3"4 from my assuming Roxas' height I'm length and approximately one and a fourth-inch in width (1,4) at its base and it steadily increases it's size until about a inch from the top where it curves off, making the width at that point about probably an inch and a seventh to two inches (1,7 to 2).The guard looks to be a hair longer than the width of the blade at its base, so maybe about an inch and a fifth/sixth (1,5/1,6) wide? And the width at max is probably a half or so of an inch and gets to being like an inch and a bit so say an inch in size and it's got a bit of an upward curve on it when you look at it, and it is disk-like in shape.The handle also acts as a core as its more of a "bat" with foam padding on the outside, and as such we must act like the "blade"'s length (save it's tip, meaning we chop off a bit) is incorporated. With that in mind, it extends past the bat's wire that holds the sleeve on it, and goes into the center of the guard as well, so with that in mind, it's approximate length is 4 feet and 9ish inches.the handle itself is about a foot and four inches long approximately, and the area from the guard to the handle is the last approximate inch or so, remember this is approximate and I am likely wrong but we will presume I'm right for now until we sketch it up and make the proportions a little better. The "blade" is likely correct, and if not, we can adjust it, but as its the largest visible part, we will base the rest of the weapon's proportions on it. If you don't like the length or width, it's still in design stage and can be adjusted as we so want here.After you have your design more or less sketched up (it doesn't need to be perfect, but to a point you like) you can post here with your sketch and I'll continue helping you out.

I'm thinking about just going for the standard bat, like this one: And I want the handle (excluding the part that connects inside the blue part) to be a little over 6 inches. I will try to get something to add the hook at the end, but it is not necessary. Now for the blade part, It will most likely be 1 ft. 4 inches, like you said before. Now what I'm concerned about mostly is the curving point at the top and bottom of the blue part. What would I need to do to make the foam in that shape without having to just cut a piece into a semi sphere and "tape" it together? That seems a little tough considering you also need to cut a hole in the foam (or wrap it around the blade part of the handle) while keeping it together without it looking sloppy. I might be able to get the small circular part around the hilt. It looks like it's some sort of black/silver ring, so maybe I can get one for that.Is there some sort of foam that is sold in a shape like that? And better yet, does it come in that size?

Uh... 6 inches for the handle is a bit small, but alright... And I didn't say 1 foot four inches, I said one inch and a forth of one inch for the width of the blade and 3 feet four inch length on the blade, a one-foot blade would be the size of a ruler, not very big... It would be more of a struggle stick

 

Next, the bat itself will have an interior and exterior, the interior will be the "foam" of the foam bat, this way it's easier to color (As some paints dissolve or don't hold to foams...) than with a single layer, the second layer will be a blue fabric which will function as the visual and exterior as well as give it a smoother appearance.

 

Next, as I said, it will depend on the price range you want to keep this in. Good, soft foam that is expensive but makes it look fantastic or cheaper harder foam that is easier to work with? Also I would suggest actually cutting it into 3 separate pieces, two half-cylinder's with  a core the size of the diameter of the rod you choose to act at the center of the bat to attach it easily and then the semicircle at the top. If you decide you want to keep the foam instead of the fabric, you only need to make the pieces a bit larger than what you intend to use and then sand it down to a good shape. You're gonna need to sand it anyway to make sure it's not lumpy.
