Kingdom Hearts III trailer analysis: Do the chess pieces represent the lights/darknesses?

Recommended Posts

Okay, seriously, where's Xemnas? He has to be included in there somewhere. There's no way they would not include him.

I was hoping I would have a dream about this last night, but nothing.

The #10 in this image could represent Xemnas' Ethereal blades.

Okay guys, this is an analysis I made. Based on information from the net, from you guys and from what I've noticed. I'm sorry if my english isn't understandable. And I know the first image has a lot of information so here's the explanation: Basically, I put the name of the characters represented bu the chess pieces over the chess pieces and I put the symbols that make me think that a certain chess piece represents a certain character. I also put numbers to show you that there are 7 different "light" chess pieces on Eraqus' side possible representing the 7 guardians of light.

BTW: This makes me think that the Leopardos foreteller might be the traitor in Kingdom Hearts X.

That's the best theory so far. So this is the Org. 13:

1. Master Xehanort

2. Young Xehanort

3. Ansem SoD

4. Xemnas

5. Terranort

6. Braig

7. Isa

8. Luxord

9. Vanitas (Remnant)

10. Leopardus

11. ? [unknown star symbol? flower?]

12. ?

13. ?

The 7 Lights;

1. Sora

2. Riku

3. Kairi

4. Mickey

5. Aqua

6. Ventus

7. Terra (Lingering Will)

Of course, the chess pieces represents only the 7 lights & 13 darkness. But other people can participate too like Donald and Goofy.

I disagree with you there because Ansem the Wise has more orange eyes while Xehanort's are more golden. Plus, I don't think Ansem the Wise is much of a fighter.

Orange eyes might be slowly transitioning into golden. And I think Xehanort's darkness or whatever in him can make him a fighter

Here's the thing though, Ansem the Wise had this colour for his eyes before he even met Xehanort. While I can kind of see what you're saying about the fighter thing, I still think it would be better if Xehanort made someone who already knows how to fight into a vessel.

PLOT TWISTOn another point, does anyone else think that the raised blocks and the unusual shape of the chess board has any significance?

Okay, I know this is probably going to sound stupid, but did anyone notice that one of Xehanort's chess pieces had Vanitas's insigna on it?

Third piece on the left side:

Could mean nothing. Just thought I'd point it out!

You seem to know exactly what's going to happen in KH3 then. That's gotta be some kind of super power xD. Kingdom Hearts throws so many tricks and twists no one can confirm anything. Terra might actually be the one to fight Xehanort in the end for all we know. Don't act like you've played the game already.

Hey, I don't claim to know anything. I can just rule out what other people propose, it's kind of my thing, lol. Totally biased. X)"

But nah, my philosophy is that most of what we guess is going to happen probably won't happen. Even anything I come up with will likely get tossed by the wayside by whatever Nomura actually comes up with. It is my hope that KH3 goes in a direction that NONE of us would have anticipated, and that it is FREAKING AWESOME!  xD

Also, just a difference in opinion. It's common rule of thumb everybody likes their own ideas better, I'm no exception. But sometimes it's nice to hear a really cool idea from someone that you never even thought of before, even if you don't think it will happen or not.  :)

Lol with the way we're all speculating, I'm sure at least one of us has to be right. Or close. And you rule out what people propose? What if someone ruled out what you propose? Like you said "difference in opinion". I also want an unexpected, thrill ride of a story.

Then I rule that out and the cycle continues forever, lol. X)

But seriously, although it might be pointless in the end, I think we all have a right to propose what we want and agree or disagree with what we want. Yeah it sucks if we don't agree with anybody, but we can always just take things as they come. Plus, sometimes it's fun, lol. X)"

So I wanna take a closer look at the movements of the pieces, maybe they are hinting some future events.

In the minute 2:09 of the trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaTjCvUZjck): Xehanort says:

"On that land shall darkness prevail and light expire" Right after that, he takes one of his pieces and defeat one of Terras."The future its already been written"

Now is when Eraqus intervenes: "Who says I can't chage it? And maybe light will prevail" The other Terra's piece is shown at Sora's side, while this one takes care of the guardian (which is speculated to be very related to Terra) "There is more light than meets the eye. You might be surprised!"

"Well I hope so" The trailer ends with Soras and Xehanorts pieces facing eachother.

Would this mean that Terra will be saved by Sora, and being one of the 7 light? I was against that before the trailer, but I changed my mind. Also, there is no representation of Lea, which was speculated to be one of the lights.

Ahhh, it did occur to me that those were "Terra" pieces before now, but I didn't notice the wordplay that went along with the shots of them. Nice catch! (I've never understood why everyone thinks Lea is a Light over Terra, though, but that's just my opinion. :P )

As for the lack of Xemnas, I actually thought that those dice resembled those odd cube things that Xemnas' lesser nobodies used? It's a stretch, but it makes more sense than Luxord at the moment -- plus Luxord is more typically represented by cards, his actual weapon, than dice.

In kingdom hearts 2, there are some pieces of trophy looking objects on the ground... They seem to resemble the chess pieces in a strong way, especially with Vanitas's symbol on one of them... Connection maybe?

To continue on with our trailer analysis series, let's take a look at the chess pieces Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus are using in the

Each piece seems to have a symbol on the top, which we noticed could correspond to characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, more specifically, the seven lights and the thirteen darknesses. Thanks to Tumblr user freeshooterxig, some of these symbols have been depicted with their corresponding characters:

We also noticed that there are duplicates of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness" pieces - one to represent Ansem, and the other to possibly represent his Guardian. Also, we found two "Vanitas" pieces, possibly signifying Vanitas and the Vanitas Remnant.

Another interesting thing to note is which pieces eliminate each other. It's hard for us to tell, but one move that is certain is the "Sora" piece eliminating one of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness"/"Guardian" pieces. If you can make out any other eliminations, let us know!

We would just like to clarify that this is based purely on speculation. However, it seems too perfect in our eyes. So, what do you think of all of this? Can you depict any symbols we missed? Sound off in the comments below!

There's actually a thread in the forums on this, and this comment is the most accurate so far IMO.

Looking at the picture in the top post, here's my two cents on clearing up the differences:

-The "music note" is an hourglass, likely = YX

-The star on the upper left is more like a paopu fruit (Kairi), while the piece in the upper middle looks more like Aqua's Keyblade.

-The one labeled Kairi (above the two Guardian pieces) resembles Terra's Keychain, which is a duplicate of the one in the second picture labeled as a potential Roxas/Xion.

To sum up all that confusion between that and the forum thread I linked, the seven "good" pieces are looking like Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Ventus, Terra, and Aqua

while the only discernible "bad" pieces are MX, YX, Vanitas, Ansem, possibly Saix. I admit that one piece does look like dice, but Luxord is symbolically represented by cards, not dice. I'm holding off on committing to that one.

Thanks so much! That is a really great analysis. I totally agree about the hourglass bit, couldn't make it out before.

No problem! Everyone's done a really great job in thinking this whole hypothesis out together. ^^
