The Ramadan Thread

Recommended Posts

I think this is because of the common misconception of Muslims being offended with terrorists. You'll find all kinds of people claiming to be of a particular faith, but if they aren't practicing what their religions are teaching (whether they be Christians, Muslims, Jews, et cetera) then what does it matter what faith they belong to? It's a sensitive topic to many, and I think a lot of Muslim feel defensive because of all the propaganda out there bashing everyone of the faith and not just those extremists who have gone and done horrendous acts.

I have to agree with you. There's a lot of Muslim out there who are ignorant and, truth be told, I hate being around. But I can't say that they resemble their religion too greatly. The religion predominately teaches peace, even if some things are taken out of context.

I was once a Muslim, however I currently do not know what to label myself (I have a lot of figuring out to do in terms of religion), but I wish you all a very blessed Ramadan nonetheless. It is wonderful to see how many Muslim are actually apart of KH13; I never would've known this. This is what I really love to see: a group of various religions getting together and getting along so harmoniously. Why all the divide? I feel that we're all humans on this planet, many of which working to serve the same God, but I'm getting off-topic here.

Your post makes a lot of sense! Thank you and I hope you come to a conclusion within yourself

come to think of it I did notice there's a large number of people who support these groups mostly out of hatred for the west

I think Muslims should start a proper no holds barred debate with western leaders, because bombing campaigns aren't going to get us anywhere. Feel the love everybody!

Question, if it isnt violent then why are so many people afraid to offend muslims??

There's a difference between offending and provoking. That being said, the majority of muslims condemns the act of a few insane individuals who hijack religion to push their ideas unto other people. Just like Christianity has mortal sins, so do we. The first one is murder. So yeah.

Other than that, nothing unites like a common enemy...

I totally agree, but I never said we were amazing. The situation we're currently in has as much to do with western foreign policy as it has to do with the current generation of Muslims. Al- Qaeda were only formed in Iraq after the western invasion, and I don't hate the west, not at all, but 9/11 set back relations between Muslims and the west to the crusades, and I think all Muslims felt the repercussions. So I can understand the underlying resentment these people might have felt, but we as a community should have tried harder instead of succumbing to the ' us and them' mentality that these groups wanted us to have. I can't remember where I read this, but before 9/11 worldwide support for these groups was tiny, it only grew after.

al qaeda wasnt formed after the Iraq invasion.. And there is alarming rise in Muslims who supported the Charlie Hebdo attacks.. (Charlie hebdo is the group that makes fun of islam and mohammed)

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant to say that there was no (or very liitle) Al qaeda presence in Iraq before the war, after the war Al qaeda managed to make a base there, and saw support for them increase.

As for the Charlie Hebdo attacks, I don't know where you live but in the UK, there were large numbers of muslims decrying the attacks, and many came to the vigil for charlie hebdo. However after the attacks, incidents against muslims and mosques rose incredibly. Even though Muslims in general don't support the attacks, easily influenced youths could take the backlash personally, and go and join ISIS.

I live in America and I've asked many Muslims that I know if they think the Charlie hebdo attacks were right and they said yes.. It goes to show that we cannot express freedom of speech without getting attacked by extremists and then having majority of Muslims support those actions low-key

Many Muslims were unhappy about what charlie hebdo were doing, but they did not support the violence. If you must know, two muslims were killed in that attack by the same gunmen.

Also, freedom of speech is such an abstract  and objective concept. Does freedom of speech mean that you should be allowed to say whatever you want? No matter how racist/sexist?

I clearly remeber an incident where an american quran burner was allowed into the UK, while an Islamic scholar, who is well versed in all major religions and is not a hate preacher in any way shape or form, was not.

Are you telling me that the book burner was allowed to have those views? Was he allowed to spread unfounded prejudice?

This isn't rhetorical, by the way, This is just the flip side of the coin.

And i know that there are some Musims who support these attacks, but like someone said earlier, it's more of an 'enemy of my enemy is a friend' situation.

Also, It can't have been easy being a Muslim in America, especially after 9/11

Honestly, I'd just be wondering why you felt the need to do that, and why you'd go out of your way to offend me. Like I've said before, I do not agree with the Charlie Hebdo attacks at all. As a for you as a person, ei hardly know, you, and that's not a great first impression mate I have to say ;)

Iftar is at 9:24 for me, it's actually been a lot easier than I thought! Although it's probably helpful that my holidays have started :)
