Books My Kingdom Hearts Novel Review

Recommended Posts

I thought I knew everything there was to know about Kingdom Hearts. I've played the video game, and read the Manga. However, the novel is something that goes deeper than both of these. By looking into the thoughts of Sora and the other characters, you understand the reasoning for their actions instead of just seeing their actions. How did Leon know Sora was at Cid's shop? Does Riku think he can take care of Kairi better than Sora can? All of these questions are answered in the novel, which is beautifully written. One of the negatives I would say is the fact that the novel isn't very descriptive with environments. Basically, this novel is written specifically for people who have played the game before and know what the area's look like. If you are a Kingdom Hearts fan like me and haven't had a chance to read this, I highly recommend it.

Have you read the BBS novel as well? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

The BBS novel hasn't been released yet. The Re:CoM novel is coming in september/august I think.

Hmmm...weird- I could have sworn I saw some members discussing it months ago. More specifically, discussing that Vanitas's back story was tragic. Perhaps I have the novel confused with something else.

The manga is probably what you got confused with.

Thats the novel.

No it's the manga. It's volume 1, just never released in the US. Only two novels have been made, KH1 and Re:CoM. Re:CoM is coming to us on September 22, 2015.

I tend to not trust wiki's most of the time however it seems reliable. Though the point stands you can't read it really unless you're Japanese, also as only 2 novels being officially confirmed with release dates for English.

I know. But this proves that the Amazon link is for the BBS novel. Now that I think about it, why ISN'T there a BBS manga?! There are novels for all seven games, with two being localized, and yet there are four mangas with one of them nearing the end.

Oh, I'm going to get the chance to read Kingdom Hearts: The Novel very soon, so I can't wait for that!  And nice review you gave there, it really just makes my hype for getting the book increase ever more!  I hope all the Kingdom Hearts games get novelized adaptions!  Since we're getting Chain Of Memories, I'm sure that all the other games will be adapted into novels in the long run, right? :O

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that these were novels and not manga. I remember reading translations of the novels about Vanitas' backstory, personality, etc. Even Aaron reported that they are novels here: http://kh13.com/forum/topic/16597-birth-by-sleep-novel-vol-3-to-the-future-scheduled-for-may-26th/

You can also look in the past topics discussed and I am pretty certain that we had an announcement in the past about the novels.

Also, if it were a manga, we'd already have the scanned images probably or they would be available elsewhere to read. :)

I hated how vague it was on the worlds, too: "A lush forest". Yup..totally Deep Jungle, mmhmm..cause there totally wasn't anything else at all worth mentioning there.

And it did feel like it was supposed to be read AFTER playing the game, or at least knowing enough about it to know everything coming before hand.

But most light novels are sparse in the detail depo, so I guess that's the reason.
