Arkham a Spiritual Successor?

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking. Could the Batman: Arkham series be a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series? Like the DLC story "Cold, Cold, Heart" for example. That is heavily inspired by the infamous Heat of Ice.

I don't think so- there's no Justice League or Batman Beyond content whatsoever, and those actually are successors to TAS. Plus all the radical character redesigns, like Penguin, Scarecrow, Deadshot, etc.

The Arkham games were all written by Paul Dini (except Origins, which is one of the reasons that game is terrible), the guy who was a writer and executive producer for all the DC cartoon series from the mid-90s and onward, and a lot of the same techniques and themes come through in the games, so I don't blame you for thinking that (plus Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill don't help).

The Batman: Arkham series is a treasure trove of references to all kinds of Batman related lore as well as DC lore. It doesn't really pander to just one version of Batman, especially when you factor in the extra costumes you can wear in the various games.

HeyMouseSayCheese: I said "spiritual".

1. You can actually hit the "Quote" button at the bottom of a post to respond to what someone says, and it will let them know when you're responding to them.

2. Why would they bother with a spiritual successor when there are actual real deal successors that existed years before the first Arkham game?
