Did you know.... The original Kingdom Hearts I for Japanese did not have any difficulty modes?

Recommended Posts

The voice acting in the Japanese version was awful.

You say that and yet over in the English dub, we had inexperienced toddlers like Haley Joel Osment and Hayden Penittiere.

When you say "inexperienced toddlers" you meant to say "well known and well-received child actors", right?Anyway, yeah, I had heard this somewhere. I also like how the difficulty mode nomenclature wasn't really solidified until later, too.

Nope. They weren't that good in hindsight. Not counting experience from future games either. Obviously, they would get better with time, but in the confines of the first game? Green as hell. Only the VAs who played the Disney characters (and James Woods surprisingly lol) had the best performances.

In your opinion. Honestly, as far as child actors go, both of them did a fine job as far as I'm concerned. Sure, some lines were cheesy but that's how the dialogue was, it was no fault of the actor's themselves. They did the best with what they had and they did fine.

what u got against james woods bro

It is my opinion. I didn't think I would need to clarify that, that's why I didn't say it. I mean, it's obvious I'm not speaking cold hard facts here.

Also, they might have done the best they could, but that doesn't mean they were five star actors. Even in live-action at the time, Haley Joel struggled with acting, and the others were just kid celebrities plucked from television, so transferring from that to a video game, which is closer to a feature film than a television show, had more for them to get on board with.

The script is not the issue either, because you can still make most of the cheesiness work if you're skilled like some of the Disney actors. Even one of my favorite lines in the entire game: "You're stupid!" - Sora, is still a little on the "nyeah" side.

Either way, comparing the dub as a whole to the original audio, Japanese wins on experience alone. They even got the accents/dialects of the English-original characters on point.

And I have nothing against James Woods. I love me some James Woods. I just didn't think he'd be as good as he was in the actual Hercules movie. But obviously, I was wrong. lol

I did not know that. :D

I heard that in the original Japanese version, during the Chernabog boss fight, Night on Bald Mountain does not play, instead some other theme plays.

I also heard that none of the four secret bosses (Ice Titan, Sephiroth, Kurt Zisa and Phantom) were in the original Japanese version.

If I'm wrong on one or both of these facts, please tell me and forgive me for misinforming other people. :)
