KeybladeLordCheeseCurd 1,542 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) My older brother. He bought the games, made it so it was like he was the protagonist, wouldn't let me play it. So I stole the games from him, and won Re: Chain of Memories from him in an arm wrestling match. Exilra 393 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) It was one of the games I got with my PS2 when my parents gave it to me for Christmas one year. They got it because it said "Greatest Hit" on the top, so I decided to try it out. I got stuck early on and stopped playing it for a while, but when I went back to playing it I got hooked. I think the things that got me into it the most were the gameplay and the story. Movies798 1,358 Posted May 20, 2015 It all started years ago around August in 2002. I was just sitting on my couch until I saw a commercial about an unknown boy with a big ass key running around with Donald and Goofy. The unknown boy along with Donald and Goofy come across with many Disney Heroes and Villains while playing a beautiful song that said "Simple and Clean." The commercial made me smile real big and me my eyes widen eventually the commercial soon come to an end with these last few words, "Kingdom Hearts, for PlayStation 2, rated E for everyone." That one commercial was the sole reason why I got into the Kingdom Hearts franchise!!! One of the best childhoods of my life!!! 1 Eternalsleep reacted to this

The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted May 20, 2015 Well, when I got a detailed explanation of Kingdom Hearts 2 from a clerk at Sam's Club way back in 2006, that's when I got my first Kingdom Hearts game, but, I had actually unconsciously heard of the series before from none other than my best friend/soul brother Dennys! He had the first Kingdom Hearts, and he said it was an amazing game and fun to play, but I hadn't seen it much, so I didn't get a chance to look at the characters! But when I went to Sam's Club in 2006 and told Mom to get me Kingdom Hearts 2 as my Christmas present, that's where it all began!!! 1 Movies798 reacted to this
clatter411 75 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) This is a rather interesting story. What got me into Kingdom Hearts was the box art for the original North American release of Kingdom Hearts on the PS2. I had been shopping for a birthday present for my friend and knew that he liked video games so I had gone to Gamestop with my family in order to pick something out for him. I had been passing by the PlayStation 2 games when I saw it out of the corner of my eye. There was something whimsical and magical about it and it captivated me immediately. The dark heart shaped moon illuminating the characters, Sora looking off into the distance holding the Keyblade with Riku and Kairi around him, the dark city in the background; I was entranced! When I picked it up and examined it more closely and saw the Disney aspect of it as well I was riveted! Having grown up with Disney movies and having a growing interest in anime at the time I found my self compelled to buy the game. I was around 11 at the time and bought Kingdom Hearts for my friend even though I knew he wouldn't like it. (I know..... I was one of those kids). When he opened it he seemed surprised but not all that interested in it. But he decided to let me play it. The birthday party was set up as a birthday sleepover with a bunch of other boys from our class. I took the game into a back room with a separate TV and played it by myself for HOURS not even bothering to interact with the other boys since I was completely spellbound by this game. Once I had turned on the game and had begun watching the cut scene it was like I had entered another world. The art, music, and story were beautiful and it was the combination of all aspects of stories I had ever come to love. I was almost done with the Tarzan world when I finally fell asleep. After playing so much of it, I had completely fallen in love with the story and the characters and begged my parents to get me the game for myself. Ever since then I have been completely hooked and have gobbled up every Kingdom Hearts game I could get my hands on. TL,DR: Captivated by the box art, drawn in by the story. WakingDawn96 1,166 Posted May 20, 2015 Well if you know the story about how I got into the KH series, then you should already know this, but it all started the day the game came out. My older cousin got the game when it first came out and while visiting my family as they live out of state, and so when she took the game to my house, I allowed her to use my PS2 and TV in my room to play the game while me, my other cousin (her brother), and my sister watched my cousin play the game. It didn't take too long to gain interest in the game, and then when Donald Duck's first scene was shown, that is the moment when we all laughed like crazy and I ended up falling in love with this game. And then when I found out Simba was in the game, and me being a huge fan of The Lion King, I knew that this game was perfect for me. And it became so perfect for me that here I am today! 1 Movies798 reacted to this

Kaweebo 3,617 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) The prospect of essentially combining Mass Effect & Disney (even though, when I first played KH, Mass Effect was about five years from being made) and being able to, essentially, kind of do what I had always dreamed of doing vicariously through Sora/Riku/etc, which is to essentially 'step into' my favorite Disney films and hang out with those characters. When I got older, I started to appreciate more the themes of each game and understanding the meaning behind a lot of the series by reading interviews and thinking about it for myself, but when I first played it, the idea that 'I', playing as Sora, would get to go on an adventure with Donald & Goofy into Tarzan's world and then zip over into Agrabah was a dream come true for six-year-old-me. riku1995 121 Posted May 20, 2015 What got me into Kingdom Hearts was of course the fact that it is a disney game and I'm a huge disney fan. What also got me into Kingdom Hearts was when my older brother got the game and I watched him play it until I got my own PS2 and the first Kingdom Hearts game to play it for myself. 1 Movies798 reacted to this
Setrex 1,031 Posted May 20, 2015 The Disney side drew me in. I had absolutely no connection with the Final Fantasy series and had never played a game in the series. I remember seeing an ad on tv for Kingdom Hearts II and I just thought, that looked cool, so I asked for Kingdom Hearts II for Christmas that year it came out in Europe. I also asked for the first Kingdom Hearts so I could play both of them. Both parents ended up getting me a copy of Kingdom Hearts II.... So, my mum essentially returned one of the copies with her receipt and I picked up a second hand copy of Kingdom Hearts (also Star Wars Battlefront II!) and the rest is history. Been a fan ever since. Funny enough I almost picked Chain of Memories out when I was getting a GameBoy Advance for my birthday, but opted for Pokemon Ruby at the time. In my later years I regretted this because I could've had the Limited Edition GBA that CoM came with, but Ruby was my first Pokemon game so I didn't mind all that much. 1 Movies798 reacted to this
KeybladeMasterBalo 504 Posted May 20, 2015 In my case was very frustrating at first. I am a Disney fan and always came up with the idea that a movie starring all Disney Heroes against all Disney Villains was possible. One day at Gamestop my father told my lil brother and I to pick a game. I had not seen anything at the time but then the shiny cover art brought my attention. I reviewed the game case and found out I had im my hands the idea of all I wanted to see from Disney. I told Dad that was the game I wanted. My father said it was way too expensive since the game was just released and price was $50. I took a Spider Man game instead but I was not very convinced. I have always been too stubborn so I never left the idea I WANTED THAT GAME. I'm from Mexico so we were just visiting that time and we took off and I was left with no game. BUT! Balo doesn't accepts a no for an answer so when an uncle claimed he would be traveling to U.S.A. I stalked my father to death until convincing him to ask my uncle to bring the game for me. BEST DECISION EVER!! I passed to be a Disney fan to a Disney - Kingdom Hearts Fan and I'm really happy 1 Movies798 reacted to this

Nero Kunivas 3,046 Posted May 20, 2015 Truth be told, I had not heard of the KH Series for a long time after it came out and, if the following events hadn't happened, I still wouldn't have known about it for longer. Well, one day, in 2011 (I think), I was re-watching an old video series called "Devil May Cry: The Stupid Files" by blackmamba345(No longer active), because I really liked it and while viewing it, I paid closer attention and saw that some of the jokes involved these odd characters (Xemnas, Xigbar, Vexen and Roxas) I had never seen prior and I could tell had nothing to do with Devil May Cry. This was my first point of interest. Not long after, I learned the name of the most frequently appearing character in the Videos; Xemnas, then decided to look him up on YouTube and found a video called: "Xemnas's Greatest Moments" by AxelObsessed(No longer active) and really liked his character. I then learned the name of the series; Kingdom Hearts along with it's Disney and Square-Enix Collaboration, which really didn't bother me at all because, well, I'm odd too. After seeing some gameplay and such, I asked for the game I viewed the most: Kingdom Hearts II. Soon after, I received it, put it in my PS2 Slim......and I was in love with it the second I heard "Dearly Beloved". I played it, I loved it and I wanted more of it. So, I got a PSP and Birth by Sleep, as that was another I had viewed frequently. Played it, loved it and still just wanted more. I checked the rest of the story because I was unsure if I'd even be able to get the other games and I was captivated by all of it. I also wondered: "How is this aimed at Kids?" I also loved the look of DDD when it came out and that was when I first had trouble deciding on my favourite character. Flash to 2013 when 1.5 came out with KH1FM and Re:CoM, the latter of which never came out in the UK, I got that as soon as I could and played the hell out of them. Loved them both. I now have 2.5, loving it so far. Put simply: I haven't been a fan as long as I believe I should have been but my love for the series is just as strong. 2 Yuya Sakaki and catmaster0116 reacted to this
catmaster0116 2,676 Posted May 20, 2015 for Roxas Utada Hikaru!! I loved her music before she performed for KH. I guess I was really skeptical about KH at first with the mixture of Disney and Square characters Now I am head over heels for the music of the series lmao (Shimomura is a goddess)
JBone 30 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) My freind lent the first one to me. Then years later I saw a copy for $8 at EB, so I begged my OTHER friend to buy it for me, he did(That's how exactly how I got my copy of The World Ends With You, same store, same friend, several years later, haha.) And I was hooked. And that Christmas my older brother (It's amazing how many peoples stories start like this, haha) bought me the entire series ( which at the time was just up too KH2), even another copy of KH1, so I gave a copy to the friend who bought the first one for me. Pretty sure he never played it, lol. Edited May 20, 2015 by JBone
littleTSUBAME 483 Posted May 20, 2015 Well, I first played it when my sister borrowed the game from her friend. I had been interested in it for a while before that, though... Psychic_Ketchup 367 Posted May 20, 2015 I saw it in a store, saw it was a blend of Final Fantasy and Disney, and 12 or 13 years later, here I am still playing the series.
