Smash Bros...yeah...I need a mentor...

Recommended Posts

As the title probably implies, I play Smash Bros for 3DS, but I get my ass handed to me a crapload of times when playing against real people. I now realize something...I need a mentor...I suck playing Smash Bros competitively...in fact, just playing against people in general I suck. Anyone willing to help me? Please?? I wanna enter this tournament that occurs during a special event my city holds...last year, it was a Mortal Kombat tournament, this year, it's Smash Bros for 3DS. Winner gets a secret prize, which I hope is something of use to me.

If your first question is what my main is, I don't exactly have one seeing as I jump around with Little Mac, Greninja, Fox, and Mii Fighter (Brawler).

The secret prize? It isn't a secret. They revealed the prize some hours ago. Also, if you wanna win, play as Kirby and spam his down special at foes.

imo, villager and little mac are your best bet. just don't use mac's side special if you're not used to him.

Just don't use Little Mac's side special flat out. I've died so many times because of that abomination.

I believe you can win with every character if you play enough. I would say choose your favorite because I did just that and I managed to win a few times in multiplayer. Not sure how much I have improved since then but I'm certainly better just by playing with an AI.

My #1 flaw remains the same though.

Whenever I battle with too many people, I often forget who I am and end up killing myself by accident.

(Happened so many times.)

Anyway, since I doubt you have enough time till the tournament I would suggest learning how to use Meta Night REALLY effectively.

He is OP but only if used correctly. If you can't control him, you'll end up killing yourself in the process.

If you can't master him then I don't know what else to suggest.

I don't know which character is better than the other since I play with all of them effectively enough.

My favorite is Zero Suit Samus though, since she moves fast and can deal quick damage.

I used to suck horribly at Super Smash Bros until I was mentored myself, and even then I'm not the greatest at it.  My advice would be to try out all of the characters, find one that suits your style best, and stick with it.  Master that character's special moves, and aim to avoid your opponent's attacks whilst, at the same time, trying to knock them off the stage.  Dodging attacks will probably be one of your best defenses, truthfully, and I found that I survive much longer--and fight more efficiently--when I make sure to do this.  Some characters that I've found to work really well are Meta Knight, Kirby, Toon Link, Lucina, Robin, Captain Falcon, and Shulke, but it really depends on your fighting style and what works best for you.

I'm pretty good at Smash, but I'm not the best,I also need to improve a lot,but still here's some advice. I'm not sure how you play Smash, but if you usually use items, turn them off, items are random and don't really require skills to use them affectively, also avoid stages with too much hazard like Wily Castle or Brinstar, relying on the Yellow Devil or Lava to win won't help you improve in the long run. Whether they are aware or not, people usually have patterns when they play smash, random exemple if you block, your opponent might instinctivly always try to grab,so you can take advantage of that and punish them especially if your opponent is Link or Samus,so you should always try to analyse your opponent to see if can find one of his patterns then exploit it. When you're knock out of the stage and you're trying to recover, 99% of the time, you should try to grab the ledge of stage first rather then directly get on the stage, grabbing the ledge is a safe option.

Also,I'm pretty sure you can find guides on youtube to show you how to play Smash.
