New Evolved Keyblade for Sora in KH3 and beyond [May contain spoilers]

Recommended Posts

Birth By Sleep basically explained that the keyblade that Sora obtained in the first game was originally promised to Riku by Terra. However, because Riku had subcomed to darkness at the time, it was drawn to Sora in his stead. And thus since it was not intended for him, wouldn't it make sense for Sora to gain a new weapon that WAS meant for him...........My logic behind this being that Riku obtained Soul Eater as a starter blade, which eventually transformed into Way to the Dawn in KH2 because by that time he had begun to quell his own inner darkness and proved himself worthy of what had been promised to him.The story behind Dream Drop Distance was Sora starting to realize that even though he possesed an all powerful weapon, he as a Keyblade wielder was simply just ordinary compared to those around him. This amongst many other reasons is why I believe Sora should obtain a new or slightly evolved weapon in the next game to truly mark the progression/evolution of his character into someone who not only depends on his friends to be his strength, but is also someone who has a power that didn't necessairly come from someone else but from within. ( It's only thanks to having Ven's heart residing within him that he can even wield the Keyblade at all. ) So, any opinions on this? I'd be intrested to hear other thoughts.

Although that be pretty cool, I highly doubt it since the kingdom key has kind of become his iconic weapon! Plus is true that Sora was only able to wield the keyblade thanks to Ven however after Sora confronted Riku insight hollow bastion the keyblade chose him as its master! Hense sora doesn't required Ven's help to wield the keyblade, just to dual wield. However that's another story!

Actually Ven's Heart is the reason Sora can Dual Wield, Sora has his own Keyblade dude

the only way Sora will get a stronger version of the Kingdom Key is if they do what they did in BBS, Aqua has Rainfell as her Starter, but towards the end of her story she gets Stormfall, which is like an upgraded Rainfell, that's the only way it'll happen, Sora's Kingdom Key is his keyblade, its iconic with the series, they won't change it

Sora should keep the Kingdom Key for exactly the reason of the mismatched owner. It wasn't originally supposed to be his, but he has long since MADE it his, original target notwithstanding. It might pale in comparison to the extravagance of the others' keyblades, but that makes sense for Sora: he looks plain, but he's the one who actually gets things done. Same with the Kingdom Key. It's the original real deal, and its the one you want when things get serious.

I'm all for Sora having an upgraded/evolved KINGDOM KEY, but as for replacing it with something else? No way, not for me. So Sora's Keyblade wasn't originally meant for him, so what? The point is that despite how ordinary he is, he has displayed time and again that he has his own strength. He may state that his power comes from his friends, but that power has become his own once he has it, and he has been able to use it to become his friends' power as well. And that's what makes him and the Kingdom Key such a perfect fit. He may not have created that power on his own, but once he got the shared strength from his friends, it was his for life. The Keyblade, I believe, works much in the same way. It may not have been Sora's to begin with, but once he proved himself it was his and no other's. Despite what many fans think of Re:Coded, it actually brings up a good point about Sora's personality. Data-Riku put it best when he said that Sora is "like a sponge, soaking up the pain, squeezing it out, and leaving things a little better." The same applies to his strength I believe. Now even though his ownership of the Keyblade started out as a "borrowed possession", Sora has proved time and again that he has made that power his own. As far as I'm concerned, the Kingdom Key IS his Keyblade. There's no need for him to "find what he was 'truly' meant for", there's nothing wrong with what he has. He shouldn't have to find a new weapon to feel special, he's already stated why he feels special enough, that he's a small part of a growing force of good to protect the worlds and make everyone happy again.

Long explanation-short: If it's not broke, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT.

You can make it better and stronger than before, but don't try to throw in a whole "self-discovery" thing about finding his individuality when clearly he already knows himself well enough to be absolutely fine with being the Keyblade's second choice, being a small part of a bigger force, being "ordinary". It's the fact that he's like you or me when you get down to it that makes him so much more interesting of a character for me. How someone who without any sort of special form of angst or longing in his past can still be strong in his convictions and think for himself BY thinking about others is a pretty unique trait for me to find in his character. Some people may say that he's just too happy-go-lucky and "chosen-one-esque", but really I see someone who has made their strength without having to put themselves through a inner journey that characters like Riku has, just by being himself and true to his feelings. It may be a bit too ideal for every average Joe to be able to do that without some sort of major shift in their lives or personalities, but it's still a pretty inspiring thing to aspire to.

....okay, even longer-short/long explanation-short: The Kingdom Key IS and always will be Sora's true Keyblade...but it should also get upgraded, because upgrades are cool and fun to look at.

Maybe one for Riku's Way to the Dawn too. And maybe Mickey's Star Seeker/Kingdom Key D? Maybe? It's a bit of a tougher nut to crack since he's been a Master for years and not once have either key changed form, so maybe there's more to being of Master rank? If that's the case, maybe Kairi can one day evolve her Destiny's Embrace, but I wouldn't count on that being in KH3, because really we just need to get more used to seeing her use the dang thing.

EDIT: Left this out by accident. Nomura confirmed that it's NOT because of Ven's heart that Sora can wield the Keyblade. However, it IS because of Ven's heart that Sora can wield TWO Keyblades. The rule is one Keyblade per heart, and the Kingdom Key went to Sora because of HIS heart, not Ven's.

I don't think he should. Why? Because Kairi told him "don't ever change" While he never actually agreed, he seems to be the kind of person who would take that to heart and Limit form can be seen as a way of respecting Kairi's wish. If a Keyblade is a reflection of it's wielders heart (as seems to be implied) then a change in the Kingdom Key would signify a change in Sora's heart, effectively going again Kairi's wishes
