Nomura reveals that the Kingdom Hearts series will be expanding onto smartphones + more announcements coming

Recommended Posts

The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly magazine has included an interview with Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series. While the interview focuses on other Square Enix projects, mostly Dissidia Final Fantasy, Nomura has mentioned that the Kingdom Hearts series will be expanding to smartphones and he has more announcements coming soon. In addition development is progressing well for Kingdom Hearts III and they will be able to reveal more soon.

Thanks go to blog.esuteru.com for writing it up, @aibo_ac7 for summarizing it and goldpanner for translating it. The full translation of the interview summary can be read below.

Tetsuya Nomura interview. "(about KH) There are interesting things being planned. There'll be various things, I think, like information on KH3. KH3 development is coming along well, but I also have other new announcements connected to that. I think I'll be able to announce one of them before long: an expansion of the series onto smartphones."

"More announcements coming soon.""Will reveal more soon."Their definition of "soon" is like a lifetime. xD And the smartphone idea is, well smart for lack of a better word. I'd just enjoy a non-canon KH iOS/Andriod game to play on the go without worrying about the complex story, regardless of how awesome it is.Peace!

As much as I love them, yes, they can take awhile. Worth it though!

Oh yeah, for sure! :) And just think how worthwhile it will be to finally obtain Kingdom Hearts III and play through it. I know when that time comes, I'm locking myself out of the internet until I'm done with the story. xDPeace!

Personally I'm more excited for Toriyama's game and FFXV but yes, definitely.

Don't let it be chi and let it be a non cannon thing, I wanna play chi but not on my cell phone I would rather play it on the computer or almost anything but an IOS or Android device. Depending on what it is though I might check it out

I don't mind this too much, despite how I despise mobile gaming. Maybe KH will be the series to change that for me; because knowing Nomura, whatever it is, it will be canon and contain vital plot information.

To be honest, I think the series is best when it tries to be canon, it kind of gives it more of a reason to stick around longer. Seeing how Chi is story driven now and it will have to be preserved for posterity, odds are they'll need a format that it can continue in for others to play. Whereas Mobile ended after about more than a year of service and it wasn't that big of a blow to anyone who used it...namely Japanese fans. Either way, whatever it is, I wouldn't mind having some canon and vital plot info being included in it, it's more fun for me that way.
