Dissidia likely coming to PS4, Team Ninja developing, Hazama producing

Recommended Posts

In tonight's Dissidia Final Fantasy press conference some massive news have emerged.

Dissidia Final Fantasy is being developed on a custom-built PlayStation 4, with the arcade joysticks even featuring PlayStation buttons.

Square Enix has confirmed Dissidia Final Fantasy will remain exclusive to arcade systems for at least one year.

Koei Tecmo's Team Ninja is working with Business Division 4 to develop the game.

As expected, Ichiro Hazama is serving as producer as he did for Dissidia 012 on PSP.

I know you're usually pretty good about posting where you get your info but is there an article that says so?

Oh, I'm not using an article, people were tweeting from the conference.

Dissidia Final Fantasy will be released in Japanese arcades this Fall. A PS4 port of a more complete version of the game is highly likely to celebrate the series' 30th anniversary. The director has also been revealed as Takeo Kujiraoka, he's been a battle planner/designer for the Dissidia games on PSP and the FFXIII trilogy. Dissidia 012's director, Mitsunori Takahashi's role is currently unknown.

It's either that or you pay for a shit ton of DLC and go through patches galore.

I'll take the second option. I'm sorry, but I think an FF game with such a glorious concept and graphics belongs only on consoles.

So a bunch of news about the new dissidia came out and I figured it would be pretty nice to have it all in one place

So first of all the big stuff:

  • It's being developed by Team Ninja
  • Over 50 characters planned (Including DLC Characters) (Not entirely sure about this one)
  • PS4 version is very likely, they're already developing it using the PS4's tech
  • Ramza from FF Tactics has been confirmed

Posted Image

  • Midgar Stage has been confirmed, going by the end of this video: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/DFF/video/top.mp4
  • The brave system used in the original looks like it will still be in place
  • You will be able to use Summons as a 4th Party Member

To be fair, fighting games such as Tekken and Street Figther (among a bunch of others) first see release in Arcades before eventually hitting consoles. Arcades are still a thing in Japan and even the upcoming Pokken Tournament is seeing an arcade release before the blatantly obvious Wii U release.

You can't claim that the game deserves to belong only on consoles when the gameplay videos you've seen are from the arcade version. I know it's being built on parts of the PS4 system, but come on how exactly does this change anything? It'll eventually come to the PS4 in the west and in Japan, but for now people in Japan get to test the game in arcades to make sure that Square Enix deliver a good experience on console for everyone else.

If the game was only being developed with the Japanese market and the arcade scene in mind then you'd had a valid argument of concern, but that isn't the case and clearly was never the case because we know it's being made with PS4 also in mind.

Exactly, and as I said the PS4 version will be much more complete.

Well opinions are like noses. Everybody's got one.

The first two Dissada games never hit arcades. We also still don't know for certain if this game will hit PS4. Don't get me wrong, I've supported Square on a lot of things, but if this doesn't come to PS4 it will be one of the most silly things they've ever done. It makes even more sense to come straight to PS4 considering it's being built with it in mind...

Yes, and Japanese people prefer to games on smartphones and in arcades. :P

You're right they never went to arcades, but the PSP was a huge system in Japan. They could afford to make a game for it and see how it'd do. It was a success so they made another. The Vita will never reach the level of success the PSP had and clearly Square Enix is aiming high to give us a good fighting game on consoles/arcades. It also looks glorious seeing the characters in bright vivid scenarios (something that wouldn't look nearly as good on handhelds). The game hasn't been announced for PS4, but it has been referenced so why bring it up if it isn't in development for it? Would Sony even allow that? They use arcades for a number of reasons and it's understandable why that is the platform of choice for the game to first come to.

What makes you think there won't be DLC after the console release?

I believe there's a good chance there will be. Like characters, outfits, areas etc. And fair enough too. But I said "shit ton". Like expansion pack level DLC. Like paying $30 to add FFXV content.

Might as well wait for a "definitive" edition...
