Why Kingdom Hearts Remixs and DDD aren't on PSN and Eshop?

Like what?

Utada Hakaru's songs, the Jungle Book, and I imagine some other licensed stuff that isn't directly owned by Disney. It's simply not in the original terms for them to use those assets digitally

Can they just remove the songs?

Maybe but then was have complete silence with the opening and endingsIt'll be fixed by the time KH3 comes out, Sony and Microsoft want all PS4/XBOX games to be available digitally. They'll have to work out a new deal or get another singer.

If they can't come to a deal with Utada that's the only choice, besides not having a song at all.

i know that you edited your post, but im going to make my joke anyway. The only way i can see them cuming to a deal with utada, is if she gives them all of her songs free of charge.

Not necessarily, they just have to renegotiate her contract to include digital songs and offer additional compensation. Of course, it's really Disney IIRC, that needs to shell out. they where the ones she got into it with.

they remade KH1 and KH2's soundtracks for the remasters, I think they could get replacement music for the intros made if they really wanted to

problem is it's not just Utada music, things like the Jungle Book also present legal problems

Deep Jungle is from Tarzan, and that's not really an issue. After all, the Estate of Edgar Rice Burrows didn't make them remove the world from the 1.5, they just can't use it in new games. (I.e, games that aren't remasters/ports of KH 1)

they have the right to distribute Tarzan on disk, but the license was created before digital distribution was considered, and that would lead to a hole in the contract, and obviously they wouldn't be able to amend it because Disney isn't the rights holder

I'd assume there's a similar musical issue with any credited Disney song, so the Little Mermaid, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Pirates of the Caribbean songs

none of those contracts would have dealt with digital distribution.

Though those ones could probably be worked out, since Disney stil owns the properties. Just probably not worth the effort for the guaranteed low sales of a remaster

Disney was allowed to release a Digital HD version of the film when the Special Edition came out last year though. I believe Disney has the rights to use what they've already made in any way they wish, they just can't build on it anymore. They've also released Digital HD versions of Peter Pan and The Nightmare Before Christmas (both of which say "characters used by permission" when you boot up a KH game) so I think it's safe to say they have digital rights to all worlds that have been in the games. Besides which, Disney has already givenot Square blanket permission to use any and all Disney properties in KH3, which would include music, and as KH3 will be on PS4 and XBO, this means digital rights as well. If they're willing to do that for a game that's still in early development, why not games that have already proven successful? Edited by Isamu_Kuno
