Sora96 17,256 Posted February 25, 2015 Yosuke Matsuda, the President of Square Enix has confirmed they will continue porting their mobile games to other platforms. He points out PS4 & PS Vita in particular. They also port mobile games to PC. Square Enix's mobile divisions mostly use Unity which makes porting to almost all other platforms easier, with the exception of 3DS. Deadman's Cross, Rise of Mana and all four Chaos Rings games are available on PS Vita while the iOS/Android HD remasters of Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV are available on PC. Likely games to be ported in the future include Mevius Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. 4 Soravids, WakelessDream, SolomonDob and 1 other reacted to this

twilight_roxas 326 Posted February 26, 2015 The mobile divisions only use Unity. Well I guess the company that help remade FFIII, and FFIV could remake FFIV: TAY for the 3DS from the ground up.

Matrix Software did The After Years 3D remake as well. And no, that would be a waste of resources and they're busy working on Tokita's new game. hatok 6,413 Posted February 26, 2015 It doesn't support Unity. they could port it over to another engine...
Sora96 17,256 Posted February 27, 2015 they could port it over to another engine... They clearly don't want to though. They've expressed zero interest in porting games to 3DS, only PS4, PS Vita and PC.
hatok 6,413 Posted February 27, 2015 They clearly don't want to though. They've expressed zero interest in porting games to 3DS, only PS4, PS Vita and PC. yeah, but the reasoning isn't simply because it's on a different engine. By that logic FF4 would never have been ported to phones in the first place
Sora96 17,256 Posted February 27, 2015 Then what would be the easiest way to port TAY without the unity? There's nothing to suggest they're.

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 13, 2015 3DS might not but New 3DS. http://nintendoeverything.com/new-3ds-getting-unity-support/ About time. But the market share is very low for New 3DS.
twilight_roxas 326 Posted April 13, 2015 About time. But the market share is very low for New 3DS. So that means the FF games that were on Ios that supports unity could work on the New 3DS. Same thing with the Wii U, and 3DS but now there selling better so it might take a while.

Same thing with the Wii U, and 3DS but now there selling better so it might take a while. I doubt there'll be enough market share with the New 3DS to justify porting downloadable ports of old games, especially since Nintendo hasn't really shown much of an aggressive push with must have exclusives so far. They'd be better served just porting the original versions over. GBA and DS on Wii U, to be specific

The After Years I guess, but platforms like PC, PS Vita and PS4 are a higher priority than the small number of fans with New 3DS. It doesn't really make sense for Square Enix to make a New 3DS exclusive unless Nintendo paid them a sum of money, which is unlikely.
