A year after the Black Rebellion, Lelouch vi Britannia has claimed his rightful place to the throne with multiple followers. On the year of February 3, 2018, Zero and the Black Knights formed an alliance with Schneizel el Britannia and Nunnally vi Britannia in one final war against the usurper. Unable to defeat him, the vast majority were publicly executed as a warning to those who would oppose, along with "Zero". Nunnally herself was spared despite being a potential threat to the throne, under Lelouch's direct orders. Holding an iron fist against those who would appose Briattania, the world's can forces no longer compete against a powerful empire. The only thing suspicious about the ruler was his ability to coerce anyone to say anything, even going so far as to humiliate the Black Rebellion founding members in public. Quite distraught, two young members research the location of a top secret mission of the Black Knights, exterminating a Geass factory civiliazation,  in order to discover some measure of truth and, possibly, a way to change the world.

There two Knightmares near the cave entrance, clearing out the rubble. The pilot of the first called over to the second, "Yo, Dylan. How's it going on your end?" via the phone he had installed in his Knightmare. Not that Dylan could see Athan right now, but he was somewhere in his early 20's, with brown hair, yellow eyes, a smile that always seemed oddly sympathetic, and was of a normal height. He was wearing the normal outfit of a Black Knight, as fractured as it was now. He patiently awaited a reply as he continued moving the rocks.

 "Kinda good, I think I'm making an entrance. We might have to get off our mechs to fit, though." the other boy replied on his speaker, tossing out rubble. Dylan previously had clean, combed short black hair, yet it grew to be messy and oily upon the defeat of the Rebellion against Lelouch. I'll kill him myself, I swear it. Creating a hole deep enough, he opened his cockpit and leaped out, falling face-flat on the floor. "Curse my lack of exercise." Being a back-liner missile expert, Zero never gave him much time in the front lines, much less actual combat training. The heck kind of leader was he, anyway. Phoning in his comrade, he slid into the gap. "Hey Athan, get over here. Anymore clearing, and the tunnel will collapse." Scouting ahead, the city was in ruins. Crumbled buildings and dried blood were all to be seen.
