Sora96 17,256 Posted February 7, 2015 Do you play video games with subtitles on? 2 WakelessDream and Gregorylepe reacted to this
HeyMouseSayCheese 1,133 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Never, if I can avoid it. It completely firetrucks up the immersion for me (unless it's some alien language or whatever, like in KotOR). It's the same reason I can't watch subbed anime. (That's something I really appreciated in DDD, by the way- the ability to actually enjoy cutscenes!) Shulk 8,623 Posted February 7, 2015 Yeah, just in case there's some weird word/name I wouldn't quite catch otherwise.

Huh, I never considered that. So one of the things I liked most about DDD was only due to technical limitations. Great.
Skhyatze 165 Posted February 7, 2015 Yeah. For some reason they get me more involved in the story.
Ceriraye 485 Posted February 7, 2015 Yep I do, always. It's easier for me to follow what the character are saying that way.
Isaix 924 Posted February 7, 2015 Yes,for some reason, I always have subtitles on
Aqua7KH 5,395 Posted February 7, 2015 Hell yeah. KH made me loved putting on subtitles in games. I always put on subtitles in every game. It also helps me follow along with the story. As for movies... Hell no.
juma086 263 Posted February 7, 2015 Yes, because my mind processes things better when I read rather than through just hearing people talk.
Rinax 473 Posted February 7, 2015 Eh, sometimes. Although, it really depends. I prefer KH cut scenes without subtitles because I feel they're too big. But only one game had the option without cheats. I also tend to stare at the subtitles instead of the actual scene, which I hate. 1 HeyMouseSayCheese reacted to this

I want to watch what's going on, but my eyes are constantly drawn to the bottom 10% of the screen.
Javelin434 3,164 Posted February 7, 2015 I do just in case I miss a word/can't hear then talking over the background noise/has a heavy accent.
Philip Ellwell 5,487 Posted February 7, 2015 Only if i'm forced *cough* Kingdoms Hearts ps2 *cough* Most of the time all they do is make my eyes water trying to focus on the game and not the subtitles text running across the bottom of the screen. Movies798 1,360 Posted February 7, 2015 Of course. It doesn't bother me.
Aile 273 Posted February 7, 2015 Always. English is not my first language, so sometimes I have a hard time to hear what they are saying, but I always want to play videogames/watch movies in English because my language sucks. So I'm used to reading subtitles and I can focus on both the subtitles and on what is going on.
MarkXIIII 106 Posted February 7, 2015 I never saw the point of having mandatory subtitles in English if the spoken langugae is English. They don't subtitle movies in theaters either.
Arya Stark 1,337 Posted February 7, 2015 Always for video games. Movies/shows not so much, but I always do it for video games. Helps me be sure of what's going on.
Sorarocks93 678 Posted February 7, 2015 Always, that's why I love it when games have mandatory subs.
Katy10nt 20 Posted February 7, 2015 Yeah I always do, For Cutscenes
WakingDawn96 1,166 Posted February 7, 2015 Yeah, subtitles come in handy for cutscenes so I can see what they are saying when it sometimes is hard to understand them, like in KH with Donald Duck.
Dave 5,715 Posted February 7, 2015 Yes, mostly just because I like to make sure that I'm getting all the information I need. Sometimes you mishear things, or for one reason or another, you don't have the volume up.
naminé 26 Posted February 7, 2015 Yes, I usually have them on.
Kello 310 Posted February 7, 2015 I am pretty decent with English, but subtitles are never bad for me.
