Fates Chance XIII 307 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) My first KH game was the original Chain of Memories for the GBA. Technically it wasn't mine though, it was my sisters copy; thus I was only allowed to play it when she let me. I was never able to finish it on her copy before she got rid of it, only getting about to where Axel frees Namine. My first impressions then were really positive. I actually really liked the gameplay because of how different it was from anything I had tried to that point. I didn't know it was a sequel, so I was constantly trying and theorizing what was going on and who these people were. I thought it all was a great mystery to try and figure out just what the heck had gone on in the games past and what was going on now. I didn't know anything about what was going on, and that made things really awesome when I was a kid. It was the first time I REALLY started to think of a game or story analytically, which led to some crazy theories back then! But this game made me realize at the time that the fun of playing a game or reading a story didn't stop at the surface of what the game presented. The real fun for me now is actually analyzing, theorizing and trying to figure things out in the created world. Looking at it now, I find it funny that I never saw it as a dark game. Now when I play CoM, I get the tragedy and the sadness of it all. When I was a kid, I seemed to not have noticed. I remember for some reason at the time thinking incorrectly that 1, Vexen was a girl, and 2, that he was in charge of everyone else. I don't know why I thought this, but it made those moments when he was being threatened by Marluxia and then killed by Axel all the more dramatic and tense. You can also imagine my shock when I played Re:CoM and found out both these things to be false. More so about him not being a girl though, that genuinely shocked me for some reason....I remember pausing the game at the time and looking it up online just to be extra sure HAHAHAH   !!! I thought the introduction of Disney characters was novel and really unique. I had never watched the nightmare before Christmas so I actually thought the plot in the game was what the movies plot was like. Again, rude awakening when I actually saw it but what ever. This game was also the first time I had ever encountered a cuss word in a game. I was young at the time and remember thinking, 'OMG DID HE JUST SAY THAT??!!??' I also remember trying to rationalize it like thinking, 'Maybe he didn't mean it' or something cause I was still at the point where I thought anyone who cussed had a terrible character. And I remember really liking Axel in this game (again, me not realizing how dark it was.) and not wanting my fav character to be bad. He is also the reason I'm really into KH at all. I stopped following KH after that game for a few years, and didn't even remember the title. But Axe was so memorable in my mind that years later, I would find myself bored, watching my sister and her friend playing KH2 and seeing a familiar red head clapping and introducing himself to Roxas. I remember jumping and saying, 'Its HIM! Its that guy, what is he doing here?! What is going on?!? Can I play?' And the rest of my obsession is history. Its actually ironic, because the first line that got me really back into KH was Axel saying, 'Don't you remember? Its me, you know, Axel.' To this day I still cant believe how perfect that reintroduction to this series was. What about you guys? Don't be afraid to give long answers, I really wanna read about other peoples exps and how you felt getting your first taste of this series. Exiblade7 1,917 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) well when I played kingdom hearts 2 when I was little, it became one of my favorite video games of all time. I never seen a video game use Disney characters in it before. I loved mashing the button to attack and I somewhat still like doing that today. Today, BBS is my favorite kingdom hearts game and kingdom hearts 2 is right behind it. . Edited January 31, 2015 by Toon Link
Deadpool 1,200 Posted January 31, 2015 I played the KH3D demo and thought it was terrible. Then I got goaded into actually buying it liking it a little bit better and tried out the other games which I ended up liking a lot more.
Psychic_Ketchup 367 Posted February 1, 2015 I saw KH1 in a store sometime before christmas, and saw it was "Disney meets Final Fantasy". 10 year old me hadn't played many games until then, except for the copy of Final Fantasy X that came with our PS2. So I begged my parents and I got it. They were very confused when I started it up and Simple and Clean started playing over a slightly surreal cutscene. I didn't care (or understand much of the details), but I've been hooked since.
Dracozombie 4,554 Posted February 1, 2015 Chronologically, my first impression of my first KH game (KH1) was in a commercial. I mistook Simple and Clean's lyrics to say "Please, obey me," and so I thought Sora was some kind of master of the Disney universes. After that, the only thing that interested me in it at the time was getting to see Cloud. Yeah, I was one of those "Disney and Final Fantasy should not" mix types. I'm glad I saw the light (har har). Forever 3,550 Posted February 1, 2015 *Me as a 7/8 year old, Looking at the cover of KH1 after mom brings it home from the rental* "That's a bad game!" *After playing for the first time* Mom, can we play that game again? Mom, can we play Kingdom Hearts today? Mom, can we play? Mom, can we? Mom, how about that game? Mom, mom, mom! 1 Master Eraqus reacted to this
BlankShell 638 Posted February 1, 2015 Original Kingdom Hearts. I remember being really bored at first with all the island gameplay... then everything goes to hell and I realize how sad and tragic the entire series is going to be. That's when I was hooked. WakingDawn96 1,166 Posted February 1, 2015 By some miracle, my cousin got the first game and came to my house the day it came out and I allowed her to play the game on my TV and PS2. So you had me, my cousin, my cousin's brother, and my sister in my room all at once watching my cousin play the game. It only took until the first scene at Disney Castle that I knew I needed this game in my life. It was everything I could ever wish in a game bundled into one. It had Disney characters, a fun full fledge story, and was just a game that I could really get myself into playing. So my first impression with it is what I still feel today in the fact that I have always loved the series with a true love and it deserves my number one favorite game series of all time right next to Pokemon, as Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts share the same number on my list. Shard the Gentleman 2,891 Posted February 1, 2015 I was shocked, because I wasn't expecting something so good. I was... like 8, I think. or 7. I'm not sure.
KeybladeMasterBalo 504 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) I was 11 on that time. I remember my dad told us to pick a game and I was sort of just attracted by the shiny cover of KH. I picked the game and understood that it was something about all disney characters alltogether. I wanted it so badly but my dad said it was too expensive. I had to pick another game (spider-man 2 meeh). So two weeks later an uncle was going to go to the game store and I begged my dad for the game. He finally agreed and 2 days later I finally got it. I was so excited and started playing it and then... BAM! I DIDN'T LIKE IT AT FIRST!! I was like... i begged for this?? But then I kept playing and evrrything changed... I was wondered and forever hooked to this amazing game Edited February 1, 2015 by KeybladeMasterBalo

The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted February 1, 2015 Well, let me tell you, I've had quite a wonderful experience with the Kingdom Hearts series! I remember my first Kingdom Hearts game being Kingdom Hearts II, way back in 2006! I had gone to Sam's Club with Mom, and she had told me to pick a game, and when I saw the cover of Kingdom Hearts II, I was intrigued, and I remember asking the clerk about the game, and she had explained the concept, but told me that I wouldn't understand much if I hadn't played the first game. I didn't care, because I wanted it anyway, and so, Kingdom Hearts II ended up being my Christmas present of 2006! I was so excited to play it! But good lord...when I started playing, I was immediately drawn into the game's world. The colors, the music, the mystery of it all! And the fact that there were Disney characters in the game made me become even more intrigued! As I played through the game, I'd find myself in awe with the flashy combat while battling the many battles Sora and friends had along their journey, and seeing so many familiar Disney faces really did it for me! It was because of Kingdom Hearts that I found out about The Nightmare Before Christmas, and in fact, because of Kingdom Hearts, I was drawn into the Final Fantasy series! Since the game had Final Fantasy characters, I was curious as to who those people were, and well, thanks to Kingdom Hearts, I got into Final Fantasy! And well, after finishing Kingdom Hearts II, I felt so accomplished, and then I became obsessed with the series and needed to have every game in the series! I remember that my next two entries were KH1 and Chain Of Memories for the Game Boy Advance! I then remember getting Re:Chain Of Memories as my Christmas present of 2008, and from 2009 and onward, I pre-ordered my KH games and got them on their respective release days! As the years passed, I witnessed how all the games connected together to form a much bigger story filled with tragedy and adversity, and well, it's been a hell of a ride! So yeah, to this day, I have played every single Kingdom Hearts game, including the HD ReMixes, and I do not regret picking up Kingdom Hearts II all those years ago. Because of Kingdom Hearts, my life changed for the better, and my eternal love for this amazing video game series began. I've been a Kingdom Hearts fan for nine entire years, and I'm proud to say that I'll always remain a fan to this video game series, because it is my favorite video game series of all time! 1 Fates Chance XIII reacted to this
Drones 58 Posted February 1, 2015 Well when I first played Kingdom Hearts in 2002 I was living it. I think I saw the game in these cheap Disney magazines that ran out of stock 7 years ago. I thought the game was amazing and to be honest, it was. They introduced a boy named Sora along with Final Fantasy X characters (a game I played the same year) and then started showing Donald Duck and Goofy. So I thought I would be very familiar with the game but man was I wrong... the title doesn't really give a hint as to what it's about. Sora's keyblade was pretty much a green lantern ring in which he was one of the few people in the universe to wield it's power. After beating the game I literally could not complain about it at all as it was flawless. The other games in the series can not even compare.
Axtwyt 500 Posted February 1, 2015 The first time I found out about Kingdom Hearts was a trailer on a Treasure Planet PC game. It interested me, but my parents wouldn't get it for me due to the rating. Skip some time and I find myself on vacation at Disneyland. We go to the Carousel of Progress, where they had several Disney games. Among them was Kingdom Hearts. I played through the level of Deep Jungle and was fascinated by the game, but somehow, I forgot all about it.Until a few years later...When one of my brothers' friends brought over Kingdom Hearts II, and played through the final Xemnas battle. I was hooked. I wanted to play. He lent me the first game and it was magic. Pure, unadulterated magic. My friend and I played it for days (we only finished Wonderland, and jumped around all the first worlds). We were hooked.
Dave 5,715 Posted February 1, 2015 I remember that the reason I took notice of KH to begin with was because I really like the Disney villains, and the knowledge that they were working in tandem is pretty much what got me to borrow it from my now brother-in-law. I remember having a few good chuckles about Sora mostly bludgeoning everything to death with the keyblade. Also, this was the first time that I was actually exposed to Squall, having skipped FF VIII prior, so it kind of gave me a clarity on the character that I think came in handy when actually dealing with his original game: he's not emo, he's just kind of grumpy. I also remember being incensed, nay, enraged when Riku stole my keyblade. That sucker was MINE, and he just comes along and nabs it. It literally took me years afterwards to get to a point where I wanted to look at Riku even on an academic level as anything other than a complete and total jerk. Mostly, I remember the ending, because at first, I didn't really know what to make of it. Having been somewhat accustomed, at that point of my life anyway, of what a definate ending should be, the notion of leaving it open ended and with a resolution that was in itself only half resolved really took me aback. And yet, my immediate instinct was that I liked it, because even though it didn't look like Sora was going to live happily ever after, seeing all of those stars go back into the sky, and to see Destiny Island back in one piece, really made me feel like I accomplished something pretty neat. Shulk 8,623 Posted February 1, 2015 Well... I was five at the time, so I don't remember well. It probably wasn't anything huge, either. I definitely remember trying Kingdom Hearts I after watching my cousin play it, and loving it more than I ever imagined I could. I still remember a few moments from my first playthrough, including when I finished it. It was my favorite game for a long, long time (Wasn't dethroned until last year), and I still say the original KH game is one of the best I've ever played. HeyMouseSayCheese 1,133 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) Varying degrees of "This is really cool" playing KH1 back in 02/03. I played the game at friends houses, but didn't own it for myself until I think 2003 (at least long enough for the greatest Hits version to come out, the same one I own to this day). It was something that just struck me as really rad from the first moment I can remember seeing it, a feeling I still experience today. I specifically remember being utterly confused at who all the Final Fantasy characters were- I'd literally never heard of FF before playing Kingdom Hearts, so my brother kept having to explain what the hell a Sephiroth was supposed to be. liamaru 294 Posted February 1, 2015 I thought sora was a younger cloud with brown hair also sora's original character build looked tarrible to me he looks 100X better now. 1 TimothyPese reacted to this
liamaru 294 Posted February 1, 2015 My first impression of kingdom hearts was negative the first time i heard about kingdom hearts was in 8th grade a little before days or ff13 came out my friend was trying to get me into the seris so he showed me pictures of the first game and stuff first i thought he was a less cool looking cloud clone "no pun intended" anyway when i saw sora in deep jungle with tarzan and donold an saw sora using....A key? I thought it was beyond stupid and childish.Time passed and my friend eric gave me a copy of his kingdom hearts 1 at first i was i was hesitant but the cover art looked cool and who could turn down a free game right? So i started the game and saw the opening cgi and thought the characters looked cool especially riku , i started playing on destiny islands and was relieved not to have seem any disney characters so i began to draw myself in the story i began to like sora somewhat i already loved riku he was my favorite and kairi....I Couldn't care less for her she had an annoying 8 year old voice an a huge head and feet she totally wasn't cute....Until she took some fasion advice from yuna and serah and because jail bait , anyway i paid attention to the story i liked the combat though i didn't know how to use any special moves and just used "ATTACK" throughout the entire game. the only time i got really interested was in hollow bastion and fighting ansem sod i thought kh 1 was boring "not final mix though" but i liked it. I then played com on the gba emulator and though i didn't like it at first it was my first real "rpg" the story had nothing to do with disney characters they were filler aside mickey jimminey doland and gooby i absolutely loved the organisation 13 especially marluxia and axel one i read marluxia's diolougue "i am lord of this castle" i was taken this is a final fantasy game. I Couldn't believe how dark the game was sora abandoning donold and goofy telling jimminey to shut up axel murdering a fellow member larexene slaping namene marluxia using namene as a human shield axel willing to kill namene to kill marluxia and to top it off this is the first kh whare sora and riku actually kill, sora kills larexene and marluxia with no remorse it was sooooooo firetrucking awesome. Now i Don't know why people hatted the gameplay it was like an active turn base you needed to think fast not just mash ''X'' it was cool kh com is my 2nd favorite kh after kh2.
