Sword Art Online: Starbust Stream (1x1 with Amber Cole)

Recommended Posts

Because I just love love love roleplaying with my daughter, Amber Cole

In the year 2022, a VRMMORPG known as Sword Art Online was released for the Nervegear. The game sold out instantly, and many fans waited days in lines to get their copies of what they believed would be the best game ever. However, all players noticed one important feature was missing: A log out button. The creator of the game, Kayaba Akihiko, then told the players that his goal was to create a world in which he controlled everything that happened. The players were trapped in the game, unless they could clear all 100 floors of Aincrad and defeat the final boss. If a player died in the game, the Nervegear would fry their brain in the real world, killing their actual body.

awww okay. I'll start then. and nice profile pic!

Abrial stretched her arms. She had to be going soon; she had to leave to go back to the life that consisted of homework and school instead of ogres or dragons. She practically lived in SAO ever since it came out.

"A few minutes more couldn't hurt right?" she laid back down on the grass, feeling the small perfect blades brush against her back. The synthetic sun began its decent towards the horizon. Watching these sunsets never got old!

Entean stared at the Frenzy Boar, eyes locked to his target. Pointing his bronze longsword, he pulled it behind him, noticing the purple glow. At once, he dashed forward, slicing the boar in half, before being frozen in the cooldown pose.

"Sweet, I got a potion." he mumbled, looking at the sun. There wasn't much on his to-do list, except for practicing the piano. Living an average shut-in life and being frail as a child, the game Sword Art Online appealed to him for its complete simulation of being outdoors and strenuous fighting. Opening his menu, he decided it be best to take a break, before scrolling to the bottom. "Wait, what? Where is it..." Opening up all the sub menus, he browsed to no avail, until finding «Ethics Code On». Do I really want to know? Setting it to «Ethics Code Off» just for fun, he heard a bell toll in the distance, before finding himself in an area surrounded by users.

A red wall of warning signs formed in the sky, with a reaper emerging from the warning.  "Hello, players of Sword Art Online. I have taken this world now. You have probably noticed by now that you're not able to log out. I am the one behind this. My name is Kayaba Akihiko, and have made it my own. If you wish for freedom, you must climb to the one hundredth floor of the castle Aincrad, and defeat the final boss. Then, I will allow you to go as you please. Also... if you are to die in-game, the Nervegear will fry your brain, killing you in the real world. Good luck... With that short, vague message, he had vanished.

Abrial panicked as she looked around. What was happening? Akihiko couldn't be serious could he? She panicked as she thought about her mom; her mom already hated the Nervegear head-sets, and this would probably add fuel to the fire... if she got out alive. People screamed and cried in the center of the coliseum-like structure. She also noticed the gender-ratio had been screwed after Akihiko's "parting gift."

"Darn it!" Amber growled as she tried to shove her way through the crowd. "I really wished i had spent some time leveling up... I'm still on level 3." she inwardly groaned. There was only one thing left to do: play Akihiko's little game and try to beat him at it. To do that she needed to level, and quickly too.

Entean stood by the corner of the coliseum, unable to take in the words from Akihiko. I'm... trapped? But..... how will I eat... What... about.....? Many "girl" avatars turned into boys, which elicited enough of a chuckle to reel him back into the situation. Heh, really! Opening up his menu, the teen scowled at how he was only level 2, having enjoyed the scenery before grinding. As a beta tester, there were many hidden items and leveling spots necessary for use. Alright! If I'm going to win, I'll need to go t-

Suddenly, a young girl pushed him out aside, nearly knocking him out on the floor. "H-hey! What do you think you're doing!"

The figure was slender and elegant with brown hair brushing against her blue eyes. As she rushed through the crowd, Entean barely managed to reach her, panting.

"Hey there. I'm Entean. Quick, accept my friend request. What's your username?" Opening up his menu, he searched around the names, bombarded with the multiple users.

If I'm going to win this game, I'll definitely need a party member. That's for sure. The other players were still gasping at the reveal of their genders, which made this girl even more important to team up with. She completely ignored everyone and ran for the exit to level. I could a use person like that.

(Can we make it where we can go ahead and input dialogue for each other's characters? I don't want to make my responses short >.< )

Abrial turned to see a boy who was a few inches taller than her with brown hair and eyes. What does he want? I don't have time for this! She stopped her flight long enough to give him a hard stare. He seemed relieved almost that she acknowledged his presence. He bent down, his chest rising with each intake of air.

"What do you want?" Abrial glanced around, itching to get back to the task ahead.

"Accept my friend request!" the boy huffed out before standing to full-height again. A blue icon blipped to life on a white menu interface. Ethan. So his name was Ethan...

"Why? Because I'm a girl?" she turned to leave again, but glanced over her shoulder. "And if you haven't noticed already, I'm kinda in a hurry."

"We have a better chance of winning if we stick together!" the boy, Ethan, called out. Abrial stopped again and looked at him. It was true; they did have a higher chance of surviving this being together. If only she had leveled up more. Abrial breathed out a sigh and gave in.

"Okay, fine. You win." Abrial confirmed the request on the menu, and Ethan's name popped up along with his avatar information.

(Yep.)

Position check > Abrial > Friend

Entean scrolled through the menu bars with ease, clicking the invite option.

Invite

Entean would like to invite you to their party

Flipping through the menu, he went back to Abrial's name, sending her a private message.

The only reason I wanted to add you was so I could PM you about grinding spots. If I said them out loud, someone else might hear them. I've played the beta to level 10 so that should help us. We should head out to Horunka village's forest. There aren't any monsters with paralysis there.

"All right! Let's head out. I hope we can go somewhere that's not too hard. It's my first time." Entean greeted to his partner, using adding an ignorant facade for other players. Running towards the front gates, the duo set out northwest for their location.

So he was a newbie then... interesting; just like me. A surge like electricity went through the crowd. People began to push and shove their way through the masses. Abrial watched in horror as some people feel to the ground and their health was depleted beneath the trampling feet. This was ridiculous. She refused to be just another statistic. She grabbed Entean's hand and pulled him after her into the crowd, careful to not step over other people. The giant wall loomed before them and they ran farther into the city. Thankfully they had already been moving before the crowd panicked, but it was still a close call.

Abrial and Entean stopped in a small clearing; it was almost completely dark out and stars began to blink into existence. A small breeze wafted over the flowers, sending the un-earthly scents spiraling to the heavens. Now came the tricky part, they'd both have to pull their own weight to earn money for inns and food. Abrial turned to her new partner, her only friend in this strange place.

"So you remember how to fight well? I'm guessing you're a low-level like me." She asked.

She stared down Entean as he examined the surroundings. Abrial tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for an answer."Yes." He answered simply, as he opened his menu again, scrolling through it. A puzzled look played across his features. Abrial tried to look over his shoulder, but he glared back. "You mind?""Sorry." She twirled a strand of hair and opened her own menu. She didn't have anything besides a few Col (?) and some simple materials for crafting."We should go to the higher floors." Entean closed his menu. Abrial stared back in shock."Um.... excuse me?" she asked incredulous.

"We should had to the higher floors to hunt more advanced monsters." Abrial balked at the words, and she gaped.

"You want to go where there's a higher risk of being killed? But why?" she stared at Entean, wondering what on earth could be acing through his mind. He gave an exasperated sigh before beginning to walk away."We are on the lowest floor. Soon the monsters will disappear a cease regenerating. We need more experience points to win this game." he glanced back. "You do plan on winning right?" Abrial rolled her eyes before giving in."Of course I am." She fell into step with the stranger next to her. "You know... It was supposed to just be a quick few hours on here. Guess I got more than I bargained for, huh?" She laughed nervously, trying to elicit a conversation.

Entean gave a single, sharp chuckle, almost sneering at Abrial's words. "What makes the real world more better than this?" He suddenly asked, dashing toward Horunka forest. His partner followed him quickly, easily keeping up with his moderate speed. "Well, the fact that we can die is kinda bad, isn't it?" She replied in turn, still unsure about Aincrad's "redeeming" points. Entean simply kept sprinting, already planning his attack patterns. "You can die in real life, too. I don't see any difference."
