Sora96 17,256 Posted January 18, 2015 FINAL FANTASY V is of course the fifth entry in the series and was originally developed for the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo Entertainment System by the team who made FINAL FANTASY IV, V and VI. It was later ported to the PlayStation and Game Boy Advance. A couple years ago Square Enix’s business division 9 released a HD remaster of the Game Boy Advance version for iOS & Android with help from Matrix Software. Expect a PC port soon. Pretty much everything text wise has been remade even the sprites by Kazuko Shibuya, one of the game’s original graphic designers. The backgrounds look great in HD on my tablet, in the most part the sprites look nice to me as someone who is playing this game for the very first time but I understand some people do not like the look of them. However they do look awkward at the times. So many times you’ll see them raise a hand for some odd reason, it’s kind of creepy. But overall, everything looks quite nice now in HD. The gameplay is fun, controls are great and the random encounter rate appears to have been lowered. There are some tough boss fights to be had as well. The Job System used in III has also been improved a great deal. It’s also a nice change to have the party consistent throughout the game unlike IV. The game’s story is quite good. Yoshinori Kitase’s events really stand out with their action but Hironobu Sakaguchi events are also very good with more emotion and humor to them. Strangely enough, there’s also quite a few sexual references in this game which honestly change things up from past entries. It’s definitely a very good story. The iOS and Android versions also support gamepads and cloud saving. It’s also available in a very large number of languages beyond the usual 4-7 languages. There's also lots of achievements to collect. Music and sound effects are very, very good. The music might be the best of the original six games but I'm not the best judge of that, haha. Thankfully there’s also an auto-battle feature which will assist greatly in grinding. The usual bestiary and music player is here. The content added in the Game Boy Advance port is also still here including the Tetsuya Nomura designed optional boss. This is a game FINAL FANTASY fans should play at some point. Unfortunately, there’s no definitive version and there’s very few versions. There’s a PSOne Classic but it’s known for saving issues and long loading times on top of the SNES quality graphics. The GBA port would be hard to find. It’s of course available in HD on iOS & Android and they're pretty good but of course not everyone wants to play a long game on their smartphone or tablet and some may not like the graphics. The iOS/Android version will most likely be ported to PC soon and there’s a good chance of a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita port down the line so you might want to hold off. Anyway, it’s a very good game. 7.9 1 WakelessDream reacted to this
Fenrissychros 167 Posted January 18, 2015 You don't say a single bad thing about the game, yet give it a 7.9? Weird
Sora96 17,256 Posted January 18, 2015 You don't say a single bad thing about the game, yet give it a 7.9? Weird I rate 7.5 to 7.9 as very good. And that's what I feel the game is, it's very good. I did point out a few things actually.
Shulk 8,623 Posted January 18, 2015 I don't know how the GBA version is tough to find, I easily got it for under $20 online. The game's definitely great, probably my third favorite in the series. I love the job system.
