Scalpers Post Over 40 Majora's Mask 3D Limited Editions On Ebay

Recommended Posts

If you're not in the know, Nintendo of America announced a Limited Edition bundle for Majora's Mask 3D that included a highly detailed figurine of Skull Kid yesterday morning that immediately sold out online. However, these didn't really sell out by normal means and you can see that by the amount of copies being sold on Ebay right now. There are literally over 40 copies already listed on ebay for over $100.

While this is a problem, There's also an Ultimate Limited Edition Bundle that adds Prima's Collector's Edition guide to set and only costs you $85.

There are also in-store preorders still open at GameStop.

As for me, I'll probably pass this up if I can't preorder it on Friday. I don't get paid until tomorrow, but I also work tomorrow, so that day's a no go.

This happens with every major release like this. Scalpers generally are people who don't work all year round and make a majority of their money for the year by grabbing up big limited number items like this and reselling. Remember when the Wii and PS3 came out? I saw people selling a Wii the day after release for $1,000 a piece. This is capitalism at its finest, and as much as people say it's not a job, it does take a lot of work and there's a lot of risk involved. It's a very fair way to make money because you are taking a huge risk for a potential big payoff. You have to do a lot of research beforehand before you just buy up whatever is coming out.

It's not a job. This shouldn't even be a legal practice. Scalpers are nothing but assholes. It's not hard to get an actual job and keep it. No one likes these kinds of people and with this game specifically, people are letting them know. Scalpers deserve no respect.

I know people may want it a lot, but if everyone collectively boycotted these and didn't buy them then they'll have just loads of wasted money sitting round them, and eventually will stop as there's no profit in it.  But there's always gonna be people willing to pay over the odds and support this kind of tactic.  Even though it isn't legal I still think they should cancel the preorders related to the IPs of the listings posted.  It's such a scumbag move to true fans (and this is from someone in UK who's happy with her EU SE preorder and has no intentions of getting the US one).

Also seems weird, the store I preorder my new games from is GAME and they don't take the money out of my account til the game is due to be dispatched.  Which is lucky since I preordered last year when it was announced and currently have £12 in my bank account til next Wednesday or something.  I'm sure if more stores did thing people who couldn't afford it up front could put money in their accounts leading up to the release to cover it.

Of course, nobody blames Nintendo for having what must have been a ridiculously low stock in the first place... they knew stuff like this would happen. It's happened before, and will happen again.

Anyway, for those who actually want it, keep an eye on the listings. Oftentimes close to the release date people cancel their order (because Amazon doesn't penalize that) when they realize they won't have the money in time. Totally how I snagged the KH3D CE, and it was worth it.

How could that POSSIBLY be illegal? It's buying low and selling high, which EVERY single business is doing. Nintendo is doing it by making games in the first place. Do you honestly think they pay $50 for a game then sell it for $50? No, they produce them for cheaper and sell them for more to make a profit. These people are doing the exact same thing that retail stores do to make a profit too. You could not possibly make it illegal because doing so would mean you have to make capitalism itself illegal. Supply and demand, they researched what the demand would be and went through great lengths to acquire the supply, this is the exact same thing that retailers do. They price based upon how much they have vs. how much people want it.

It deserves respect because it's a VERY high risk business, you could spend thousands to not sell anything. Don't be mad because other people are willing to risk their money to make a big profit and you didn't. They are far from assholes, they are people trying to make a living.

Reminds me of the old saying: Don't hate the player, hate the game.

The world is about survival of the fittest, if these people are willing to take bigger risks for the chance of bigger pay offs and it works out for them, more power to them. Hey, I don't think any of us could deny that we would love to be able to make the kind of money that scalpers make sometimes.

Same here actually. Ordering online, your money isn't pulled from the card or bank until the game ships out. In which case, these usually end up going bad if they don't sell. To me, it's better they get hit with dropping their preorder rather than having someone buy the game and they get to keep the change.
