PS3/Xbox 360 games nowdays suck?!

Recommended Posts

Since the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One the games that have came out for all main consoles, such as PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and PC have a terrible time on the old gen-consoles like I've never seen.

Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age: Inquisition and other countless games had their graphics so bad on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 that it looks a lot like a PS2 game. We can't also forget about the glitches.

Is this a joke? The PS3 can handle a lot. Just look at tis EXCLUSIVES! Beyond: Two Souls; The Last of Us, etc... Damn, you can barely notice any difference on the PS4 version of this game except for the constrast.

The only recent game which I haven't hd any trouble playing for the PS3 is Alien: Isolation. Graphics look the same, except for a few objects which resolution is small -- doesn't bother me at all. Rare glitches and all of those sorts. Some freezings and frame drop time to time, which don't bug me at all.

My PC can't handle new games so well, so that's why I prefer to play 'em on my PS3, but what's the point if these new games suck ass on this console?! I know that this new generation is important, but that's not excuse to make games look like shit on the previous one! Back at the PS2-PS3 thingy, makers would make different games for both consoles in order to support the engines instead of loweing the graphical aspect!

Well, yeah, games made for newer platforms are naturally going to have a more difficult time being ported to older platforms. And you might recall most PS2 versions of multiplat games back then were far inferior to the newer console versions.

They're not stupid. They want you to to upgrade from the old consoles. This world is about making money, this is a mere stratergy to help obtain it.

I think you'd make more money and a better reputation if your games'd work better on the previous consoles. I'm not gonna buy a PS4 on purpose just to experience new games. I'd rather not play them all!

Yet some games managed to still look beautiful on both versions.

No, it can not... the PS3 is a piece of shit, it's a 10 year old console. It is very outdated, I don't need to go into specifications, Google it. The PS4 doesn't have any games either so tbh it's worse than the PS3 right now. Games>Tech specs.

So right now, a gamer's best bet is to buy a gaming PC. It's never been like this before.

NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD A GAMING PC!

PS3 still had some incredibly and impressive games in 2013! Just look at the exclusives!

You literally just pointed out in your own post that the PS3 is near 10 years old, then went on to claim the PS4 is shit compared to it because of it's game library.

It's almost like there's no comparing a year and a half year old system to a decade old system when it comes to their library.

It's almost like one has had ten firetrucking years to build up a library, whereas the other has not.

Wait, so the PS3 sucks because it's specs suck, but it has a great games library, so by your logic... wouldn't it be fantastic? PC elitism at its finest.

Anyway, yeah, it mostly has to do with them not bothering to optimize it for a given system. This goes both ways; AC Unity was a glitchy as hell game because Ubisoft was just so used to working for the PS3 that they had no idea what to do with the new-gen.

Like which games? The only one that comes to mind is Sonic Unleashed, and that looked way worse on PS2/Wii. And developers are moving on to new consoles. It always happens that way; there's no business sense in developing games specifically for consoles that are slowly being phased out.

With the emphasis being placed on the new-gen consoles, it's inevitable that PS3 ports of PS4 games will look a little less shiny and whatnot.  This is due to technical issues, and also because the developers won't put extra work in making a port look as good as its new-gen brethren.  Like DemyxIsBest pointed out, this is all a strategy so you can upgrade to the new-gen consoles.

As games get more advanced, the resources of older consoles will be spread more thin, leading to the impression that the games are looking 'worse' but what's really happening is what's going on under the hood is getting more advanced

The PS3 is older than 10 years if you go into technical specifications, and there are game consoles that launched with good games lol. It doesn't need a decade, the games should have been developed along with the system.

No it wouldn't. I don't see what's so hard for you to understand about my post lol. The PS3 is a piece of shit with better games than the PS4 which is technologically superior and in the world of gaming, quality of games is what matters the most. So it currently surpasses PS4 in this way, but still sucks because of its 15 year old parts. I didn't say the PS3 had a great game library either, nothing even close, but it can be assumed that I implied it has better games.

So are you saying that you didn't find KH2.5 to have really good graphics for a HD remaster? Cause that was a PS3 game and it still looked great.

And like I have said before, Nintendo is much better than Sony and Microsoft nowadays. They have better games, greater graphics on the Wii U, and just bring more to the table then anybody else.

(just as an fyi, "laughing out loud" is seen as incredibly condescending the way you're using it. Protip!)

Consoles aren't going to launch with their best systems right out of the gate for a lot of reasons; developers need time to understand the system, and they get better as they do so. Software patches and occasional hardware tweaks happen all the time and make using resources a lot easier.

And your comparison was immediately invalidated by your next statement, that's why it was "hard to understand". Yes, the PS3 is older and technically inferior; that does not make it a "piece of shit", as you so blithely repeat, but rather a product of time and age. The games are good and they play well (and, gasp gasp, they have exclusives, which a lot of people prefer). The PS4 has better parts because it's newer, but doesn't have as great a gaming library YET (again, because it's newer), so comparing the two doesn't even make sense.

I would hope so, since they've had an extra two years on the market =P. I still need to get a Wii U for obvious reasons, but if the other two consoles don't have a library and quality the size of the Wii U's now, I'll be shocked.

So are you saying that you didn't find KH2.5 to have really good graphics for a HD remaster?

KH 2.5 had extremely shitty graphics for an HD remaster considering the PS2 has graphics inferior to 90s PCs.

Cause that was a PS3 game and it still looked great.

No, that was a PS2 game, and it looks shitty as firetruck. Your 3DS can do a lot better. Kingdom Hearts looks terrible as a modern-day game. Kingdom Hearts 3 should be up to par however.

They have better games

This is honestly just a matter of opinion, but Nintendo's games tend to be popular with old gamers and little kids.

greater graphics on the Wii U

The Wii U is a piece of shit when it comes to graphics. Nintendo stopped making their consoles for graphics after the Gamecube. They once made superior consoles, now they just make shit to appeal to the family.

 "piece of shit",

It is currently a piece of shit that's been out for 9 years with some good games better than a relatively new console that is like a lower mid-end PC.

With the emphasis being placed on the new-gen consoles

TBH I don't know what this means.

it's inevitable that PS3 ports of PS4 games will look a little less shiny and whatnot.

No, it isn't.... first of all it's a PS4 port of a PS3 game, second of all, the graphics are supposed to look the same lol. The resolution is bumped up a lot, to a significant amount with PS4 ports unlike PS3 ports which were only upped to 720p which is not even full HD. PS4 ports of PS3 games are a lot better than PS3 ports of PS2 games, this maybe surprising.

because the developers won't put extra work in making a port look as good as its new-gen brethren.

Yeah pretty much, that and they have little money/interest.

I wouldn't say what you're doing is "arguing", just insulting anything that you don't like or otherwise doesn't fit into your worldview. But at this point, it's likely that's just how you are, so I won't object further. My opinion is that age and outdated-ness does not automatically make something a "piece of shit"; yours clearly is. I'll have fun on my system(s) regardless.

Then we can agree to disagree.

No offense, but this is a surprise? Newer consoles of course are going to get the bulk of the development time, while older consoles will get quickly scrapped together ports to cater to the crowd who hasn't upgraded yet. We're entering more or less the cut off point for the last gen consoles soon (Sony announced the PS3 will be serviced until 2016, and I doubt it'll be long into it too, my guess would be around April) and hardware makers are now contracting devs to inspire people to buy newer consoles. Remember, devs work with the hardware companies because they both have a common interest.

Well actually, the remaster looked like just that... They ported a PS2 game to PS3, added anti-aliasing, and upscaled it. It was by no means a very graphically appealing game, and definitely was stretching the definition of the words "high definition" but would not be the first time such a thing was done. Was the game still good though? Absolutely!

Actually, being a Wii U owner, I can honestly say the Wii U's graphics are inferior to the PS4, however their library is definitely on the better side over Microsoft and debatably Sony if you're only talking exclusives. Sony's ports of next-gen games seems to be better than their competitors so far though.

As far as PC gaming goes, I myself am a huge PC guy, and even I can admit... PC gaming has entered a very "eh" age. Our PC ports are becoming sloppy, and devs are definitely giving consoles the better treatment these days. We are receiving games that need massive amounts of user based patches to be playable, on top of this the lack of unified services is kind of an issue. You need UPlay, Origin, Steam, and a million other clients to play games now, whereas consoles you either have Xbox Live or PSN. Our achievements are scattered across multiple platforms, and devs are paying less and less mind to requirements when making games, because we've been seeing a lot of games with fairly high requirements for the time they are coming out.

Being someone who has been a PC gamer for a loooooong time, I can honestly say that the whole "PC is master race" thing is ignoring the numerous problems with the platform. Yes, graphically and mod wise we usually get the best versions for that, but in terms of a lot of other things, we usually get the shaft. Not to mention a lot of the ports of bigger games are taking forever these days to come out too. We had to wait what... A year and a half almost just for GTA5?

And of course our DRM is becoming a freaking nightmare.

In short: PC may be a great platform, one I'll always love, but there are still just as many problems as consoles. There really is no "perfect" platform. Love gaming on all platforms, is really the only way to always ensure you'll get the best experience every time.

Right, PC has its downfalls, but in the end, the consoles bear pretty much no superior features at all.

I disagree.

I would love a unified achievement system, less DRM and the guarantee that I won't need to buy new hardware to play a game. I also would love more local multiplayer as well which PC versions usually lack without having to build a second PC and buy a second copy of the game. I'd also like to be able to play party games, which let's face it, PCs just can't do well for obvious reasons.

I've been studying the game industry for many years now, and honestly as I said before: there is no one platform that is superior in every regard, and there is no platform without drawbacks.

I would love a unified achievement system,

I'd honestly say this is one feature that sets consoles above PCs, achievements changed gaming imo.

Absolutely, and the fact that on PC we are still struggling to have a unified system (or even a system at all for many games) is kind of frustrating. Not to mention there are numerous other issues with the PC platform. I will always love it, but I can honestly say that console gaming isn't going away any time soon because PC is far from perfect.
