But I thought he departed being the head of the show in 2004.

No idea. I've seen him return (i think). Regardless we will get him to do our work of shutting down spongebob!

We'll make him put his CalArts degree to another good use.

*ahem* If I may interject.

I just said that Stephen Hillenburg himself is going to be partially writing the script for this movie. Hillenburg has written all the Spongebob episodes from its inital beginning to the last movie that was released some time ago. It was after he gave the show over to Paul Tibbit that the show starting to get bad. With Hillenburg back at the helm, this movie has a chance to be of the same quality that Spongebob used to possess.

Pfeh. The original Spongebob film had the right idea. Animate it like the cartoon and only splice in live-action segments sparingly. (And even then, keep it in the vein of the original cartoon, with David Hasselhoff making a pretty funny cameo) This sounds awful, like the Hogey Bear movie, Alvin & the Chipmunks and so on.

Not to mention that this is modern Spongebob, which sucks the big one, anyway. 2004 was probably the last year Spongebob was ever consistently funny on television or film.

Also, 'He's leaving his world behind'? What, like the several dozen other times he's done it in the past? You're not really breaking any new ground here. (Hell in one episode, they fly a rocket onto the friggin' moon. And this was the late 90's/early 2000's Spongebob.)

Oh. I didn't see that post. Yeah I know. I hope the film will be decent too. I was kinda hyperbolizing myself.

3D animation is the new standard. And it can be done very well if using the right techniques. Lets wait on a trailer or something before the animation comes into question in terms of bashing.

This is the third time now: the creator of Spongebob himself, Stephen Hillenburg, is partially writing the premise of this movie. He's responsible for the quality that Spongebob has had from its initial debut to the release of the first movie way back when. After he gave the direction of the show over to Paul Tibbit, who is also writing for this movie, the quality began to drop. Even so, I'm sure with Hillenburg at the helm, there's a chance that the quality of the movie's writing will at least be a bit better than the current state of the show.

You realize that he only left the ocean for like five minutes in all those encounters and didn't interact with the environment at all? Even in the first movie, all he and Patrick had a very limited experience with the outside world. Their biggest stunt was meeting David Hasselhoff and that was it. With this movie being entirely focused on Spongebob leaving the ocean, there's plenty more time for the yellow guy to explore dry land and have new experiences for us to see.

I'm not expecting much, even with Hillenburg. 'A chance' at being entertaining versus incredibly stupid is not a very promising prospect for a movie.

But you're absolutely right that it's premature to judge something before a trailer comes out. I'm just getting sick of live-action adaptations and reboots of things popping up everywhere and seeing it being used on a series that originally did something much more creative in it's first outing following suit is just a little insulting to me.

At least it's something Kaweebo, and given the current standard, I'm holding out on for at least something that resembles the charm that Spongebob used to have. But that's just me.

I thank you for agreeing with me, and I understand where you're coming from. Still, there's always the possibility it will be done in a much better way. Also, and this is just my opnion: I think that has a much better chance of happening given how, for the most part, mixing live action and animation in the world of Spongebob has been executed fairly well.

I still love spongebob, it was my childhood and it honestly is one of my favorite cartoons to date. However, the last two seasons, in my opinion have gone in a downward spiral and haven't stopped. Spongebob in 2D is what we want, and what the show needs, A movie in 3D just sounds wrong for a Spongebob installment. I truly, truly hope this is a lie. If this maintains true, I hope it does well. This better be a one-time thing and not a transition into a new season like this or something...
