Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) KH3D. It didn't ruin the franchise but it does stand out to me as the point in the series where the story seems to get too wrapped up in itself, and that just makes it feel off compared to the other games in the series. Also Resident Evil 5, since Capcom sort of just dropped any kind of horror element from the series entirely. At least Resident Evil 4 tried to scare you a little bit before you found your first shotgun and started blowing villagers heads off. Dio Brando 5,810 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) Paper Mario isn't a franchise it's a spin-off series within the Mario franchise. Anyway, one game that ruined their franchises for me would be(in some cases two though) : Lightning Returns FFXIII Sonic Boom and Sonic 06 Resident Evil 6 Banjo Kazooie Nuts n Bolts Edited December 25, 2014 by Smash Mega Koopa 4 Sarah Choco, Exiblade7, liamaru and 1 other reacted to this

Dio Brando 5,810 Posted December 25, 2014 Well, I guess I can say sticker star ruined the future of paper mario games? I really really doubt that,a spin-off series isn't ruined since it can be the subject of experimentation For example,Game & Wario was the worst WarioWare game I ever played but that doesn't kill the WarioWare series for me Sticker Stars is just an experiment that got wrong just like Game & Wario and hopefully the next entry will be much better It's firetrucking Mario why would they stop making Mario games? Sorarocks93 678 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) I'm going to have to say Tomb Raider. The game might be good but it's different. Even Lara is different. From what I've seen I mean because I haven't actually bought the game because of the gameplay I've seen which is basically a third person shooter with cover mechanics, like we didn't have many of those games. Also about Lara's character, why did they have to change her so much? It really made me sad... I sincerely hope the sequel is more like the previous games. PS: I actually want to buy it but I'm scared I'll hate it... Edited December 25, 2014 by Sorarocks93

Also what people personally think isn't all that important either. Sticker Star sold REMARKABLY badly, and is constantly on clearance as a result. That's the kind of thing that an make it so the franchise never sees the light of day again I never thought of it that way before and before this I treated the paper mario games as its own series, but it seems like you're right and i'm wrong. There's plenty of other Mario games, so if this one's not popular, why put money into it?

No Paper Mario has sold THAT well. Super Paper Mario wasn't all that well received, the original only got a med tier reception. Really only Thousand Year Door is considered exceptional by critics. We might get another Paper Mario, but possibly not for a long while

Kaweebo 3,617 Posted December 25, 2014 (edited) Really? No one's mentioned Mass Effect 3 yet? Although my definition of 'ruined' is a lot more strict than some other people's, so I can't honestly say ME3 ruined the franchise. Now, if ME4 ends up being somehow worse, well... The Force Unleashed II would be my answer. It didn't even need to be made, but it's existence made this a franchise and then completely ruined it. advfox 698 Posted December 25, 2014 Series don't get ruined for me. If a game is made that isn't that good, the developers generally learn from their mistakes and move on. It's not the end of the world.

Firaga 5,947 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) Games don't ruin franchises. Developers and publishers just fill franchises with bad games. Even so, I can name off a some franchises that are in a really low point in their life as of now thanks to some crappy games: Destroy All Humans!: Before THQ went bankrupt and had to sell the IP of DAH to Nordic Games, they made Destroy All Humans!: Path of the Furon, the last current entry of the franchise and the first to go on last-gen consoles Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It was released for the Xbox 360 in North America, but the PS3 version didn't go through because of "development issues"; the game still got shipped for both consoles in Europe and Australia. In short, the game was boring and full of glitches, and a terrible way to end what was a really good franchise in my book and that had potential to be much greater. As of last year, Nordic Games has confirmed they don't know what the hell to do with the IP, so until then, Furon is our last game. Terrific. Crash Bandicoot: Crash Bandicoot isn't dead. He's just... well... he's just been given a bad hand. It's like when a child star actor gets big in their youth but when they move on to adulthood, they end up less than fortunate enough to land some crappy job selling popcorn at a local fair or something like that. Crash had success under his original creators Naughty Dog and Universal for some time: we got the original trilogy, the racing games, Crash Bash, Crash Twinsanity and other titles. But then everything changed when Activision snatched him up. They changed his look, they changed his formula, and they made everything that made Crash great amount to a bucket of piss. There is a light at the end of the tunnel though; Sony and Naughty Dog have expressed their concern to bring Crash back to his former glory, but just like DAH, it's all just a big "maybe" until further news comes in. Sonic The Hedgehog: Look, first off, I love Sonic, and he's been a icon in the gaming industry for decades. If you don't like that, too bad, because it's a fact. You don't have to like the series, but it's still a giant in the gaming world, even if certain complications have come up in its storied history. Sonic The Hegehog, I think, started having trouble during the last, last generation. Say what you want about Sonic games beforehand, but shit seriously hit the fan after the infamous release of Shadow the Hedgehog for the PS2 AKA Sonic Team trying and failing to do something new and unique for the franchise. After that, we got Sonic The Hegehog, Aka Sonic '06 and... well, you all know how that happened. Then it seemed like Sonic Team just started throwing ideas at the wall to see what would stick. Most of them didn't stick (Sonic And The Lost Rings and Sonic And The Black Night) and some actually did (Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors). Then we got Sonic Generations, not only a throwback to classic Sonic but a nice look to the future for modern Sonic... and then Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric happened. (I'm not counting Sonic Lost World because that one went either way, nor Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal since that was the better of the two Boom games). Granted, I personally don't count the Boom titles as major titles because the Boom brand as a whole is what matters the most (and the cartoon and comics are ten times better anyway). But yeah, at this point it seems like we're going one step forward and two steps back, which honestly shouldn't be happening. Sonic Team and Sega should be competent enough to make good titles for their mascot, and hopefully they pick that up so we don't see more mistakes being made in the future. They have to get to right eventually. Edited December 26, 2014 by Firaga Sensei 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
clatter411 75 Posted December 26, 2014 It really depends on the series and how important story and continuity is. Mario games are not really connected from one to the next so if one game is bad they can just make it up with the next one. But series like kingdom hearts where the story in one game directly effects the others one game can ruin everything. Although there has not been a game in any series I have played that has done that yet. There certainly have been numerous small elements that have begun to build up that annoy me. Whether or not they ruin the series depends on future titles. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted December 26, 2014 (edited) I mean, really only the last 15 minutes of ME3 ruin the franchise, the rest is pretty good I wouldn't go that far, there's sprinkles of crap scattered all over that game, (There's also some really good elements, too, admittedly) but none of it really screams 'ruined franchise' to me. Now, 'ruined trilogy' is another matter. ME3 totally ruined the Mass Effect trilogy. I thought about putting Crash Bandicoot up there, but I still hold out hope that we'll eventually get another Crash game someday that has nothing to do with the last two.
