Jim 2,990 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Hello all! As 2014 draws to a close, it has come time to judge what games really stood out this year. So, I decided to make it so that one game wins KH13's "Game of the Year" award, and another game wins the "Krazily Heartbreakingly 13ad" award. Here's how it will work, DChiuch permitting: In Round 1 (this topic), every KH13 user is free to comment which games are the best and worst games they've played that came out this year. They are not limited to one choice for either option, and can post whichever games they think are among the best or worst of the year. I'll look over this topic at some point in the near future (when I feel that I've given everyone sufficient time to post their opinion). You can vote for a game even if you haven't played/beaten it, or have simply seen a Youtuber play through it or something like that. Rounds 2 and 3: Two Polls, one containing all the most popular contenders for best, and one with all the most popular contenders for worst. Everyone can cast their vote, even if they did not say anything in the first round. Announcement of the winners: When enough votes have been cast for best and worst, I will photoshop a "Game of the Year" crown onto the box art of the game voted the best, and a "Krazily Heartbreakingly 13ad" dog doo badge onto the box art of the game voted the worst, and post these in an announcement topic. A few more things: Feel free to comment if you think there is a better way to do this. If you want to make the "GOTY" crown and/or the "K.H.13." dog doo badge, let me know! At this point, I am disqualifying re-releases. This means that games such as "The Last of Us: Remastered," "Grand Theft Auto V" (PS4/XBOne), and yes, even "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX" are not allowed, because they are simply older games that were bumped up one console generation. If someone thinks of a good reason to consider otherwise, please comment your reasons and I'll think about it. Pokemon OR/AS, however, is allowed due to it being a complete remake with extra content, not simply a remaster. Have fun! HeyMouseSayCheese 1,133 Posted December 18, 2014 Oh, hell, I just realized that I haven't played any games that came out this year. That's odd to think about. Question: do The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2 count as games released this year, considering they were initially released in 2013 but several episodes in each were released this year? Isaix 924 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Super Smash Bros Wii U is the best game that came out this year, even though I have a lot of problems with the game like the fact its lacking modes that were in previous games in the serie or the fact that I don't like the majority of the stages and end up fighting in the Final Destination versions of stages most of the time, its still a wonderful game, the character roaster is perfect and the fighting mechanic are even better before. And since we can choose multiple games,I also chose Hyrule Warriors,Mario Kart 8,Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and even Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2,its not as good as the other I listed and it may not be a ''true'' Castlevania game but,I certainly had fun playing it.it was enjoyable for what it was. As the worst games of 2014,I'll only name those I've actually play because its difficult to say if a game is terrible without actually playing it(yes I'm looking as you Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric,Lightning Return Final Fantasy XIII and Call of Duty whatever warefare came out this year). So from the games I've play the title definitely goes to Soulcalibur Lost Swords,I don't know what Namco were thinking when they release this ''Soulcalibur game'',I mean Soulcalibur without multiplayer? WHAT? and the single player sucks too,I never though they'd make a Soul Calibur worst then V,but I was wrong apparently.Even for free its not worth to play and it probably sucks because its free to play. Soravids 1,056 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) If we aren't allowing HD remasters there are only a few I can think of. The Best: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII This was the first 2014 game I played. I feel it deserves to be on the list because I was really excited to see the close to this saga, but it was sad because it was the end. I thoroughly enjoyed it though! It felt really in-depth during boss battles and just moving around. The story was really exciting and kept me hooked until the end. I also loved those optional bosses. This game had everything a JRPG fan like myself would want. I was anxiously awaiting it for months. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes Okay, I hear a lot of complaints about this game being really short, but it isn't short if you play it how it was meant to be played. The main campaign was a sort of "prologue" to it's sequel "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt some of the side missions were longer than the main story and had really good gameplay. With tons of way to do each mission and trophies, this game can offer several hours of entertainment. Drakengard 3 I feel this game is underrated. Sure, it doesn't have all the graphical power PS3 has to offer, but still it has some awesome dragon designs, a good story, and a good soundtrack. The story is really complicated and will take great attention to understand. Your first impressions of the game will be totally different by the time you finish it. This game will really make you think. Tales of Xillia 2 The sequel to what I believe is the best Tales game. Gameplay has seriously stepped up from the first and there is a lot of side missions! Us JRPG lovers really love those side missions. I think it has a really good soundtrack and a unique graphical style! The story kept me hooked till the end. Just make sure you stay at a high level. This game can be hard. LittleBigPlanet 3 A game that revolutionized online gaming was LittleBigPlanet in my opinion. We got three new characters, tons of new create tools, the ability to create full story campaigns where you can save your progress and so much more! This game never gets old! There is always new stuff to do with new levels being published each day. The story mode portion ain't bad either. That's about it for this year. If we could add HD remasters I would put Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remaster in without hesitation. This was a pretty big year for games, but if we get KH game next year that will be great. I believe 2015 will see more releases than 2014. I didn't play any games I didn't like so I can't list any. I nominate... Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Edited December 18, 2014 by soravids 1 mgmkidKH reacted to this
teatimed 16 Posted December 18, 2014 My game of the year nomination is Broken Age by Double Fine. Although Act 2 is still to be released, Act 1 was one of the most original games I played this year and has become one of my most loved games of all time. Psychic_Ketchup 367 Posted December 18, 2014 I had to think really hard for a bit, because I almost exclusively played older games or remasters this year, but I nominate two titles: Shovel Knight. Great soundtrack, decent platforming and a surprisingly okay story. Child of Light. Slightly strategic battles made combat fun, and flying through the world collecting treasure was great. But kinda short, with twists that my cat could have seen coming.
Emrys 3,192 Posted December 18, 2014 I nominate Destiny, the wolf among us and farcry 4 for GOTY
mgmkidKH 26 Posted December 18, 2014 I nominate Lightning Returns for Best Game of the Year. Maybe Drakengard 3 too; it's a really underrated game with a beautiful soundtrack and a great story.

TheKingdomkid 1,194 Posted December 18, 2014 Best: I'm saying Persona Q Shadow of the Labyrinth. The story is incredible and it brings together the two popular cast of Persona 3 and Persona 4 together with two new characters added to the mix that I just couldn't help but love, especially Rei, every time she's says something I just can't help but laugh at how silly and funny it is she interprets things, and she also loves corn dogs and because of her I have had the craving of corn dogs every time I play that game, I still haven't beaten it but I am very close to it and I just keeps getting better and better with every labyrinth you go through and you can see each character having some growth as the game progresses as well and that's what a game should be about. Worst: I can't really say anything because games I have gotten this year I have liked but I know there is a lot of games that weren't that great like Sonic Boom and Assassin's Creed Unity because of bugs but I will go with Sonic Boom it was rushed and you watch the Game Grumps videos on it or I'm sure anyone else and you will see how broken that game is. Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Some more Worsts: Drakengard 3 - It's a prequel sequel...we all know how that goes (being a prequel also means I didn't have to play the other ones to play this one). The entire Prologue gives you this sense of the game actually being good. I bought this game for a nice $30 after the game had only been out for less than a month (it was a $60 game at it's initial release) all because I saw the prologue. In the prologue, you're a badass Siren with her trusty badass dragon (voiced by the amazing Paul St. Peter). You get to the end, lose an arm, and your dragon sacrifices himself to keep you alive. So after this ends, we just timeskip about 5 years. You have a prosthetic arm and because of your dragon's previous sacrifice, you now have this weird flower thing in your eye that allows you to rebirth from your corpse (literally, old body splits open and she just climbs out covered in blood). You're now stuck with a wishy-washy baby dragon and your goal from the prologue (kill your five siren sisters) still remains. This is where the game gets bad, like...horrendously bad. You get stuck with repetitive gameplay on small, linear maps with no exploration. The dialogue is extremely trashy. All the characters talk about is sex (while the baby dragon is curious as to what things they're talking about). Hell, one of the sisters is a virgin and apparently it's wrong to be a virgin so your character hates her for being a virgin. I couldn't finish this game because it's hard to look past the trashy dialogue when the maps and gameplay can't keep you pulled into the game. At least I made some good trade credit out of it for the better games of the year. Lightning Returns - Why the hell is there nothing else to do with you extra time than to just skip to the end? This game was a terrible, terrible impulse buy. I did like the whole outfit thing and the gameplay felt the best yet out of the series, but for the most part...it wasn't good. I'm hoping we can just stick to full action and drop turn-based ideas entirely at some point. Edited December 18, 2014 by Hero of Winds
TheGuide 177 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Bests : Super smash bros 4, Destiny, Pokemon OR/AS, Theatrythrm final fantasy curtan call. As for my pick to be nominated, ill rule out destiny because it was just a personal favorite, i recognize objectively there are better games. also, OR/AS, becuase TECHNICALLY it was a rerelease, even though it was an incredible remake with so many improvements on the original and the pokemon series in general. Between the last two, smash is better. Best: Super smash bros 4 Shovel Knight <-- changing my vote. SUCH a good game. Worst: Sonic boom: Rise of Lyric Edited December 21, 2014 by TheGuide
