Firaga 5,947 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) It's trash. It's complete trash. Okay, it's not trash. I still don't like it though. So yeah, this is me, throwing it out there, because I feel like I am the only one who thinks this. But if you feel like I do, then please say so. That way I don't have to feel so alone. As for the rest of you: well, why don't you try to convince me otherwise? My main gripes are: A) the art is horrible, B) the story is full of unneeded gags and stupid shit, and C) the fights are... well, they're almost non-existent. Your move. JTD95 1,107 Posted December 16, 2014 Agree, it adds nothing to the series other than bad gags. It's unneeded.

They even got the designs of the Disney characters down. Alright, I could have been more specific with that one... The Disney characters are fine. I meant the original characters. They look too... cartoony. Way too cartoony. Especially Sora in KH1 and COM, where his face looks like a soft blob of shojo. 1 Agucsoccer reacted to this

Dracozombie 4,554 Posted December 16, 2014 I don't mind the art. I think it can be cute at times. The gags can be hit-and-miss but I feel it gives the adaptation its own flavor, and as an adaptation, I don't expect it to be a 1:1 replica of the games -- otherwise I'd just play the games. And I'm not a heavy reader of manga in general, so I tend to get lost whenever fights in that medium happen, so the lack of fighting is no loss to me. I don't place a high value on the manga -- I don't think I'd miss much if I hadn't read it -- but what I do like about it is when it expands on certain elements that the games don't. Sometimes there's more character interaction, or they put their own spin on things. The CoM manga, for instance (I actually haven't read it myself but it's just what I hear), has the Organization as legitimately heartless and empty, but can still feel emotions. To me that makes more sense compared to the games, where they're stated to be both heartless and emotionless but then act completely emotional. If no one flat-out stated they can't feel anything, I wouldn't have picked up on it just from how they acted. It's actually an element I wish the games used instead. 2 Xiro and Reyn reacted to this
TheKingdomkid 1,194 Posted December 16, 2014 Although I like the manga I can see why you would think that. The art is great I like it, and the story does have some necessaries like you said but they did some of the stuff in there better then how they did it in the game in my opinion, same with the fights especially the one where Sora and Roxas have their fight I like how they did it in the Manga then in the game and how Sora Kairi and RIku meet up again in Kingdom Hearts 2 I like how they have Sora and Riku as Ansem fighting in the manga and I like that, the manga is ok but you won't get the full story unless you play the games but to each their own. Ceriraye 485 Posted December 16, 2014 The manga is okay. gives me a good laugh or chuckle from time to time, honestly one thing the manga does better than the game is characterize kairi. Well to a point. The art is a lot better than what I've seen before and the story is cut pretty short, like someone said reading the manga alone won't give the full story. Even if the thing isn't canon it could be a wee bit better.
Firaga 5,947 Posted December 16, 2014 Character development is better than in the game. Give me an example because from what I've seen, that's not even remotely true. I don't mind the art. I think it can be cute at times. The gags can be hit-and-miss but I feel it gives the adaptation its own flavor, and as an adaptation, I don't expect it to be a 1:1 replica of the games -- but what I do like about it is when it expands on certain elements that the games don't. Sometimes there's more character interaction, or they put their own spin on things. Those ideas sound good on paper, but in reality: it boils down to stupid nonsense with the gags half the time, and the character interaction involves either more gags or just not enough substance. I need this to be taken seriously. I know its Kingdom Hearts, but when I hear the words "Kingdom Hearts manga", I expect a manga that fully delves into the series, telling the story accurately, adding changes that are necessary, such as gameplay/cutscene moments that if left alone would look barebones in a storytelling format, keeping the action consistent and well done because yeah, it's a game with action, you can't just skip the fight scenes, and overall staying true to the tone of the series. This manga does none of that for me.

This manga does none of that for me. Well, not all adaptations are a winner. I guess they hired the wrong guys to make the manga. I personally can find it enjoyable when I don't take it seriously, but if you wanted a serious adaptation, well, guess you're out of lucky. Wait around for someone to make something better, or just stick with the games. 2 Oli and Reyn reacted to this
Shulk 8,623 Posted December 16, 2014 The manga's flawed, but it can be entertaining. I see it as more of a parody than anything else. I think the Days manga is infinitely better than the game, though. Character development is better than in the game. I don't remember much character development at all in the KH1 manga. That's the only one I read much of, but honestly, from what I've seen of the rest, the games are much better in that department.
liamaru 294 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) i agree for the most part the art is too childish and the tone became childish as well the gas only made it worse and the fights were a joke also xemnas and ansem are drawn horibly , sora seems much more cheerful then usual and is rarely serious and roxas is really out of character roxas is suppose to be a very serious quiet kid with a temper and only show a cheerful side to axel and xion like noctice but in the manga he just seems like an energetic kid brother also he seems younger and more talkative overall i didn't enjoy the manga. DragonMaster 1,166 Posted December 16, 2014 I actually like the more cartoony art style, and the humor is up my alley (though I've been told I find stupid stuff funny, make of that what you will). But I don't think I'm capable of convincing you of suddenly liking the art or humor. I think the characterization and story lines are hit or miss. The KH1 manga definitely had pacing issues and CoM was pretty okay (I might like it better than the game simply because I despised the card based exploration in CoM). Days, though, I think is way better than the story in the game (this is coming from one of the people who actually loved Days). It gives so much more personality to everyone which, though it probably doesn't make much sense in context that these are Nobodies we're talking about, makes it a lot more enjoyable. *Note, haven't read KH2 yet* Overall, I think the additional humor and less serious tone fit the series better. I love KH, don't get me wrong, but I think it might take itself a bit too seriously for what it is, and the manga fixes that. I can certainly see why someone wouldn't like it, though. KazeNari 53 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Ever thought that you're not the target audience for the KH manga? It's most likely aimed at kids who enjoy such a cartoony style and gags/light-hearted humor. Not saying this to change your opinion of the manga but it's not going to change just because you don't like it the way it is. If you don't like it, just stick to the games. FadedSparkle 18 Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) What bothers me about the Kingdom Hearts manga is probably the fact that it's so inconsistent with major events in the games. For example Demyx doesn't fade for good in Hollow Bastion instead getting used to try making Kairi look like a better character in The World that Never Was by having her convince him to let her go since they place him as her guard while she's captured at the castle. And then when he begs her to go back to her cell so he doesn't get in trouble she hits him. That doesn't make Kairi look like a better character at all. It actually makes me hate her more than I do in the games where she's nothing but a plot device and poor love interest Sora only remembers he cares about when the plot demands he remember she exists at all. The rest of the time he can't say Riku's name loud enough or enough times. And the series wants to keep insisting they're not gay for each other.
