Do You Think They Should Make New KH Original Characters for Disney Worlds?

Recommended Posts

Many of the Disney worlds used so far have used up the source material, are about to use it up, or just don't have interesting/usable plots in their sequels. In every KH game the Disney stories were tweaked to include Heartless, Unversed, Nobodies, Org XIII, Final Fantasy characters, etc so it's not like Disney is opposed to the KH team altering Disney stories.

I think they should start creating new KH original characters that belong to specific Disney worlds in order to extend the story of those worlds. These characters would look like they are apart of the World they're in and in some cases the true Disney characters would already know of them or have some sort of connection to them. This would give the opportunity for new villains and heroes of particular worlds. They don't need to do it for every world but worlds like the ones the 7 Princesses of Heart are from and ones that have frequently been used (Neverland, Halloween Town, Olympus Coliseum etc) could use new characters specifically made for them to keep things interesting. They could maybe even throw in some new characters for worlds we haven't been to yet so we that we won't know the outcome of that world's story. I don't know if Disney would allow that but it should be fine so long as the old Disney characters aren't completely overshadowed.

If there is a new character in a world that is important to the main story it wouldn't immediately obvious since a lot the worlds would have new characters that aren't important to the overall story. I think doing this would be a great opportunity to keep the Disney worlds from feeling like filler and seeing as the worlds need to be more populated anyway it would go well with that.

Do you guys think they should do that? What specific worlds do you think need it most? Are there any unusable Disney works that you think could become usable if the KH team put in new characters?

We wouldn't need new characters to make the worlds feel important if the writers would actually take the time to make the characters already existing in the worlds to be important. Frankly, I would be offended and annoyed just as a fan that they aren't using the bevy of material and fantastic characters already available to them, and just making up OCs that they think are somehow better.

Moreover, they are not morally obligated just to recreate movie plots verbatim. It's fully possible to create original plots within the worlds using what they already have.

Pretty much this but to a lesser extent, because the KH series has done that and most of the time, when they do, it works splendidly. Beast's Castle, for instance, is basically a completely original story having to do with the Organization that still ties in with Beauty and the Beast. Most of the second visits to worlds in KHII are all original stories in some shape or form.

But I agree, we shouldn't need original characters to somehow make the Disney worlds more important. The characters themselves should do that just fine and I think, barring some major exceptions, (Looking at you, Atlantica) they've been doing a pretty good job of that so far. If nothing else, even 'filler' Disney worlds are still a joy even if they're irrelevant overall in the games. Olympus Coliseum, other than in BBS, really doesn't have a ton to do with the overall plot, yet it's still fun to hang out with Hercules and Hades, even though James Woods sounds old as firetruck in the Re:Coded cutscenes.

Making new characters for the sole purpose of keeping things fresh would just make it seem like the new characters are butting in. Even Sora and co, and world-specific cameos like Cloud, Zack, and Auron in Olympus Coliseum, went along with the plot already in place. If the plot isn't substantial enough to carry itself, then new characters aren't the answer.

Besides, people complain enough about all the new characters and new keyblade wielders and whatnot. KH has hardly exhausted its supply of things to use. It just needs to use them.

Definitely not for KH3, if at all. I agree, they have worlds and potential to create stories within those worlds with the characters they have. They just haven't done so very well. I think, if they're going to add non-Disney characters to the Disney worlds, they should keep using FF characters like they do in Olympus Coliseum.

I see what you mean. Some of the past stories they've done for the worlds could of been planned out better. Though new characters wouldn't necessarily have to be in the spotlight they could just be someone who complements or drives the Disney characters actions especially in worlds that have been used already who have few characters and whose main villains have been killed off.

That is good reasoning but going forward I wonder if they can still keep things going well for the old worlds that they've done right. It really depends on the plot of KHIII if they can keep using Org XIII and existing characters as the only characters in the story without things seeming repetitive.

At the very least, new characters could give more emphasis to previous characters. For example, it might have been more fun if Hades was using some original henchmen alongside Auron as that would give more dialogue opportunities for Hades.

For new worlds, yes there is more than enough to choose from but with the old worlds they weren't originally created with such a long continuation in mind and a lot of them are likely to return. As you said, they can keep things running well with existing characters but new ones could give more things for the old KH, FF, and Disney characters to do.

People complain about a lot of things but in a game with numerous worlds being threatened, I think throwing in new characters could breathe some new life into the worlds and make us care more about saving them. Maybe as a compromise they could simply have new character involved in optional side quests outside of the main story.

I think they should just create more characters in general. How many more versions of Sora/ Roxas/ Riku could we possibly get? No more look alikes.

There is some symbolism going on with the blue eyes and stuff but yea, I hope there aren't anymore clone-ish people. At least not for the existing characters.

I guess if they try hard enough and give themselves enough time they could work magic with the existing characters. Though it's always nice to have new characters to fall in love with or at least new characters that make us love the old ones more :P.

Symbolism? As in, blue eyes = good, green eyes = suspicious, and golden/ bronze eyes = EEEEEEEEEVIL?

With the exception of Ansem the Wise, who's just weird. Suspicious and weird. Seriousy, I think him and Yen Sid have been witholding info on purpose.

Yen Sid's beady eyes are just as suspicious. I'm just waiting for the dude to fully reveal himself as Xehanort's brother or something.

*SPOILERS!*

We all know that Yen Sid has the Tome of Prophecy hidden in his beard. Why do you think he strokes it so much?? Gotta make sure it's still there!

I really don't see any new original characters making it into Kingdom Hearts III, and I think it's not necessary at this point since this will be the end of the Xehanort Saga. If they're going to make an original character, they could make it a secret boss foreshadowing the villain of the next saga, at least that's what I think.  In any case, if any new characters are created, they'll probably be shown in the next saga.

Fair enough. Yes, it's very likely they'll foreshadow the next saga that way.
