What is the Least Well Known Game You LOVE?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure everyone's played some game they felt didn't get the attention it deserved. Note that this doesn't have to be a completely unknown game, just one that you feel didn't get enough eyeballs on it.

For me, it has to be Little King's Story

This game sold tragically poorly and made the developers go out of business. It's an amazing combination of Harvest Moon, Pikmin, and maybe a dash of Dark Souls? But it's SO much better than the sum of its parts. The game is also hilarious, the world of dense with secrets and danger. It's such a great little Wii exclusive

and none of you bought it

Epic Mickey. Granted, it did get some press, but I don't feel that the average person loves it quite as much as I do. Yes, the gameplay has some hiccups, but the art design is absolutely astounding:, presenting a bizarrely twisted version of Disneyland that makes you simultaneously want to gape in horror and indulge in how good it all looks. Also, though the story line itself doesn't make it clear that Oswald is a lunatic, the art design and structure of the game kind of makes that clear: he's built an entire mountain of Mickey merchandise, and he's done nothing for nearly fifty years except brood about how much he hates you. That's a very powerful theme to put across, especially in regards to one of the most beloved pop culture icons out there. Not to mention that the game makes reference of all of the old Mickey cartoons, which I also happen to love, and spotting the references to them in game always brought a smile to my face.

Terranigma. It's an oldie, granted, and most people can't even play it without... certain means. Seiken Densetsu 3 is in the same boat since it was never localized anywhere, which is a shame because it's significantly less frustrating to play than its localized predecessor, Secret of Mana. They're both games I love but aren't terribly well-known to my knowledge. The ones who have played it generally put them on a level matching classics like Chrono Trigger or Earthbound.

TOMBA! (or TOMBI! in PAL regions) for the PS1. Its my favorite PS1 game and one of my favorite games of all time. Everything about this game is spot on, and its a wonder to me why this game isnt more well known, considering everyone I know who has played the game loved it.

Chromehounds. The most realistic giant mecha military strategy game I have played before the multiplayer servers went down. Everything on the mech is customizable, and battle-strategies were crucial to winning a match. Sure it's slow, but that just makes victory/defeat that much more powerful when you finally face an adversity.

^This.

Epic Mickey has great art, great story, great concept, this game is just an absolutely must play. Not to mention it's the only other videogame that features Yen Sid. Well.....kinda. He narrates. :D

The Tak Series! The reason why Patrick Warburton is one of my favorite voice actors. The games were hilarious (seriously, the protagonist lived in a village called Pupanunu). The concept was original and different. My favorite in the trilogy is Tak 2 sense they improved the gameplay like A LOT. But then the cartoon series came out... I wish THQ never went bankrupt... Than I would have gotten a HD collection by now. ;w;

Also JSRF... Sega , eff Sonic! Jou gots to make a sequel to that game!!

Re-Volt

Its a racing game with RC cars on the N64 and other consoles I think,where you race in all kinds of environments like a boat,a toyhouse ,a museum a supermarket,etc and because you're an RC car everything looks giant its freaking awesome.There are powerup you can pickup like Mario Kart,a lot of playable cars and you can even create your own custom tracks,its pretty cool.The controls needs some getting used to,but once you do its fun.

I'm sure everyone knows mine by now...Mother 3 of course.

It gets alot of hate from Mother 2/Earthbound fans for not being as quirky and breaking "tradition" even though the way it broke tradition in the series and as a Nintendo RPG in general is one of the many reasons i love it. The characters, the world, the story, it's all so well done, you can tell Itoi put as much as he possibly could into this to send off the series, and honestly, it still doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Maybe one day...

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. I loved that game back on the DS and it was definitely a game that a lot of people missed, its eventual sequel turned into what most know as Bravely Default. The game was far from flawless but it was certainly a hidden RPG gem in my eyes for the system. You could even travel around the map on a dragon! I dunno I thought it was cool :P
