Please watch this, it is very powerful!

If you don't like Christians please hear me out. A LOT of people have the wrong ideal about us. If you have a bad opinion of Christians and don't want to hear from me, I understand, but please watch this once. Jesus loves you.

So he loves the church and the bible and believes he can only be saved through Jesus....sounds pretty much like he's actually still totally on board with religion to me...

Religion is following rules. Christianity isn't a religion, it a relationship. Christians aren't religious. The cross is the only way to be saved... Because God died for our sins.

A relationship? How so? Also I'm pretty sure Christianity is definitely a religion. Religion has rules? Ok so does that mean Christians don't have rules they have to follow? Christians aren't religious? You're saying they don't religiously believe that a man called Jesus died for their sins? Don't they worship God just like a religion would? There really doesn't seem to be a difference between religion and Christianity.

Since you say this, I found this on a shirt on ChristianGifts:

I think I get the point, and I like it although I don't consider myself as a christian (cause I don't specifically believe in any god though I accept everything as a possibility).

At least I understood that he meant that religion is not the same thing as faith. Religion is organized and full of rules, because it's meant for controlling people, whereas faith is one individual's connection with the god and it's not bound by any rules, because only faith can save people and that makes rules lose their meaning. So in a way, faith sets people free (which of course doesn't mean you have the right to do everything).

But of course, not all christians think like this, which is a shame. Isn't christianity all about forgiveness, so why some people use it to judge others? I guess they read the bible too literally and fail to understand that it was written by humans thousands of years ago.

I feel bad for the people who've had such bad experience with Christians. I'm not religious myself- to me, agnosticism is the only religious view that makes sense- but my family is very involved in the church (my grandfather was actually a pastor for 40+ years, and he started churches all over SoCal). I've been around good, kind religious people most of my life who have been incredibly loving and understanding to me and my family; helping us pay rent when we can't afford it that month, buying us food when we don't have any, helping us mourn loved ones that have died, and so on. It's a shame that so many people never seem to experience the good side of Christianity and only experience the hate mongering side.

And in regards to the "Christianity isn't a religion" argument, it depends on how you think of religion. Wikipedia's got a good definition of religion: an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. Christianity, however you define it, would certainly fall under that definition; things like churches and clergy and deities aren't necessarily part of the equation.

Christianity is full of people, in the end. Like you I've chosen agnosticism, but my sister and her family are very devout Christians and better people for it, very much following through on the fundamental rules about kindness and helping your fellow man and such.

On the reverse end, I've had Christianity offered to me almost like a bargain. A group told me that my sister and her then unborn child were doomed to burn in Hell because she had premarital sex, but that I could still save myself if I repented quickly enough.

So at the end of the day, like most things in life, we should be looking at the person's actions, not their beliefs or anything else, to determine their character.

Well said, a few here. I've always had a hard time explaining why I'm not religious, despite of being a Christian. In the end, we're just humans who believe in God and that's it. (Of course be a civil man and not go on a killing spree.) I'm not those type who thinks I'm better because I follow a "right path." (Quoted because it's an opinion I shouldn't shove into everyone's mouth; they have every right to believe it or not.)

This^ I think that Christianity isn't a religion either. To all of the people who aren't Christians, you probably won't think this is true.
