Just need a quick opinion

It's literally been forever since I did anything pixel-art related, but I gave it a spin today:

 

 

He's a huge fan of both Dark Souls and Castlevania, so I figured why the hell not since his birthday is coming up in two days.  Thing is, I'm insecure as hell since I haven't done this in so long.  ;_;

 

For the record, this whole thing is scratch save for two things:

-The Skeletons are lifted directly from Symphony of the Night.  Considering skeleton enemies are something that both series share, it didn't really seem terribly unethical.

-The background is super scant since that's what I was most nervous about, so I simply dug up an ancient one from my HDD from a few years back and tweaked it some.

 

Sooo...some thoughts before I send it to him?  For the record, I'm posting this here since he couldn't give two shits about Kingdom Hearts.    No fear of early leakage!

How about... We find your friend and make him give a shit about Kingdom Hearts and how awesome it is?

Other than that, I have no baseline 'rubric' for me to judge this picture off of, so no help here...

I can't really give any specific advice, but I can say this is great! I do a few sprite edits when I'm bored, but I can't imagine ever doing anything like this from scratch.

I like it... it could use a little more things in the background.... but other than that it looks great!
