"This one shouldn't be a problem." Kotetsu spoke confidently.

 

Tatsumi nodded. "Yep. Here's your chance, Seelo."

 

Kotetsu and Tatsumi both ran over towards the beast, and while Tatsumi kept it distracted, Kotetsu made his way over towards the beast's chest to get a clear shot at it.

Elektra felt a bit bad for Seelo. He seemed rather sad that he couldn’t fight the Danger Beast properly. Most of it was him being held in the Danger Beast’s hands. However before they could reach to the HQ safely, another Danger Beasts attacked them from beneath. Seelo’s warning helped them avoid the initial attack from the beast, giving them a chance. Elektra found it exciting that they wouldn’t be fighting just one beast today, but two! Elektra picked up the axe from its hostler and jumped up at the beast, slamming her axe against its chest following Kotetsu’s attacks.

Kotetsu slashed at the beast's chest with his katana a few times before dropping back down to rest for a second. "Seelo, your turn!" He shouted to his comrade, wanting him to take a shot at the beast this time around. He decided to help Tatsumi in distracting it so Seelo could make his attack, and darted around beneath it, attacking its feet.

Seelo / Akame

 

Elektra's strike proved to be most effective as her axe dug deep into the Danger Beats's skin. Roaring loudly, it grew enraged and began to attack the others with more ferocity then before.

 

"Right!" Seelo cried, responding to Kotetsu's call and grasping his iron in his right hand.

 

"Mind givin' me a hand, Miss Akame?!" Seelo asked as the two sprinted towards the Earth Dragon.

 

"Yes," Akame simply answered.

 

Akame joined the others in attacking the monster's hide to provide a distraction, while Seelo jumped onto the Beast's shoulder, clinging onto its skin with his free hand.

 

"Okay, lil' lady, I think I can handle things from here!" Seelo said as he began to bash his iron onto the monster's head and shoulder areas.

Elektra followed their lead, going on to distract the beast to give Seelo a chance to jump on it for most damage. Once he did, Elektra turned from her position, raising her arms into the air as she began to cheer. "Woot! Good going Seelo! You can do it!" She cheered around, waving her axe around. However the Beast's constant attacks brought her back to pay attention, and she returned to her attacks on the beast. "(If only his weapon had a sharp edge though! He could've slit the beasts' throat or something!)" Elektra thought as she attacked at the tail of the beast.

"Nice move, Seelo!" Tatsumi joined Elektra in cheering on Seelo.

 

"That should take care of it." Kotetsu spoke more quietly than the other two, but he was also clearly happy that their partner had managed to make up for his failed attacks from before. He continued slashing at the beast's legs, although it was clear that he wasn't getting anything done with these attacks. It was up to Seelo now.

Seelo / Akame

 

The beast roared in pain and anger, slashing its claws around any place it could in a blind rage. Seelo struggled to hang on and continue his onslaught.

 

"Seelo, the crack Elektra made is our only chance!" Akame said.

 

"Understood, ma'am!" Seelo said, driving his iron straight into the cracks. The Danger Beast continued to rampage, with Seelo holding on to dear life by gripping the handle of the iron and by shifting his weight to the bottoms of his legs, seemingly sticking to the Earth Dragon like glue.

 

"I think it's big enough now! Your move, Miss Akame!" Seelo called, finally unsticking himself from the Beast. As Akame jumped into the air, Seelo let her use his shoulder as a boost to jump off of before landing back on ground level, managing to land not on his face, but on one knee, using his iron to help balance himself.

 

Akame slashed through the Earth Dragon's hide with Murasame, the blade's steel making contact with the insides of its body, allowing the poison to truly sink in. As Akame regrouped with the others, the violent beast finally began to waver and then fell to its death with a mighty thud.

 

"Whew... that was... that sure was somethin'..." Seelo said, clearly shaken up by the end.

 

"It was. But you all did well," Akame said to not only Seelo, but Elektra and Kotetsu as well.

Elektra watched the beast fall down, the life gone from it as it shook the ground with its weight. It was exciting to experience. Two beasts in the same day? That was a new record for Elektra. It was the first time she had seen creatures so big in her life! It only made her even more excited to think of what could possibly happen next, or what they could possibly encounter next. She smiled at Akame’s compliment, getting her axe on the holster on her back. Compliments, even as small, were always nice. “Thank you, miss Akame!” Elektra said, finally deciding to go with a name instead of a nickname. She turned to Seelo, giving him thumbs up. “Maybe you’re a pretty good against danger beasts after all, mister Seelo!”

"Thank you, Akame." Kotetsu thanked the girl, then looked at Seelo. "You did well, Seelo. If you hadn't warned us about that one, we could be in a lot of trouble right now. Good job handling the second Danger Beast." He complimented his ally.

 

"Yeah, you handled that well, Seelo!" Tatsumi joined in, smiling. "I agree with Akame, all three of you did well with the mission today." He gave them a thumbs up.

Seelo / Akame

 

"Thanks... I gotta admit though, if it wasn't for me, this whole thing would have gone a lot smoother..." Seelo said, rubbing his beck in embarrassment. "But hey, at least we all got out alright. Heck, I barely even felt anything from that scrap. I feel great!" Seelo said, popping up from the ground, although still noticeably damaged.

 

"Yep, it'll take more than some ol' Danger Beast to-"

 

Seelo was interrupted by Akame, who immediatley went over to him and stripped off his shirt.

 

"GAAH!" The young farmboy cried, covering up his cut physique with his arms. "What're you doing, Miss Akame?!" 

 

"Oh... well..." Akame then started to blush. "I was just making sure you weren't fatally wounded.

 

"W-wait... really?" Seelo said, also blushing. 

 

"Yes. I've seen a lot of comrades fall because they were too proud to admit that they were wounded badly. I didn't want the same to happen for you," Akame said.

 

"G-gee... that's mighty nice of you, Miss Akame," Seelo said, now feeling a true sense of camaraderie between himself and his Night Raid superior. "... But, um, can I have my shirt back now?" He asked.

 

"Oh. Right," Akame said, handing Seelo back his shirt, which Seelo quickly put back on.

Maybe Akane wasn't as dead serious as she .ad herself to be after all. If anything Elektra was starting to see that not everything was as it seemed, especially with the members of this elite group of assassins. "Fatal injuries?" Elektra murmured. She knew that bad injuries could cause problems because that's just how the body worked. However the concept of toughing it out was beyond her comprehension. Injuries could happen and you had no idea where they were and if you had any. She gasped in horror; what if she had any and ended up letting the team down? "Miss Akane! Should I let you check for injuries on me too?!" Elektra asked. She looked down her own dress and around her arms and legs, only seeing a few minor cuts and bruises. But- "My back." She said plainly before trying to take off her dress. So many things to learn. So much time. She hoped.

Kotetsu was... slightly surprised by how everyone seemed to be checking themselves for injuries. He had nearly made a similar remark to the one Seelo made, but he thankfully hadn't done so before his partner could. Seeing Elektra try to ask to be checked for serious injuries didn't really help much, either. "Uh... I'm definitely fine." He said, hoping that no one would try to make him do the same thing.

 

Tatsumi watched the event with a slight smirk, though given the look on his eyes, it was clear that he was feeling sympathetic as well. Kid's lucky that Leone's not here right now... She'd just make it worse for him.

"Uh, j-just to make a suggestion, maybe we should check out Kotetsu's and Elektra's injuries when we get back to base," Seelo said.

 

"Hm. Alright. We need to hurry back anyway. It will take a while to get there with our cargo," Akame said, referencing the dead Danger Beast corpses she would be using to make supper later that day.
 

"Good thinkin'," Seelo said, hiding a sigh of relief under his breath. I really don't need to see some extra skin from them right now... he thought.

 

And so, the group hauled off their prizes and had a nice Earth Dragon stew for dinner... well, most of it was made into a stew, which Seelo remarked that it reminded him of his mother's cooking. Akame, on the other hand, tore off an entire leg for herself. More than one, actually...

 

== The Next Day ==

 

Seelo, Kotetsu, and Elekra gathered in the main HQ hall in front of their superiors. Today was the day where they would officially be inaugurated into Night Raid as official members, and to commemorate their effort, they were given the opportunity to pick out an Imperial Arms. The weapons, donated by the Imperial Arm, were laid out on a table in the center of the room.

 

"Now then, go ahead and pick out the one you want. I'm sure there will be a match for your individual talents somewhere in the mix," Najenda said after officially "graduating" the three.

 

"So wait, how come I didn't get to give the newbies an exercise or a mission or anything?" Lubbock asked Mine and Leone as said "newbies" browsed the table.

 

"You know exactly why, Moss Head. You're not dependable as a leader," Mine scoffed.

 

"What?! That's so not true!" Lubbock said in protest.

 

"Don't get so upset about it. Some people are just meant to follow and others lead, that's all..." Leone teased.

 

During this bickering, Seelo found the perfect Imperial Arms for himself: a pair of gauntlets.

 

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Seelo said, examining the gauntlets.

 

"Those are called 'Thermal Sealing: Cybelle'. They can generate heat and allow you to throw strikes encased with heat, as well as other abilities such as creating shockwaves and energy ripples," Najenda explained.

 

"Sounds mighty powerful," Seelo said, putting the gauntlets on to see how they feel. They were a perfect fit and felt as naturally as Seelo putting on his hand wraps. "Now my punches are gonna be packin' heat for real!"

The table displayed multiple Imperial Arms, each different and unique from each other that should be able to fit a wide variety of fighting styles. Elektra felt almost overwhelmed, she hadn't really had the choice to choose something in a long time, and how would she know if she made the right choice? She went around and found a hammer like Imperial Arm, but she couldn't even manage to lift it off from the table. Others either felt odd or she had absolutely no idea what they resembled in the first place and how to use them. "All of these are so weird." Elektra whimpered. That's when she noticed a particular one that didn't exactly stood out, but at the same time it did because...well it didn't look like a weapon at all. It was a necklace made out of metal, its main piece being a skull made out of metal with jewel eyes. It was pretty, yet also gave off a strange feeling from it overall. "This one's an Imperial Arm?" Elektra asked, picking it up and wrapping it around her neck, the necklace snapping together at the touch to fit like a glove. She turned to her elders. "What's this one called? What does it do?"

"This one's an Imperial Arm?" Elektra asked, picking it up and wrapping it around her neck, the necklace snapping together at the touch to fit like a glove. She turned to her elders. "What's this one called? What does it do?"

 

"That would be the Inverted Armor: Osseus," Najenda explained. "It has the shape of a necklace when unused but when activated, it covers its user in an interactive partial skeleton armor, to which the user can manipulate the bones to extend and retract, offering itself as both an offense and defense."

 

"Sounds fancy," Seelo commented.

"That's the Omniblade: Zenkai," Najenda said. "It may look like an ordinary sword but its power is extraordinary. It allows the user to turn any part of their body into a blade."

A skeleton? Outside the body? Now that was something she would definitely get used to. It was strange yet sounded extremely pleasing. It would be like moving an extra skeleton without much effort. She loved the idea. "No way that's so cool!" Elektra squealed, jumping up and down happily as she felt the necklace around her neck. It was basically locked around her neck and wouldn't come off so easily. However there was one more question. "May we activate them and see how they look like?...how do we activate them anyways too?"

Kotetsu smirked after hearing what his new Imperial Arms would do. "Yeah, this is one I could work with." He responded to Seelo. He decided to keep it as his own Imperial Arms. Hearing Elektra's question about whether or not they could give these new weapons a try made him curious about the same thing. "Yeah, it would be good for us to have a chance to try these out." He agreed. He was also curious as to how they'd activate the weapons... Just holding it wasn't having any affect on him, and Elektra's didn't seem to be activating after she wore it, either.

"You all seem satisfied with your choices, so I'll allow you be supervised while you test out your abilities. Mine, lead them into the forest, would you?" Najenda said.

 

"Understood, Boss," Mine said. "Come on, newbies, let's see if you can handle those things without killing yourselves."

 

What's that supposed to mean...? Seelo thought as he frowned to himself and followed his pink-haired superior.

 

"Good luck, kiddies! Especially you, Seelo!" Leone said, making Seelo blush a little bit.

 

== The Forest ==

 

"This should be a good spot. We won't see any Danger Beasts around here if we're lucky," Mine said, leading the three to an open field. Turning around to face them, she straightened up and spoke in a much more commanding voice.

 

"Alright maggots, listen up. You've proven yourselves to be at least decent at being assassins so far, at least as much as not get yourselves killed, but this is where things start getting difficult."

 

"So that 'exercise' you gave us was supposed to be easy, ma'am?" Seelo asked.

 

"Did I ask you to speak, farmboy?!" Mine yelled, making Seelo immediately shut up, turn pale and shake his head in denial of Mine's question.

 

"That's what I thought... now, before you go into assignments using your Imperial Arms, you obviously need to figure out how to use them. The Imperial Arms only work for people who can be compatible with it, so unless you and your weapon have a match, you'll be out of luck."

 

Mine then pointed to Kotetsu. "You! Four-Eyes! You're up first. Come up and prove that you can use your weapon!"

"Y-yes, ma'am!" Kotetsu responded, and walked over to where Mine asked him to stand. He held out Zenkai in front of him. He still wasn't entirely sure how to activate it... He remembered back when Leone activated her Imperial Arms. All she had to do was flick it... That didn't seem to be an option here. He closed his eyes. Maybe if I just picture it in action, it'll work...? In his mind, he saw the blade fuse with his arm. He opened his eyes. "Omniblade: Zenkai!" He shouted. Suddenly, the blade did exactly what he had imagined it would do. His arm now looked like the blade of the Zenkai. He was surprised by how easily it worked. The blade arm felt almost natural to him... He swung it around a couple times. It wasn't quite as easy as swinging a sword, but he could tell that this would have all sorts of uses. "It looks like it works, ma'am." He pointed out.

Elektra followed along happily and watched with her hands behind her back as Kotestu was the first to try and activate his newly acquired Imperial Arm. At first it looked like it didn’t work, when suddenly, after calling it out by its name, his arm turned into a sword. It was magic. Literally. “Eh?!” Elektra gasped, her eyes widening in amazement. She didn’t even wait for Mine to call her, she was just too excited as she ran over straight to Kotetsu to take a closer look at the sword herself. “No way! That’s so cool! Does it feel weird at all?!” Elektra asked, looking at the sword arm at all possibly angles as she walked around. She turned to Mine before jumping up and down. “Miss Mine, may I go next?! Please please please?!”

"Hold your horses, shortcake," Mine said, suddenly having Pumpkin in her hands.

 

Without another word, Mine quickly shot a few blasts from Pumpkin directly at Kotetsu, testing his reflexes with his new weapon at this disposal.

Kotetsu quickly dodged out of the way of Mine's blasts, though he barely avoided a few of them. He considered trying to block them with his new blade arm, but figured that probably wouldn't be the best choice. For all he knew, the blasts might be capable of blasting straight through steel, and he didn't want to know if that would damage his arms at all. He figured it would be best to dodge the attacks. At the same time, he moved closer to Mine, quickly closing in on her. He slipped behind her and pointed his blade at her back. "That good enough for you, ma'am?" He asked calmly.

"Nope," she simply said, turning Pumpkin around so that it's front nozzle was facing Kotetsu's face. She shot a point-blank blast of energy into his face.

 

Mine looked over her shoulder. "I don't know what you learned down in those training camps, but a) you don't announce yourself to the enemy and b) this was just supposed to be a simple defense drill.

 

She then pointed to the place Kotetsu was standing before. "Now get back in line!" She yelled.

 

"Alright, shortcake, you're next. Don't screw up like Four-Eyes," she said, now firing a set of blasts at Elektra.
